Difference Between Catholic and Baptist

Catholic vs. Baptist

People often get confused between the religious groups Catholic and Baptist. However, the two religions share a very common belief ‘“ both have faith in Jesus Christ. The differences however, lie in some of the more specific aspects practiced in each religion.

Baptists are actually a group who believe in the ‘baptism of believers’ through Jesus. They are the people that are adult believers in Christ. In this regard, they tend to reject the doctrine of infant baptism by Catholics. This is believed to be true because they postulate that only adults who are able to bear greater understanding about life and sin can actually have ‘real’ trust in Jesus. There are many other supporting grounds for this claim. For one, they claim that there is no passage in the Bible that mentions infant baptism. Secondly, baptism must involve the body’s immersion in water. Lastly, the Bible states that baptism can only be given to those who can believe. With all of these reasons, Anabaptists came into existence, especially during the early middle ages, becoming Christians who have been re-baptized again during their adult life. These people are the same as the Baptists. As their central belief, the Baptist Church focuses on its faith in Jesus Christ as the only thing that can bring salvation.

On the other hand, ‘Catholic’ is a more universal term. But to be more specific, it is one and the same with the religious group that the world knows as the Roman Catholic Church. It is undoubtedly the largest religious group ever formed since the time that Jesus ‘walked’ the planet. Its central focus is on salvation through works wherein man can also be saved, not only by faith but also by undergoing the sacraments that include infant baptism, communion and many others.

Another difference between the two groups is the scenario of life after death. Roman Catholics insist that the soul can be taken into the purgatory, other than just plainly being torn between heaven and earth. The latter is believed to be true according to the Baptists, and this excludes the purgatory. Moreover, the former believes in praying through the intercession of Mary and the Saints. Conversely, the Baptists believe in praying to Jesus Christ alone. On top of all these, there are still many other disparities in the beliefs that the two groups have. But in summary:

1. Roman Catholic is the biggest church known to exist today, compared to the smaller Baptist Church.
2. The central focus of the Baptist Church is salvation through faith in God alone, whereas the Catholics believe in the same plus the belief in the Holy sacraments as the way to salvation.
3. Catholics believe in infant baptism, while the Baptists only believe in adult baptism, or at least to someone who already knows how to believe.

  1. The current Christians are victims of what they poorly understand. The differences we have now originated as a result of a disagreement. Since that time, the disagreeing parties made significant efforts to craft logically polished concepts that would at least prove wrong the other. The framing of concepts did not consider whether the opponent was right, but that the world must see that the other is wrong . Biblical statements would be interpreted with extreme care and applying philosophical principals and logic to maintain the flow of an idea which of course must be contradictory to the interpretation provided by the opponent. Even when the opponent was right in some aspects, the other would not soften because they hated each other. In some instances where the logic failed to flow, some of them even blamed the very bible they were using. History quotes the book of James being referred to as the “epistle of straws” because it seemed to have contradicted a flowing concept of faith alone. Now this is th foundation of the thousands Christian groups that we currently have. How sure are you that the logic you are under, was crafted based on God’s intention or the Jesus? We have continued to point fingers against our neighbors because of inherited crafted logics whose bases are only best known to the crafters. In fact basing on biblical principles all these Christian groups have failed. Satan has won through the “divide and rule philosophy”. Currently each group hate the other, judging in their hearts as individuals or even sometimes confrontational that the other has been denied salvation or will go to hell. Each group has become a “god” to judge the other simply because they think, their logic is the most correct one and the other is totally evil. Is this not contrary to the very Christian teachings that we think we follow? We spend a lot of time arguing over nothing. Imagine the logic of faith and work. one would say “man is saved by faith alone” but while preaching he cautions believers to love their neighbor–help th poor, why? what happens to faith alone if I don’t help the needy? All groups as you know physically do these “works” but there is a twist of logic which to me is nothing. God actually will not reward the logic of reasoning but what you have done. It is simple, in every game there are rules, so it is in Christianity. Once you are a believer, Jesus will ask you to abide by his rules. There is no freedom my friend, his rules are even the toughest to follow: love your enemy, help the helpless, feed the hungry etc. all grouped as love. Now even if you have faith that can move mountains, or cast demons into the sea, failure to do these “works”, you are out of the game–red card!, NO SALVATION! You probably repent and start over again but must follow the rule of the game. On the other hand your love is considered ordinary (equivalent to pagan love) if you do not believe in God, Jesus and the Holy spirit, again NO surety of SALVATION! Now what is this argument about? it is nothing! it is the same thing but somebody applied logic at the start which has now trapped you. If the founder of your group was to come back to life, he might actually shock you with a confession of his dubious intention, contrary to what you think. My appeal is that do what you can to love God but never even think of pointing fingers at the other, because as of now only God can tell who is meant for heaven or not.
    Thank you!

    • There are no “Rules or Works for Salvation”! My Bible teaches me SALVATION is a gift. Men go to Hell, not because of their inability to come to Christ, but because they will not come to Christ. Salvation is when a person realizes he is a sinner and Christ is the savior and by faith he turns to christ for salvation. If salvation were by works of any kind, then somewhere the Scripture would have to tell us exactly how much one must work in order to be saved. Would Sunday morning and Sunday night church services be enough, or must one go to every service, including Wednesday nights? And must one also tithe his income and give to the poor? Exactly how much work is required before a man can go to Heaven? Romans 11:6 says, “And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.” No, God doesn’t count our good works for savation. While He was hanging on the cross He uttered seven things. The sixth utterance was “It is finished” (John 19:30). And, dear friend, you can count on it: it was finished. There is nothing else to do but to accept Jesus Christ by faith, to trust Him, to depend on Him. Faith and repentance are the same; they are not two separate decisions. One cannot trust Christ as Savior without repenting or changing his mind. The very fact that he trusts Christ for salvation shows that he has changed his mind regarding sin, salvation, and God. “Every man who goes to Heaven goes on a free pass, but he who goes to Hell pays his own way.”
      Thank You!
      Eric

      • The bible does tell us, in the 10 commandments, what those works and acts are – does it not? I know many people who claim to have faith – but do very malicious things, on purpose – to friends, family and others. They are bigots, judge people, and think they are better than others. Surely – Jesus and God on judgement day – would not pass over a person for doing as good as they can all their life, and has faith and accepted Jesus – would not be passed over for someone who merely believes they have faith – which that is defined differently for different people. One may think they have accepted Jesus and faith – but clearly by their devious and bad behavior, they have not. Do we really think these people would be accepted over the one that has faith – and good life practices/behavior? Like I said, the bible is clear – with the 10 commandments – what we are and are not supposed to engage in.

        • But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of GOD, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. Galatians 3:11. If we were judged by the laws of God instead of faith we would all go to hell. There is not one person on planet earth that can abide by all the laws of God and succeed.

        • The 10 commandments are under the law. The Mosaic law. Jesus Christ paid our way to be free of the law. If you want to live under the law, go ahead, there are over 500 of them to choose from. remember if you break one, you break all. Jesus paid our sins, the 10 commandments were given to the Israelites, who reallllllllly needed them. Once you are saved, you are not only grafted in, you are not beholden to the old law. Your law is to do what Christ tells us: Love one another as I have loved you. Obey my commandments ( not the old, but His new) and Jesus was the perfect example of obedience! So tired of everyone posting 10 commandment things..ugh. JESUS SET US FREE! Remember before He ascended we are told we will have the Great Comforter, the Holy Spirit to guide us as He was ascending to be at the right side of God. I love you Jesus, thank you so much for my gift of eternal salvation, not from works, but by faith. amen

          • Thank you Brett–right SMACK on my friend! Thank you Lord Jesus!

          • Well said Brett. To be exact, there were 613 Commandments in the Old Testament. And I think God figured that may have been too much because His people were still sinning left and right. I believe that He condensed them into 10 so it would be very possible and easier to obey. And people should have no excuse not to.
But as you said….ya break one….ya break them all. I love Him too. I pray all mankind will some day come back to Him. It makes me so sad that this generation has managed to run Him out of town so to speak. Taking Him out of our schools, our sporting events. A coach can’t even say a prayer with his team anymore. And the courts are working against Him. Wrong has become right and right has become wrong. It’s imperative that we Christians stay strong and diligent in bringing God back to our Country and to the world! God Bless and peace be with you.

          • I agree with you. Right has become wrong & wrong has become right. This is why God is doing his work. He said if you can’t praise me like y’all worship & praise these celebrities & worship these shoes clothing artists I will take every away until my people start to praise me & let my people pray again anywhere. How can you take away what God made. He’s hurting & angry. You have to have Discernment. God Bless America again.

          • As a Roman Catholic who loves God with all my heart, mind, soul and strength and teach those coming into the Church, there ARE instances of infant Baptism in Scriptures. When someone came into the Church “he and his whole household were baptized”
Also, as James said “faith without works is dead” the point being, if one really loves God, he begins working to bring others to Christ or to do whatever God asks him to do to use his “gifts” for the Kingdom.
In the marriage feast of Cana, the wedding reception had run out of wine. Mary went to Jesus on the Bride and Groom’s behalf. This was Mary’s first instance of interceding for someone. On the cross, Jesus gave her to us when He said to John (the disciple who Jesus loved who represents all of us) when Jesus said “woman behold your son, son behold your mother” whenever Mary is referred to in the Bible as “Woman” that is Mary as the new Eve. So, here, she becomes the Mother to all Christians as Eve is the mother of all created beings.
I would exhort you all to read the “Early Church Fathers” who were those taught by the Apostles. The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Catholic faith.
Also, nowhere in Scripture does it say if you don’t like your Church, it’s teachings, it’s leaders that you have the authority to start a new church. The Bible clearly says divorce is unacceptable, homosexuality is ynacceptable. Nowhere can one justify contraception or abortion. It is really hard to stand by these beliefs in this politically correct society but I stand by my Jesus and His Word. All I want to do is please Him and no one else.

          • Simply want to say that eve was NOT the 1st woman . She was the 1st woman to know God. People already existed on the earth before this. In the creation Gen 1 . God made the human race as he created other life forms. In Gen 2 (7th day or period of time)we hear about Adam & Eve who were made from pre existing elements. I.e dust of the earth.

          • 27 “As he was saying these things, a woman from the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the one who nursed you!”

28 He said, “Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and keep it.””
            ‭‭Luke‬ ‭11:27-28‬ ‭CSB‬‬

          • Amen.

          • A friend of mine said once…
‘Do not imagine that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets. I have come not to abolish but to complete them.‘
            And I believe Him…

This means that it is by deeds, and not only by believing, that someone is justified.

            That’s clear, isn’t it?

          • Luigi, deeds are how humans judge each other, we can never do enough to fulfill the law. Animal sacrifice was essential for the remission of sin until Jesus Christ became the sacrificial lamb for all.

          • Our good deeds come from our Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ… which means:
            Human kindness
Helping people to understand who he is and to understand his ways.
Helping people to understand what the Bible is saying.
Basically, Do the Lord’s works and come together as he would want us to.
Everyone that has read the Bible knows that there is always something new to learn. We are not meant to know everything, just to keep our Faith, Hope, and Love in the Lord and he will make a way.
Religion is Man Made… Faith is Christ Made

          • Very good Brett. I just want add the Bible says we must be born again. Nicodemus did not understand what he meant. Jesus used the example of the wind to describe the Holy Spirit. This first occurred on the day of Pentecost when a rushing mighty wind filled the believers with the Spirit and they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. And as Jesus is the same yesterday today and forever this still happens to true believers today as they fully believe the Gospel and go through true repentance & baptism (full immersion). I Praise the Lord every day in tongues and English for this unspeakable gift. Thank you Lord.Amen

          • Well said! Like the way you presented your belief. I am a christian and i am with you in this.

          • What’s your religion or church do you attend? Im learning more about the difference in religions and Christianity instead of just going along with what i was taught growing up baptist or in church is why I’m asking. Thank you

          • Ugh ? Really,? What decade are you living in?

          • James 2:26
            Faith without works is dead

          • Amen to your comment. Many blessings Amanda xx

          • Jesus said that he did not come to change the law he came to fulfill the law with salvation yes we should follow Jesus teachings for he said I am the light and I am the way and the only way to the father it’s through me for there is no man without sin and Jesus was our savior and we should keep the Ten Commandments as a reminder to us how we should live for they were the words of God for we have received the greatest gift in the world Our Father the Son and the Holy Spirit amen

        • AMEN to the ten commandments and keep it Holy JESUS love’s us always Amen

          • Dana. I am glad you want to know more about your church. I would tell you to read your Bible! I mean no offense but it is true. Read and compare what your denomination and local church believes and practices. I am convinced the conservative Baptist beliefs are nearest to biblical truths we have. Folks seem to confuse practice and doctrine and treat them as one. They are not. Doctrines should agree between baptist churches if they do not, back away until your learn who is right. As far as practices, all churches are free to decide how things are to be done – how often is the Lord’s Supper set, getting a pastor, etc. The most important thing is getting salvation right. When you are saved, you will know it and don’t let anyone tell you you won’t! God bless you.

        • It is interesting that the first books of the Bible referred almost exclusively about the Ten Commandments of God (not so of the second section which then focuses on Jesus ‘the Christ’; which is then prophesied to come). While we English-educated folks today tend to refer to each of the two ‘sections’ as ‘testaments’ (as referenced incorrectly by Jerom’s ‘Latin Vulgate’), the Greek (the language actually used for writing the original manuscripts), makes clear that what God truly meant for us to know, comes instead from the meaning of the word ‘covenant.’ That is, God’s Holy Words to us, not as a ‘historical compilation’ as the Catholic, English translators have routinely established, but rather, the text is to be known to us as a ‘covenant’ (that is, a legal contract) between God and man–the Words of God, and NOT a combination of God and man, as expressed by some. The ‘Old’ was God’s clear revelation to you (us) about what He viewed sin to be (versus Holiness). The ‘New’ was His revelation to you about His having changed His mind over our relationship with Him; remember that the last time God physically walked with man was when your ancestors were first created (then living in the Garden of Eden); thus this next time, He would again walk shoulder-to-shoulder with us (i.e. Christ in the ‘New’ covenant). Please refer to John, chapter-1 regarding the ‘Word’ (and this scripture does not refer to a book).

Old = We now understand what God’s definition of sin is. New = God’s plan on His decision / his means for your redemption.

Through God’s two ‘sections’ of His Inspired Words, you now know where you came from, why you live in the world today, and what you can do (via Christ’s gift which He paid for), to change your circumstances (present and future), and thus as I then observe the ‘new man’ that you have become (I observe your works for your God), and as a man of the world, I then come to want to accept that very same free gift from God! As selfish as it may seem, I then want a piece of the same pie!

Assuredly, the ‘Old’ Covenant (while it certainly reveals the past to you through ‘testaments’ having been written by real people about their real-life experiences), is relevant to you only in the sense that man needed to know where he has come from (where we stood with God from a legal perspective–and thus this section of the writtings did accomplish this).

I would suggest that no man cares to change his existing circumstances unless he can acknowledge where he was, is now, and where he might have opportunity to go–we have opportunity through the ‘works’ of just one; Jesus Christ.

The ‘Old’ makes clear, a set of Ten Commandments (a ‘standard’ set by God), that is impossible for man to achieve (you and l are flawed creatures, having come into this world in the image of the sinning Adam and Eve). The ONLY means by which we may enter heaven is through Jesus Christ; that one can understand the Ten Commandments does nothing to redeem you from your sins; not since Jesus Christ and His resurrection.

God bless you. I’ll be praying for you!

          • Russell but if you (we) love Him, then we should WANT to follow His Commandments. And by doing so, would make them relevant true? I love my siblings and adored my parents. But I also wanted to show them through my actions. But you’re absolutely right in saying that the only way to God/Heaven is through His Son. I truly hope that people will start giving serious thought as to where they want to spend eternity. And make that decision NOW. Don’t put it off because should your life end in an instant and you haven’t made your decision to choose Jesus…..it will be too late. Why is this so hard for people to understand. We make the grave mistake of getting so caught up in our lifestyle, our cars, cell phones, popularity, boyfriends/girlfriends, how we look, promiscuousness……yes I still believe in no sex before marriage. I’m quite certain I would be stoned in this day and age for that one. Their is far far too much emphasis on sex today. Of EVERY kind. Which makes any emphasis on God nearly impossible. The “anything goes” mindset is Satan driven. Not God driven. Sometimes I feel like I’m living in Sodom and Gomorrah instead of America! Wake up people. Before it’s too late. ✝️

          • Very well said, people find that they just want to do their own things and ignore the fact that the Bible is being foretold today.
            Praying for All

          • Greek was only one of the original languages used to document the New Testament. Hebrew was the language for the Old Testament.

          • God’s Peace to you Russel.
Give me a link to your Christian topical lessons.

          • Hello im learning the difference in religions and Christianity. And id like to ask you what church you attend or whats your religion. Because raised as a Baptist and attending church they believe in the 10 commamdments and I agree with what you’ve said

        • S. Kirkland,

Hello! About your thoughts … i just wanted to comment a bit because I believe the Holy Spirit has compelled me to (as no doubt He does with you too)

          1. Unfortuntely for us, we don’t get to hone in on God’s reasoning about why he chose to do things a certain way; although certainly I think there will come a time when we’ll be able to ask Him; and perhaps He’ll feel compelled to tell us, who knows. Unlike the Greek philosephers in Biblical times though, our philosephecal views today most definately need to be checked against Biblical scripture; and we follow God’s Word only don’t we?

          2. Belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, in my opinion, does indeed require a certain amount of faith (forgive me if I’ve misunderstood you but it seems that you rather wish to separate the two, but I cannot see the one without the other). True, the faith I show Jesus that I have in Him from day to day may indeed be different than the faith that I have in Him as the Son of God; I see many also, who I think legitimately belief in Jesus as the Christ / the Messiah / the Son of God and yet, I have seen them myself treat others poorly. Now while I may not ‘reason’ that this is ‘right,’ I believe that the scriptures support that a.) Salvation is given to us freely (by the grace of God whereby certainly, we do not deserve it), b.) Jesus did indeed pay the price for that salvation (nothing we have or that we can do could pay for it; and that’s why Jesus was ‘required’ to die on the cross for our sins. And that many religions (indeed many sects of the Protestant and Catholic faiths) do battle over just what is required for that salvation and in fact, I believe it is the single most difficult issue argued between Protestants and Catholics.

          3. The Jesus Himself was clear as a bell that we cannot get to the Father ‘except’ through Himself; not through man, then perhaps through Jesus but through Jesus period! Indeed, this issue was so important for Jesus to get through that He did much battle with the likes of Pharisees (the political as well as the spiritual leaders of a land of people in which 99% percent could not read or write and depended upon the priesthood to ‘tell them’ what scripture said and what it meant); the Pharisees, the Saducees, etc. Name your group … Jesus was indeed, confrontational with them; they were wrong–He was right. It ended in what He knew the result would be–death on the cross.

          4. Finally, we’re going to view bad behavior; no matter your faith, what you say you’re willing to do for God, etc. God does love you (in fact, many agree that His Love is given in a way that man cannot even understand); and further, I believe He is NOT going to yank your salvation from you (again given freely to you without anything you could do to earn it). Paul says in Romans that Salvation is either via God’s “grace” or via “works.”
He reasons that you need to lean on one or the other, but that “grace” in his reasoning, brings us to understand why we should view it as a “gift.” Now can your relationship change, can your communication change? Absolutely! But, I think the scriptures indicate that God says that His Spirit will not always strive with man (Genesis 6:3); the gift will always be yours but your circumstances with God may not.

Note too that I don’t think that the scriptures support the idea that your entry to heaven is based on whether you can turn into a sinless, holy person. You and I have been given the gift, hopefully we’ve both reached out to receive it (as a result of our belief in Jesus). But regardless that we aspire to be a “different man,” I think we’re still clothed in the same; we’re still sinners and we will always be in need of a Savior that can and will forgive our sins; we do not get to a point where we have “achieved” spiritual sucess and have now “earned” our way into heaven. What did someone write earlier … that a man entering heaven hasn’t paid a thing for it (it’s been paid for), yet a man entering hell has paid for it by his own doing (nobody else needed to pay for it–we’ve done it to ourselves).

Thank you and God Bless you!

        • Right on!

        • No bigger or lesser sin all wrong is wrong and all of us fall short of the glory of God.

      • Lk 6:46 we read, Why do you call me: Lord! Lord! and not do what I say? (We all have faith in Jesus but if we don’t do the work. What happens to our faith.) You can also refer Mt. 7:21 onwards… Jesus did not only have faith in the father but also finished the work of God the father..(jn. 17:4) Therefore, we should not say faith alone or work alone but both faith and work will bring us salvation. Amen.

        • Many suggest that the theological thoughts (the doctrine) of the Apostle Paul were / are contradictory to those of James. I will be paraphrasing here (forgive me) …

For me, Paul was ultra-clear when he suggested that one cannot get to heaven as a result of their works; No, on the contrary, ‘… faith ALONE …’ states the Apostle. James on the other hand appears to believe just the opposite; ‘… faith without works …’ writes James … this would seem like pretty bad knews for those not even capable of physical ‘works’ such as myself. Why not be more specific if there were exceptions?

While to most English readers of the Biblical manuscripts which were originally, primarily written in Hebrew, Greek, and Armenian (the native tongue of Jesus), many regard these two men to be in total conflict with one another regarding the plan of Salvation.

Now in the literal sense one can very easily see the ‘angle’ from which each man came to observe that of ‘works’ for the kingdom of God; the controversey that many would like us to hang our faith-hat on today (or lack of it).

In Paul’s case, he was simply stating that those who would like to play the ‘works’ card would some day come to find themselves sadly mistaken; that is, Scrpture has always been clear about our salvation having been paid for by that single work of Jesus Christ, the Son Of God. THAT WORK ALONE became the atonement / the price required for our redemption; We know that He did pay it / went through with it, and that because of it, God offers Salvation it to you and I FREELY (BTW a true ‘gift’ does not ultimately get taken back from the receiver; at some point in the relationship the giver may indeed be disappointed with the receiver, but this does not in itself, mean that the original ‘gift’ can be said to have been changed / altered). If so, was it really a gift in the first place? Maybe we’D regard it as some sort of rental or lease that included some condition whereby you’D need to give it back? To my knowledge none of this kind of thing is spoken about in the scriptures.

If we were required to provide God with some ‘work’, why were we given Ten Commandments by Him (written in stone), but then with regard to saving ourself from the pits of Hell, be allowed to use our own imaginations as to specific works that would be required; then, why no order of significance either? Then I wonder also, what could I possibly provide God’s Kingdom that He does not already have? Would it be the type of work I provided or the quality of it; heartfelt or grumbling while I work; what then?

James was simply arguing that the status of one’s relationship with God could clearly be revealed in one’s works. If I’m excited and really ‘into’ something, am I quiet about it? If I have just acknowledged that Christ now lives within me and now guides and directs me, is it even possible for me to keep tight-lipped about what he has done for me; and about my destination in a world in the herafter? I am going to live in a mansion (a real place) and wear crowns as a king does, but I don’t have an inkcling to explain to others how they are given that same opportunity? Not my friends nor my family?

Trusting in God is required. My belief in Jesus Christ is required. Acknowledging my sins by asking for forgiveness from Jesus Christ is required. These are issues which define my faith; all are required according to The Word of God.

Should a man (or a woman) fulfill these requirements, the Bible explains how that that person will be ‘saved’ from Hell (grace given by God although all of us certainly do not deserve such grace). The thing that was required by God did cost His Son Jesus his fleshly life (which should require our souls), and yet regardless of man’s treatment of Him, Jesus did pay our price (gifted us). And still, the cold unbelief of Jesus is as rampant today as it was then (perhaps even moreso).

The bottom line? Salvation is a gift to man, costing us belief and the asking for forgiveness. As a gift, it’s free but one is required to reach out and take it; it will not be forced upon us by God. Once accepted, I can do things that may affect my communication / my relationship with God, but I own the gift nevertheless–Personally I believe these ‘things’ will also affect my position within the kingdom (that is, the ‘crowns’ awarded me by Jesus), when we as Saints return to rule the earth with Jesus at his second coming.

The short here is that I must admit that it did take me many years of study and prayer to come to resolve these spitual issues for myself, but I thank God for his Longsuffering (his willingness to wait for me to ‘get my act together.’) I pray He allow you the same!

          • Russell, the language of Jesus was not Armenian. It was Aramaic. ✝️

          • Well said Russell!! Thank you!!

          • The language of Jesus, was Aramaic, not Armenian. just letting you know. You can Google the distinguishing details your self. Armenia is not Israel, different country. Also the Hebrew s wrote the books of scripture known as the old testament. Whe jesus lived in The land of Israel, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Galilee etcetera, the languageds commonly spoken were Hebrew, Aramaic, Greek and Latin. Jesus is a Greek version of the name of the incarnated son of God, Yashua, was his Hebrew name, which he probably was called by his parents and friends, people of that time would have used Hebrew and Greek. Peter is a latin version of the Hebrew name Kepha, both names mean rock or stone.

        • May I just point out here that Jesus did the work. He fulfilled the law, where none of us are able be causes in lives in us. That is why Jesus is the only way to God. Because only he lived without sin fulfilling God’s law. Our Faith that Jesus is the only way, that Jesus paid our debt for our sins by sacrificing himself for us, our unblemished lamb sacrifice, that Jesus rose from the dead and is alive now in his glorified body that Jesus is seated on the right side of God, that Jesus intercedes for us with God, that God sees the righteousness of Jesus when he looks upon us, that we are God’s children adopted by Him to be God’s heirs with Jesus, and that God’s children, that Jesus is our Lord , that as God’s children we will spend eternity with God — this is Faith.
We are all sinners. God saves sinners. Salvation does not mean we don’t sin anymore, it means we are forgiven. We are given the Holy Spirit to live within us to show us our sins and assist us in following the way of Christ. But, we still fail, still sin.
The Good News, the Gospel, is that Jesus fulfilled all the law. By believing and having faith we are forgiven because Jesus already paid the debt for our sin. God made it simple for us. We need only to believe, have faith.

          • Well put! Thank you. I also think certain aspects of the Catholic Church do have a need for interest by all re: abused people by high ranking officials (?).

      • What a wonderful explanation of Salvation through Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Thank you.

      • Loved your post….well said.

      • Brother, I totally agree. I just know that there are some people who don’t want ylto come to that realization.

      • Too many people are confusing the “works” (feeding the poor, helping the needed, etc) with the “works” (being circumcised, lamb sacrificial, etc). Read James verse 2 and Acts 15, also see Romans v.3 thru v5. The works of circumcision and sacrifice is no longer needed because Jesus became our sacrifice. If we believe in him we are saved. Don’t worry about how many poor you have to feed or clothe, its not about a number but rather by the heart. Feed whomever you can because you want to, because it cones from the heart. God’s kingdom can’t be purchased with money or by whole had fed more poor people enters heaven first, its measure by what you can give. See Luke 21, the poor woman who gave 2 coins, she gave more the the rich man because she gave all that she had.

      • Hi Eric, sure it i s through accepting and believing the Truth that Jesus is the son of God one is saved, but repentance requires behaving in morally righteous conduct, so works Matter. You can’t believe in Jesus and go around mistreating people men or women, Eve n if they don’t know Jesus as you do. That’s what is meant faith without works is dead. When one lives fully, abiding in the word, which means living by Jesus teaching, as written in the Bible and as you are led by the holy Spirit in obedience to the commandments of Jesus, you are living in the way he taught. Jesus, the son of God, referred to as in John gospel, as the word, who was with god from the beginning, is not a book. The word of God is the action of the father, as the scripture, the writing that is the book called The Bible, shows us, God said let there be etcetera. Salvation comes by accepting Jesus, but you also need to follow him, and that’s for the rest of your life here on Earth

      • Awesome reply

      • Matthew 25 sort of shoots the faith alone argument down. “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
It is grace that causes us to build the most hospitals in the world, to start the St. Vincent de Paul orgainzation that helps the poor and the Knights of Columbus who give millions to needy people all over the world. As info, St. Ignatius of Antioch wrote to his Churches he was Bishop over when he was being carted off to Rome to be eaten by lions. To the Smyrneans he wrote, “Where the Bishop is, there is Jesus Christ, and there is the Catholic Church” He wrote that in 107 AD and St. John the Apostle taught him.

      • I say your message was beautiful, Amen. I am a Christian, baptized believer, child of God, grafted in or adopted by the One True God, daughter of my Father God, and baptized into His Son’s church.

    • Patrick,

Your thoughtful response to the differences between Catholic and Baptist was nothing short of phenomenal.

I live in the south where I now live and where Baptists abound. What I find astounding in this day and age is the amount of arguing among the various factions of Christians in the south. As Christians are we not all under the same umbrella? It’s terribly frustrating to see so many Christians fighting against other Christians — and for what their own twist or interpretation of a verse in the bible so that they can feel superior over the other denomination?! Wow. How sad and unchristian-like is that in the name of our Lord.

Relax people and pray God forgive your egos and self-righteous attitudes.

Thank you Patrick for helping us out on this one.

      • At the end we all fall into two categories, Fans of Christ and Followers of Christ. Every day we all look for ways to make our life’s more conferrable and have more than we need. When we accept Jesus Christ as our savior is when we begin to die, because we need to carry our cross by denying our self and giving God 100% to him . Following Jesus is caring the cross. Feeding helping and loving each other and most important following our Lord Jesus christ. Fan are peoeple who claim to love God but wont feed the hungry, won’t help others in need, don’t do what God has asked to do. So are you a follower or a Fan. Time to carry our croos and Trust in Jesus with all our hearts.

        • JOnathan, reading the book “Not a Fan” by Kyle Idleman right now. A very though provoking book. Living a life of following Jesus Christ should look very different from the worlds way of living lives. Feeding the poor, trying to right certain social wrongs (though the Church, not government), and etc. all products of a changed heart. These “works” won’t get you to heaven, but these works indicate you have truly accepted Christ in your heart. What is important to you is usually made clear when you/people look at what you do with your time.

      • That you and I agree or disagree on the meaning or translation of Bible Scripture should mean nothing to either of us (personally that is). That we carefully study scripture and that we heartfully witness to one another should definatly be of highest concern; as well as our willingness to love one another enough to be willing to step up for Christ and help people understand God’s intended meaning of His Word; it is vital. Indeed, even Christ Himself spoke of a day when believers would be fighting Satan (as he would exist in the form of many who would misrepresent God’s Word).

Today I would argue that there are many and Satan would be thrilled if we would accept false prophecies (Mat 7:15, 23:13-36, 24:4, 5, 11, 23-26, 26:60, Mk 13:22) and teachers (Mt 5:19, 15:9; 1 Tim 1:7; 4:2; 6:3; 2 Tim 4:3; Title 1:11; 2 Pet 2:1). i’m not suggesting anything written here is specifically ‘false’ but I know that we live in the times that Jesus Himself spoke of / warned us about. To agree that anything and everything should be accepted because many have come claiming to know Christ (and do so because we must all get along), is perilous. Many in Christ’s time were not agreeable with even Jesus Himself and many misunderstood God’s Word. Doctrine may separate many but it is up to us to bring the truth ( of what Jesus said). It will not be easy to fight for the right thing; not even among fellow Christians.

        • I agree, there is a difference in head knowledge and heart knowledge. Our relationship with Christ should be lived out. We reflect God to the world by how we live our life. The Holy Spirit will guide us in the way to go through God’s word. We’re not to judge others. Yes, we can make discernments and act accordingly but the Lord will be and is the ultimate judge and thank you Jesus, He is!

      • And does that not sound a bit self righteous? Cast out the first stone he who has NO sin…. let the rest put their rocks back in their pockets lest they should turn on them.

Does it not occur to you that SATAN causes strife amongst the saved? Does a man or woman really need to add to it?

    • It is freedom,,,if you really have faith,,,not easy,,,but comforting,,,liberating of this world of hate,,,,faith,,,how can you honestly have faith in God if you dont show love in any sense so to speak,,,God is love,,,and truth,,,and both will set you free,,,,genuine love and truth,,,and the bible says you cant make it to God unless you come through Jesus,,,which is He in the flesh,,see,,,Jesus was our example and our savior,,,our He set a foundation,,,and showed us the way,,,you right about alot thougg,,,like ,,,why the fuss,,,thats not love at all,,,i just love Gods word and sharing it amongst people,,,AND SO,,,,,IT SAYS
      Romans 12New International Version (NIV)

      A Living Sacrifice
12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Humble Service in the Body of Christ
3 For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. 4 For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5 so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6 We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your[a] faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; 8 if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead,[b] do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

      Love in Action
9 Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.[c] Do not be conceited.

17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. 18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[d] says the Lord. 20 On the contrary:

      “If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.”[e]
21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

    • Patrick

You sound confused and ignorant. Please have several seats!

      • R j. Are you serious? Wow you sure are calling the kettle black.
You are very pompous problably view yourself as Elite. As i feel so sorry for you .
Your xomment shows you arw super judgemental . Who is the one who can judge ?
Id re evaluate your belief your a christian or follow anything like . To say i have faith oh i believe but judge like that is so absolutely terrifying . Wars so many because of religion . You can certainly. See why. Sorry i would be ashamed to introduce you in any capacity as a Christian .I will forgive you as perhaps ita your first day as a wannebe “Christian”. You should speak to someone as you need it. I hope you find peace within yourself.
        Amen .
        Praise God
        Praise Jesus
        Praise the holy ghost .

I also give thanks to the Christians on earth such as Mother Theresa as example. I know their are thousands who give so much. Not for acknowledgement but to help the wrakest poorest sickest of he earth.

    • Thankyou everyone for sharing the your thoughts… some really clear my doubts and some of us really need helps though,.. may god bless you all and pray for me too… i know i use to have lots of doubts when i don’t go church or listen to people who think they are good and tell on me or judge on me like God is everywhere if i don’t go church also i didn’t do bad things or i don’t need to go to church…. reading your sharings are great. May god bless you all. Amen

    • Thank you so much Patrick. Your words sank into me and I am greatful for your clarity. I was raised a Catholic and only by God’s calling I was just baptized yesterday in a Baptist Church. I feel a closeness to God and a thirst for his Word that I did not have before. I was saved in Florida when I visited a very good friend’s church, and came to NC to continue my relationship and closenesss with Jesus. I am very thankful that God has called me out and I am patiently waiting to see what He has in store for me. Hoping you continue sharing, May God continue to Bless You !

      • I too, was raised a Catholic. Like many people, I had questions about why we believed certain things. Things that I could NOT find in the BIBLE. I was told “that is a mystery of the Church.” Well, we got it from somewhere….I was also told I was wicked for even asking those questions.
In my 23rd year, I was taken to church by a friend. There I discovered Jesus. I was saved and I have never looked back. In my opinion, Baptists worship Christ. Catholics worship the CHURCH, the DENOMINATION. They reach things that are simply not in Scripture.

        • As a devout Catholic l think it is a disgrace that u feel the need to follow all these money hungry pastors! We believe in infant baptism and when we get older we do our communion and confirmation
I am not pointing fingers but to me it seems that these fake pastors prey on the weak and.make u pay them .look at Joel Osteen look at the Duggars. If that’s where you found Jesus l feel bad for you. He lives inside of me. And l don’t bother him with my problems. He has done enough for me. And he isthe son of God not God….

          • Taking advice from A devout Catholic is no different then hearing out a Muslim or Jehovah witness in my view. The whole Joel Osteen thing I get but calling pastors crooks for accepting tithes is a little to extreme. I’ve read plenty of great comments; here In this thread but I guess you just scrolled down and ignored everything because you refuse to listen to the word of God.

          • Elle Martins –

Jesus is God. God is ONE, but God is the Trinity: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I am not a Catholic, but I do think that Catholics believe in the Trinity of God.

        • Hi Maureen, They are not letting me comment on abuse in my family from a priest in the Catholic Church. Unbelievable!
I am glad you found some peace!
          Stella

    • All i have to say is our opinion means nothing. If we listen he speaks to us. If we love him we listen to him and do what he tells us. If we have faith we can let go and fall back he will catch us. If we give all we have because he tells us to he will always provide for us. Are we suppose to pray to saints for our needs? No we are not. The only person we pray to is GOD the father. We ask that he hear us in JESUS name. Will decisions we make get us to heaven? I think not. Following and doing what GOD tells us to do will get us to heaven. Can we be prayed out of hell? No we cannot. If we live a sinful life we dont get another chance. Now while you have breath live right. Love GOD with all your heart and soul. Bless others with your blessings. Love one another as he has loved us.

    • It doesn’t say by faith “alone”. Secondly what about the parable of the three servants . ? One burried the money the other doubled and lastly the other did so well with his works of the gifts he charged the others to give all to him. Listen we are on this huge old ship ship metaphor for catholic church. Who was built by one master builder to sail the open water of faith on one and only one destination to go to God or heaven. This ship was built over 2000 years ago and is still sailing. Sure there were over the years evil captains. Or bad stewards. Or even corrupt passengers. But still the ship never changed its course. Set by the first captain the Apostle Peter or rock or cephus from Simon. Now during this voyage that is still going on today we have passengers or deck hands that think they would do better if they had there own ship. There own church type. As long as it is on the same heading as the mother ship. So the mother ship says sure why not. Go ahead and build yourself another ship to voyage with us. ….. Now where are they going to get the materials to build there new ship. From the mother ship of course. Now they are in the middle of the sea and want a newer style ship and the only place they can get it is from the big old original ship. Now some of these newer ships are fast and can menouver better or can better read the stars or charts but in all other ships built, churches that started you will see the similarity and style of the original one who was designed by the one who is the master carpenter Christ. … Who charged Peter to feed his flock…..

      • When studying my Bible, I have found it very helpful to identify the audience that is being spoken to. This helps to discern what is being taught, to whom. Sometimes the audience is Jewish, sometimes Gentile, sometimes saved, sometimes not. All these things matter when interpreting the Bible.

    • Pat. Works are a proof your are saved it what flows out of your heart. Salvation is the gift Jesus gives you when he knocks at your door if you let him in.

    • Wow, Patrick, you hit it right on. Very well said. I’m a Catholic and have always brought up this point to people. Don’t point fingers but rather love one another and do “works” as helping the need, feeding the poor, etc.

    • So true dear. Your point proven below 91 comments Satan has won in dividing us through “religion” I believe God may not care so much about all the different religious practices if the core is belief in the one true God. Thankyou for elaborating so well!!

    • Wow. I’m sure if there was such a thing as a caring God, the first thing he would do is ban paragraphs even approaching this length. Would save us all from eternal tedium

    • Thank you very much Sir patrick. You are very sound in your doctrine. Thanks for addressing the issue of different beliefs in our christian life today.Surely, we are wasting our time pointing fingers at others. The only thing we can do rightnow is to do what God wants us to do. That’s it. Once again, thank you very much.

    • My beleive that Catholic Church originated when Roman Emperator Constantine the Great (330 ac) intervened Christians and reorganise them by incorporating pagan culture to Christianity example Semiramis and Tammuz mother and the child equal Mary and baby Jesus Constantine corrupted christian leaders with wealth and power being Constantine the great Christian leader he manipulated everything about the beleive since then Roman Venetians Black Nobelity have managed to control the Catholic Church using Christianity’s as a mascarate governing from the dark up to now with JESUITS creators of the New World order One World Religion (no Christians)
So the main difference between the two Churches is Catholics man made religion, Baptist Church Christ made Church
      (English my second language)

      • Well your story started very interesting until the last paragraph, if we are all discussing The Holy Bible? NKJV, then that book only speak of (1) church (1) faith (1) baptism.
If you believe that Jesus is THE Groom and THE church is the Bribe, then HE couldn’t be married to the 2 churches above.

    • It’s god’s fault for having non believers

    • Not all Christians are that way im worried about everyone god created us we are all his children so we are all brothers and sisters and i don’t want anyone to go to hell and i will try and do what i can to make sure they don’t go there the way i look at it is jesus was a jew so any religion that fallows Judaism is on the right path non of us are perfect we all sin that’s why jesus died on cross for us so we will have the chance to be forgiven there are even jews that believe that he’s the messiahs i think their called masonic jews don’t quote me on that being the name that’s what i think they r called also if anyone has doubts that there’s a god basic math 0 times anything is 0 so 1 times anything equals something the 1 would have to be god and with out god none of this would be possible 0 x 0 = 0. 1 × Infinity we all know what it equals

  2. That is not true about Baptist – Children and infants are baptised. No one is denied baptism. However Baptists pray only to God in Jesus name. The Trinty: father, son, and holy ghost is the core of the Baptist religion.

    • Angela

It is true about Baptist. We DO NOT baptize infants or children under 12 unless they show great understanding of the things of God and salvation.

      • There are many different types of “Baptist” churches, some completely independent from any organization and some members of “Baptist” organization. I am a member of a “Southern Baptist” church. This means our church is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention, we agree with the tenants of the Southern Baptist Convention, and support missions through the Southern Baptist Convention. The Southern Baptist Convention does not believe in salvation by baptism. Therefore, infants/babies are not baptized by the church. Our church does perform baby dedications where the parents dedicate themselves to raising the child in a Christian home, teaching them about Christ. Also, the Southern Baptist Convention does not assign a minimum age at which children can be baptized. In the Southern Baptist Church baptism is an outward sign of the salvation we have been provided through Christ. The pastor will spend time in conversations with anyone that wishes to be baptized to ensure they have a clear understanding of what it means to be saved and that they have accepted this gift so generously provided.

  3. everyone has a chance to get to heaven no matter what you believe. As long as you live your life as a good person and a loving, caring person you will be rewarded in the next life. Doesn’t matter if you think infants should be baptized or not. Catholics believe in baptism as the forgiveness of the original sin, not all sins. To get forgiveness for sins you do in the future you must ask forgiveness and you will recieve it. Baptism doesnt make one immune to sin. That’s what Catholics believe.

    • Jarred –

I feel compelled to tell you that it does matter greatly what we believe. The Bible tells us that the only way to God is through Jesus. Jesus is the only way. Nothing else leads to God. Being a “good person” certainly does not get us into heaven. None of us will ever be so good that we do not commit any sin. Sin permeates through us, it has been in the human nature since the fall of Adam and Eve. We are selfish, or angry, or desirous, all of which are sins. God and sin cannot and do not mix. That is why the punishment for sin is death – separation from God eternally. Jesus is the only one that ever lived on earth without sin. That is why he could be our sacrifice for our sins. Only his sacrifice of his life can save us from eternal separation from God. Only Jesus. I pray you understand this and recognize that there is nothing within yourself that can get you to God, it comes only through Jesus.

AND THATS WORD,,WITH THAT BEING SAID,,,I LOVE ALL OF YOU GUYS,,AND LETS NOT INDIVIDUALLY LOSE OUR WAY FOCUSING ON THE NEXT MANS FAITH OR RELIGIOUS PRACTICES,,,,ITS GOOD TO HELP A BROTHER OR SISTER,,,BUT IF YOU AINT DOING IT IN LOVE YOU JUST MAKING NOISE,,,READ THE CORINTHIANS,,,GOD IS LOVE,,,,THE DEVIL IS SNEAKY,,,TSSS,,,CATHOLIC VS BAPTIST, ,,? TRUE CHRISTIANS WORK IN HARMONY,,,THE BODY OF CHRIST,,,THE LEFT HAND CARES ABOUT THE RIGHT HAND,,,,LOVE LOVE LOVE,,,GENUINE,,,GOD KNOWS YOUR HEART,,,

    • Amen. Well said. In the end it is all about how much we love. Anything we do without love is useless. 1 Corinthians ch 13. How are we ever going to be a good example to non believers when all we do is argue among ourselves. It’s about the love. When we have love, we do because of that love. We are all so very loved. We need to act like children of God.

  5. Brilliant Patrick,
God in your heart, openess in your mind. No matter the vigor in opposing differences, someone must be wrong.

  6. I believe this is a biased account of the differences. As I see it, in the baptist faith people are to be baptized when they feel that God is working in them. It is their choice to make a big step in their faith, not anyone else’s. Some children do get baptized, some in first or second grade and others wait until they are adults. Either way, Catholics and Baptists both love Jesus and find common ground in that. Nothing should inhibit these feelings and it’s a beautiful thing to share within people of this world.

  7. Ephesians 2:8-10

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

  8. Sorry to break it to you but there is NO GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • sorry break it to you but there is GOD..

    • You’re fool john…. Because of your foolishness lucifer had blinded your mind.

    • Why do you believe there is no God?

    • You’re in for a wonderful surprise–there is a God and a heaven! Those who trust in the shed blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross will spend eternity with Him in heaven. But be warned also, there is a Satan and hell. Satan would have you believe there is no God. He plants doubts in your mind and then laughs at you. Satan’s real enemy is God, Himself, because already knows he has been defeated.

    • Hi John and thank you!
My sibling was raped by a priest in church on Easter Sunday many years ago. He never really recovered nor did my family.
The church handled this horrifically from the top down.
People just be kind to one another and just stop all of your nonsense!

    • Thank you John, Only 24percent of Americans go to church every Sunday. After reading all of these posts, I can see why.
Just be kind to one another.
Ps They probably won’t post this either!

  9. He’s right there is no God! GO JOHN!

  10. WHY CAN’T I SUBMIT A COMMENT? THERE IS NO GOD AND IT’S TRUE.

    • You can submit the the commit that there is no GOD. That’s fine. Make that sacrifice at the alter of the god known as atheism. Psalm 14:1 Only fools say in their hearts, “There is no God.”. My friend if you had only seen what my eyes have seen in the way GOD moves then you would change your mind and your heart. I bet you are a good man and I pray that GOD will move in a mighty way in your heart.

    • Why do u think there is no God?

    • Hi John, Thank you.
I submitted a comment that my older sibling was abused severely by a priest and they didn’t post it either! It caused years of problems for my brother and our entire family.
Not sure they will post this either.
People please stop the nonsense and be kind to one another!

    • Thank you John,
My sibling was severely abused by a priest many years ago. It ruined his life and caused years of turmoil and pain. People, please be kind to one another and stop your nonsense!

    • Thank you John!!!!!

    • Hi John, They aren’t posting my comments either. There is something wrong with this site! Take care, Stella

    • Thank you John,
My posts aren’t being posted either. Why? They are honest, true and pertain to the conversation. Why all the censorship? Thank you.

  11. So in reading all of the comments I have come to the understanding that, not a lot of us read our bible as much as we should, and most people are relying on what someone is telling them instead of finding the truth.

What I believe back by scripter KJV:

    1. GOD and the son and the Holy Spirit are one in the same.
    John 1:1King James Version (KJV)

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

    2. You can only have everlasting life if you believe in the son of God Jesus Christ.

    John 3:16King James Version (KJV)

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

    3. Baptism is a public display of faith like a wedding ring on your finger it is not a requirement for salvation. Notice that the eunuch of great authority believed first then he was baptized.

30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?

31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:

33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.

34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man?

35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?

37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him.

39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing.

    4. I don’t care how GOOD you are; you can’t go to heaven because of your (Do GOODER) ways; other wise there is no reason for God to deliver his son as a sacrifice for the world for us for me. We are all sinners.

    Ephesians 2:8-9King James Version (KJV)

8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

    Romans 3:9

    9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;

10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

I have so much more to say but I know, know one will read it all, I pry that the catholic churches come to a true understanding. But I fear that they all be lead astray, because of there rituals, ides and beliefs. They will believe in the anti Christ and the new world order and fall inline. Like the pig to the butcher’s.

    God forgive us all.

    • You are so wrong u can’t base ur biblical knowledge on the King James Version. That’s nuts. So let me ask u did u know Hebrew wasn’t Jesus’ real language? Do u know the name of the first bibke. How can y believe a bible that was changed by man? That is nutsGodis the father if Jesus not the same

    • Well Ron Re check your #3 which states baptism is not a requirement for salvation.
      Mark 16:15-16 reads
Jesus said unto them, go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.
Vs. 16 He that believeth AND IS Baptized shall be saved, he that believeth not shall be Damned.
I believe it was taught in grade school English that The word AND is a conjunction joining two word together.
So why are you publicizing that belief is required and baptism IS NOT required for Salvation.

  12. Baptist believe once baptized. They are not responsible for future sins. They are not accoutntable. They believe you can continue to sin. They believe they never loose salvation which is against the sceipt
    Hebrew10-26

    • Im sorry keith, i’ll show you some verses how died and He promised that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternel life. Once saved is always saved.

John 10:28 ” And I gave them eternal life, and they shall never perish…..

I John 2:1 uf we sin, we have an advocate with the Father Jesus Christ.

I John 3:9 ” Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for His seed remaineth in him and he cannot sin because he is born of God.

My body can commit sin but my soul is covered by the blood of Christ, that the sins which i committed are washed and will wash away. That is why i am saved forever.

    • Keith-
Baptists do NOT believe that baptism saves us. We do not believe that baptism gives us the “right” to continue to sin. Baptists believe that the price of sin is death and separation from God. The only way we can receive salvation is through Christ, because Jesus – who never sinned – took on the punishment for our sins. He took on my death and separation from God so I do not need to. If I accept Christ as my Savior and Lord, then my salvation is written in stone. I will continue to sin. Salvation does not mean we no longer sin. It means we are forgiven for our sins. But, when one accepts Christ as our Savior and Lord, and truly understands this gift that is given to us, we are humbled. And we have a desire to become more like Christ in our lives. Our hearts change. We become less self-centered, and more Christ-centered. But, we will continue to live in this broken world where sin permeates everything. We will still experience anger, lust, jealousy, envy, self-centeredness – all of which are sins. But we will repent and ask for forgiveness. We will trust Jesus and his promises. We will continue on with our walk, studying the Word and praying for guidance, and praising our Lord. For we know, even as sinners, God chose to save us.

  13. Who is really right? All your arguments show that some are claiming to be righteous by their believes, only God at the end will tell us who was right, these are so-called Christians who hate others and claim to be right because they don’t a common belief, may God bless and forgive you all .

    • God alresdy tells us what is right and who is right. If your salvation is based on what the scripture says, then your are right and true church because salvation is the major doctrine of the bible.

    • According to 1John 1:9 we are saved by the grace that is given by God not priest nor pastors our faith as Christians are based on faith and faith without works is dead .if you think good deeds alone can save you decieve yourself .we must be born again means recieve the person of Jesus who gave us His spirit to guide us all the way.Its serious we must be true to the scriptures because God came to our level with holy blood and offered it as the price for our redemption.we are standing on holy ground.be ye holy does not indicate that we can in our own atrength be holy but Gods power to guide us thru forgiveness which requires us to repent daily by confessing our faults no one follows Jesus as holy but get holiness and He makes us aware daily thru open communication .we are not judging anyone but His word lets us know with warnings we ought to share fir the soul saving of others.the end is sure ti us all and God will judge be true and everyman declared a liar .we must warn people of the freedom of grace nit to die in their sins but to enter into eternal life be true to God he already made a way because he knows read it 1 John 1:9

  14. Who is free from sin Catholics or Baptists? The Bible says all have sinned and come short of God’s glory. There are some Christians who claim to live without sin, may God help them in Jesus mighty name, Amen.

    • Those who believe that Jesus is the only Savior by faith and not by good works are free from sin and they shall perish. That’s what the bible says brother.

    • And one more thing brother Terence, catholic is not a christian but a pagan, idolatrous. Only christian in name just like constantine the one who started catholic.

    • Christians are fanatuvs!! how dare u call us Catholics a pagan please stop.

      • People, people, adults arguing over religions. The definition should not tell fables in the first place. Nobody hates any other religious person just because they believe in something else. Why do you have such a bad impression about Catholics? Leave them alone. This is America with freedom of religion, or have you forgotten that? Be grateful to exist.

  15. The key concept is “born in God”. Sin becomes awkward and unnatural? The devil or deceiver is revealed by the context that deceive is used

Jesus said not to marvel in anyone that the holy spirit touched, then the letters they state that the apostles marveled. Is born in God when things seem to be part of a plan far beyond what we can see and control?

To say there is no god is thinking a diverging entropic universe will eventually create an converging self order out of nearinfinte variables. What I seen in life makes fantasy, starwars and star trek boring.

I hope I am “born in God”, due to these, it will only be known if the savoir knows me when my time is up. Religion is second to love, joy and salvation, this is the trinity.

  16. I think the sooner all people understand that all those letters to the churches in the new testament writings were by the first Bishops of the Catholic Church the better off they will be. Please stop using the bible to dispute Catholicism. That’s kind of like punching your mother because you don’t think she fed you the right vegetables at the dinner table. If anyone here can prove the church established by Jesus Christ was not the Catholic Church then I would say that the entire religion of Christianity is a sham. After all Jesus only established a single Church and not many churches as the protestant world would like to believe. Jesus also stated that the gates of hell would never prevail against it (which means it could never and will never tell a lie). The only church on earth that can claim continuity all the way back to Christ is the Catholic Church. That is historical fact. If not let me be damned to eternal darkness because there wouldn’t be a single soul in heaven I would even care to meet.

    • While you have good intentions with your history lessons I simply can’t take a person serious that ignores the word of God. I pray for all Catholics I really do and hope those of you that are devout will stop helping the devil not knowingly of course.

    • The Catholic church can claim continuity back to Christ, but that isn’t true. It can claim the Magisterium is the only credible interpreter of the Word of God, but that isn’t true. It can claim Sacred Scripture of the Bible is not enough for salvation, that Sacred Tradition and the Magisterium are also required – but that isn’t true. It can claim that Mary was ever virginal all her life, that she never sinned, that she was resurrected body and soul to heaven, that she is a mediatrix to salvation between mankind and God – but that isn’t true. It can claim that salvation can only be achieved through the sacraments – but that isn’t true. It can claim that missing mass on a Sunday or holy day of obligation is a mortal sin punishable by eternal damnation if not confessed to a priest – but that isn’t true. It can claim that not taking communion when capable at mass is a mortal sin punishable by eternal damnation if not confessed to a priest – but that isn’t true. It can claim that the priest has powers beyond that of angels and can change the bread and wine into the actual body and blood of Christ – but that isn’t true. There are many other traditions in Catholicism that are not true. By now you are asking what am I using as a source to declare these traditions as untruths? I am using the Bible, the only Word of God. Catholicism acknowledges that the Bible is the Word of God. It also says that sacred Tradition (untruths mentioned above) is the Word of God. The problem here is that the Biblical Word of God and the Tradition Word of God contradict each other. How can one Word of God contradict another Word of God? Friends, the only two concepts that should guide your thinking are: 1. The Bible is the only Word of God; and 2. Jesus is the only savior.

    • Reading all the comments so far, where does it say that Jesus the son of God was a Catholic, Protestant. Hindu etc. No he wasn’t infact he was a Jew!! Doen’t matter what church you belong to as long as believe in God, & the works of his his only son Jesus did on earth.

    • Tasteandsee

Perhaps you can look forward to meeting Jesus in heaven and praising God with all the heavenly host.

  17. Everybody can have their own opinion. We just have to love them for who they are and what they do and accept them for what they believe.

  18. Love the Lord your God ❤️ with all your heart and all else will be added unto you. The Holy Spirit will guide you into all truth.
Do not try and complicate the Gospel. God Bless You

  19. Dear brothers in Christ,
Please explain Colossians 1:24 where Paul says ”… in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church…”

Doesn’t this contradict the “finished work” and “faith alone” concept?

    • Benedict, After reading the whole passage:

“Now I rejoice in what I am suffering for you, and I fill up in my flesh what is still lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of his body, which is the church.I have become its servant by the commission God gave me to present to you the word of God in its fullness— the mystery that has been kept hidden for ages and generations, but is now disclosed to the Lord’s people. To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.” (Colossians 1:24-29)

It seems like Paul is saying that he is rejoicing in his suffering because he believes that through his suffering he is doing what God commanded us, too take up his cross and follow him, and various other passages that call us to work for the Church and also saying that Christianity will not be easy. Paul is feeling like his suffering is christ-like and that he is serving that church, which God calls us to do.

Paul does not say that if he didn’t do this that he wouldn’t be saved. He would still be saved if he did not do this. Because of his faith in Jesus and belief that Jesus is God and rose from the dead. Us doing works do not save us. Only Jesus can do that. Our works outwardly show that we believe in God and if we truly believe in him, we should want to do what he calls us to in this Bible.

Paul is following Jesus through his works, but is not saved by his works.

Please ask if anything does not make sense or if you have an opposing idea.

      Peace,
      Ardyn

  20. To know the faith of early christians, please study the teachings of early church fathers.

Irenaeus (130 -202) was student of Polycarp, who in turn was disciple of apostle John. He was the first church father to identify the four canonical gospels.

He taught three pillars of orthodoxy: the scriptures, the tradition handed down from the apostles, and the apostolic
    succession.

On Marys role on salvation he states, “even though Eve had Adam for a husband, she was still a virgin… By disobeying, Eve became the cause of death for herself and for the whole human race. In the same way Mary, though she had a husband, was still a virgin, and by obeying, she became the cause of salvation for herself and for the whole human race.”

Early christian beliefs are more similar to Catholic Christian beliefs than those of the protestants.

It’s interesting to note that early church fathers also had to deal with heretics.
As promised by Jesus, the gates of hell will not prevail against the holy Catholic church.

    Praise the LORD Jesus Christ

    • I would have to disagree with the statement that early Christian beliefs are more similar to catholic Christian beliefs than those of the protestants.

In the first place most Roman Catholics don’t regard scripture as they should (final authority) and only read verses that are approved by their priests. I have been friends and family of Catholics for most of my life. The majority of them really don’t read the scriptures but would rather believe they are doing enough good works that they won’t have to suffer very long in a place called Purgatory which by the way isn’t a place at all.
Who were Jesus’ “brothers” (John 7:3)?
The sons Mary had with Joseph after she had given birth to Jesus, “her firstborn son.” (Matthew 1:25)

What were the names of Jesus’ brothers?
“James, Joses, Simon, and Judas” (Matthew 13:55).

      Did they believe in Jesus?
Acts 1:14 says that Jesus’ disciples “all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.” So Jesus’ brothers eventually became believers and one of them, James, even became a Christian leader. But that’s after Jesus’ resurrection. Here, they “did not believe in Him” (John 7:5), considered Him to be an embarrassment to the family and are taunting Him to “Depart from here and go into Judea” (John 7:3) and “show Yourself to the world.” (John 7:4)
Here these verses show plainly Mary had other children.

  21. With respect to the article, “Difference Between Catholic and Baptist,” the Catholic Church has never taught, nor will it ever teach salvation by works. It teaches salvation through the shed blood of Christ, and through this alone. I was raised Catholic and at no time did any priest, bishop, nun or any other religious person in the church ever teach salvation by works. It was taught salvation is through Jesus Christ alone.

  22. Chris
The Catholic Church has never taught nor will it ever teach salvation by works. Salvation is only through the shed blood of Christ on the cross.

  23. i believe in god but, i also believe most of this article was an opinion for example

It is undoubtedly the largest religious group ever formed since the time that Jesus ‘walked’ the planet.

“undoubtedly” where is the evidence to support that? I really think most people believe in certain things and not everything, most of this article needs a fact check.

    • Thank you to many. I choose to be Christian.
I do have hope and faith in God Jesus The holy ghost.
I have faith in a creator or God . are they the same ?
I was raised the roman catholic way as where my parents and theirs before.
I have choosen to be a Christian.
I have read about many religions. Thua coming to my beliefs
I try my best not to judge but it does happen.
Heck even Tupac Shakur a famous rapper murdered in the 90s? Has a song ” Only God Can judge Me”
Many here will see this as blasphemy thus causing more argument hate racism etc.
What is the percentage of wars created by religion ?

Its like my Dad will beat up your Dad or My dick is bigger than yours.
Thus woman in business say ” Ive got a bigger dick than you ” to ahow they have more power or something …….
But it is very difficult to have faith alone . Without real proof its hard.
That is why many leave a religion and most kids find it humorous.

So uh this dude ah parted a sea ?
He built a massive ark and animals walked to by two onto it ? Umm how many animals were in the world at that time ?
He had 40K of people and fed with a fish … Was it a megalodon?
Kids see things that way as do i .. As most know if i tell someone something that once it gets to even a 5th person the message has changed.
So with the Bible being written 100 YEARS after Christ died the stories had to have changed ?
Most couldnt read or write but 100 Years after Jesus died the Bible as we know it was written.
For 100 YEARS it was spoken to people so thata a long time back then never mind now.
The Catholic Church still cut off the testicles of choir boys so they would /could sing higher until the middle NINETEEN FIFTIES ???
They also take every priest who rapes /molests others usually kids to the Vatican to avoid prosecution and perhaps a well needed beating.
Baptists have 15 seperate inner religions( sorry cant think of the proper term) each is independant and worships as they see.
So Baptists are ? What religion ?
I believe that you van choose what parts of the bible you can “Radically Accept” and believe in or have faith in a religion and bible.
Jesus did not intend for church’s , it was the belief and message to be spread .
It was some genius who figured out lets get believers to come then will will ask for a % of income. Thats a sticky one for me.
I also believe in Mother Mary and yes pray as taught.
But mostly try to be non judgemental , kind have empathy and TRY to live my life without SIN(impossible ) we wer
From 10% to 50% … The 50 yes is the Ronny L Hubbard belief system developed by himself.
Can i make my own religion ?
Baptist beliefs and religious doctrine were formed in the middle 1500’s.

Some Baptists i know are super racists also greek orthodox catholic etc.
      Jesus died for our sins.
To be allowed to sin ? As we are made in Gods Image he is a sinner ?
Or is he above that ?
Why will the “New Jerusalem where its getting built or is already so extravagent with gold so clear to see through ? Marble to tall and thick?
Yet on earth now we are supposed to live without materialistic possessions?
But God needs this crib of wealth ?

Hmmm. Sorry to be long. I didnt realize how much more i’d like to say / ask .

Food for thought. Why do many say pre Jesus when people knew what ? But they are mocked for believing in the gods like Zeus etc. Or in sun god or rain god . is that more of a creator or God the eternal ?

Also what of ancient aliens ? Who were before the flood .. Most religions mention a catastrophic flood . Its fact they existed ? The pyramids across the world can be connected by a straight line .
Its said pre flood the world had power/electricity now believed to have been the power source was yes the Pyramids. They were different obviously than what we see today.
With a massive gold cap long looted and a outer reflective coating . With rivers flowing beneath to provide energy to power the pyramid to create electricity. Thwy have found in ancient pyramids now dated to 20,000 years ago………..
I ave far too many questions so hopefully one day i will be allowed into the kingdom of God (creator) to ask some questions .
After hopefully being answered i may stay or leave .
If you cant leave then “the lake of fire” Only God can throw me .
Faith i have but questions too. As all im sure do.
God bless all of you for believing so strongly in “your religion “…..please remember it isnt “yours”

  24. Why is drinking wine a sin? If I’m correct Jesus turned water into wine. Plus the last supper they drank wine.
Can someone tell me where in the Bible says drinking wine is a sin.
    Thanks, Christine

  25. Do Baptists believe that after Baptism you are cleansed of sins and future sins, solely because of Baptism? You are to be welcomed to Heaven due to your Baptism ? This is an honest question after reading many comments above. I have been raised Roman Catholic, my husband Baptist (although he hasn’t been overly active in the Baptist church since we attend Catholic). While we both agree faith in God and Christianity is most important, we are weighing decisions for our children. I appreciate any feedback and guidance (without criticism please).

    • Baptism is an outword declaration of someone’s faith. Basically telling the world “I choose Jesus!” And giving a person the opportunity to share their testimony of what God has done in their life. It has nothing to do with the forgiveness of sins. Jesus did that through his death and resurrection.

    • No they do not believe your question. Best friend growing up- catholic- me baptist (camps,schools- very active in youth groups & Sunday school).

For your children, obviously totally your choice but I really appreciate non-denominational churches leaning towards baptist – nondenominatial lean towards the New Testament while still taking valuable lessons & knowledge from the Old Testament

    • Baptist do NOT believe that baptism saves them from anything. Baptism is a representation of our belief in Jesus as our savior and Lord. It is represented by going under water, representing Jesus’ death & burial and then raising from the water represents Jesus’ resurrection. Baptism in the Baptist faith is a public acknowledgement of our faith. We do not believe it saves us in any way, shape, or form. Baptist know that although we are believers in Christ, we are still sinners. We do not believe that our sinning makes us lose our salvation; however, we do not have an open book to sin all we desire. We are called to confess and repent and ask for God’s forgiveness of our sins, praying to God in the name of our interceder, Jesus Christ. We believe that if we repent (turn away from) our sins, God will forgive us.

    • Hi, you sound logical. Being logical then brings faith as a belief in God reqires faith as.their is no factual evidence.Let them learb where yoy choose. As once like yourselvez become a certain age your children will choose. If a person doesnt choose of their own free will then the brain washing from whatevever interpretation one gets from the book of stories has succedded. I was raised Roman Catholic but i choose to be Christian.I studied world religions and had great interest in learning about all relugions. As if their is but one God yet under different religions i’d like to think.i wouldnt want someone to folloe a.religion that they truly believe in abd then that religion is “wrong” I hope their is no bad religion as.people truly want a saviour. Im not too big on the God thing this supreme being then i think sci fi like. I choose to believe in God . A God that i cannot fully understand the reasons for what he does as i am only human. If we put all the things we see wrong and think why doesnt God stop this needless suffering then i stray away as i think what God would allow this. So choosing i dont understand the reasonongs of a God can be the only way for me to see him condone this. As thats how i feel.Everyone feels differently as by the many comments.Under the majority you can feel the hate.Look at history how many wars have been caused and many still rage on because of a difference in someones belief in God. A different religion “thats wrong” how can any belief in God be wrong . Its the interpretation of a book of stories that we see the divides and hate. Id luke to think that all religions are somewhat correct( their books) but we all belueve in One God crazy as that seems. But thats my choice.Trying to choose one religion to me cant work. Sorry as we are all passionate and firmly believe we want “our side” or “our book” to be right. I believe let your childreb learn about God in whatever religion you choose . Once they can understand let them know you wanted them to have a beluef and understanding of God and religion but it is their choice as it has always been ti decide if in fact they are “religious with a belief in God or no its too far fetched and show me the factual evidence of an existence of God Satan Jesus Mary etc ad they may have difficulty with just faith. Good luck. Gid bless you. Your hearts are in the right place.

  26. Who wrote this article? I can’t find an author.

    • Hi.I truly enjoyed your comment. I tried to understand any logic for your words. Do you want to harm yge person ? Tell tgem your “right way” “your God” “your religion” all “yours” “your OPINION” of a non factual entity that we must believe in through faith as no proof exists . Im sure you mean well deep down yet i can feel the hate that fuels ya. Interesting.

  27. Doggone this is the worst ‘difference between baptist & catholic’ I have ever read or anything similar. There is 0% chance that someone with knowledge & understanding of both religions wrote this…..‍♂️

  28. Thank you kindly send me your phone number update and you

  29. As far as I see it. The meanest people I’ve ever met are those claiming to be church going God fearing Holly rollers. Corrupt. Law breaking. Tax evading and simply put. Mean.. and only pray for the money they have. And kick those they believe to be bellow them due to lack of money.. Your churches are both fake. If not then you’d all see that faith n belief are all basically the same..

  30. Certainly an interesting comment section. Can we please be civil, and not argue about if one religion is better than another?

  31. Hi, Why won’t you post my honest comment about severe abuse in the Catholic Church against my sibling?
    Unbelievable!
