Difference Between Jeans and Jeggings

Jeans vs. Jeggings

In fashion, there’s always a new style and a new kind of garment that comes out and becomes an instant hit with the public (typically women). The newest fashion trend today is jeggings, a combined term for jeans and leggings. Jean leggings also have the alternative name “denim leggings.”

Jeggings are essentially leggings made to look like a pair of jeans. Many people often mistake jeggings for jeans because of the garment’s look. In a nutshell, jeggings looks like a pair of jeans but feel like a pair of leggings. This slim style often echoes the silhouette of leggings as well as skinny jeans.

However, there are differences between jeans and jeggings. Since jeggings are technically leggings, the differences will compare the characteristics of leggings and jeans.

Jeggings and jeans differ in terms of materials. Jeggings are often made out of a combination of spandex and denim. In jeggings, the percentage of spandex is higher compared to the percentage of denim. Occasionally, denim is not used at all – it is then substituted with other stretchable and comfortable materials such as cotton. The material is then painted to look like a pair of jeans. Jeans, on the other hand, are mostly made out of denim, sometimes combined with other materials and fabrics. Jeans often have more denim than other materials in the mixture.

Another difference between the garments is their structure. Often, jeggings have no zipper or button to secure the garment to the wearer’s body; the stretchable materials serve this purpose instead. However, some jeggings have a faux zipper and button to imitate the “jeans” look. Conversely, a pair of jean pants must have a zipper and a button in order to cover the crotch area.

The feel of a pair of jeans and jeggings is also different. Many women love the stretchable, soft, and comfortable feeling that jeggings offer. On the other hand, jeans are much rougher, stiffer, and harder on the skin. There are also times when jeans rub some spots while being worn.

Another difference is elasticity. Jeans, especially the older versions, have no elasticity and would often have a one-size fit. Depending on the size, some jeans might have a tight fit on a person’s body. On the other hand, jeggings are considered one-size-fits-all due to the elasticity of their material. Some consider jeggings to have a tighter fit and to be more form fitting than skinny jeans, the tightest type of jeans available on the market.

Regular jeans often have a “cut” or a style at the end of the pant leg. In this style, the end of the pant leg just goes down with the cut. However, jeggings often have the characteristic of leggings that “wrap” around the ankles.

The most startling difference between the two garments is in their wearers. Most often, jeans are designed to be worn by both males and females of all ages. Jeggings, on the other hand, are only fashionable for and mostly worn by young women. The trend is yet to determine whether men are willing to wear jeggings – demand breeds supply

Another notable fact is that jeggings are a hybrid of two garments (jeans and leggings), while jeans are a garment and style in and of themselves.

Summary:

1.Jeans and jeggings differ in many aspects including feel, fit, structure, and material. The main difference between the two is that jeggings are a hybrid of jeans and leggings, while jeans are considered a garment of its own.
2.Jeggings also offer a more comfortable yet form-hugging fit compared to jeans, which only offer a select range of sizes.
3.Jeans have real and functional zippers and pant buttons, while jeggings don’t have a use for the aforementioned things. Some jeggings do have a faux zipper for a realistic look.
4.Jeggings are more stretchable compared to jeans due to the mixture in the material. Jeggings have more spandex than denim, while the opposite is true for jeans.

  1. More blatant anti-male propaganda on how menswear should be very restrictive while females access to historical menswear should never be ! Sexism by Marxism ! Males historical worn tights, leggings , leather pants, slender riding pants and tall riding/ military boots not females. The last fifty years the complete opposite is true . Give males back their menswear choices that only now , Jane-ny come lately they have enjoyed since they conquered the transvestite barrier against females.

  2. Pathetic militant with your isms.
