Difference Between Psychic and Medium

psychic-and-mediumPsychic vs Medium

Most people think that a psychic is also a medium or vice versa. However, these two terms are totally different from one another. If you want to get the services of a psychic or a medium, you have to know their different capabilities in order to get accurate insights into the spiritual world.

First of all, a medium has psychic abilities but not all psychics are capable of becoming mediums. A medium can directly communicate with the spirits in the afterlife. This special ability can not be performed by a psychic. A medium serves as a channel between the world of the living and the afterlife which is beyond the abilities of a psychic.

On the other hand, a psychic can foretell the future by using several spiritual channels. For example, a psychic can provide insights for you concerning relationships, career, money, or love. A medium can not foresee these things or future events. Some medium cannot read tarots or harness the power of other spiritual channels like crystal balls, runes, or cards.

A medium reads the messages of the spirits in the afterlife. This means the reader will just transmit to the sitter the messages or signals from the spiritual world. In contrast, a psychic reads your aura and the presence that could influence your future. This means that a psychic directly interacts with the sitter and will not be able to contact the spirits at all.

In most cases, a psychic can commercialize his or her abilities. This is rarely seen among mediums because they can lose their ability to communicate with the spirits if they commercialize their services.

A psychic and a medium are different from each other. Just remember that a psychic reads your aura to foretell your future while a medium reads the messages of the spirits.

  3. I would just like to point out it is inaccurate to say a psychic can tell your future because of your aura. Your aura is your energy field and has nothing to do with your future. Also a psychic is giving you the information given to them, it does not dictate your future as you have free will to change it.

  4. What’s the problem ? Why do some mediums become so incensed when called a psychic ? Its just semantics.
A psychic is a person who claims to use extrasensory perception (ESP) to identify information hidden from the normal senses. The word “psychic” is also used as an adjective to describe individual Psi abilities.
“Mental mediumship” is defined as spirit communications through telepathy.
“Trance mediumship” is often seen as a form of mental mediumship.
“Physical mediumship” is defined as manipulation of energies and energy systems by spirits.
The term Psychic is also an adjective:
    1. of or relating to the human soul or mind; mental (opposed to physical ).
    2. Psychology. pertaining to or noting mental phenomena.
    3. outside of natural or scientific knowledge; spiritual.
    4. of or relating to some apparently nonphysical force or agency:
    psychic research; psychic phenomena.
    5. sensitive to influences or forces of a nonphysical or supernatural nature. noun
    6. a person who is allegedly sensitive to psychic influences or forces; medium.
To the general public, the difference between psychics and mediums is irrelevant. it’s all Psi !difference a
A rose is a rose by any other name….. Just be glad people are open to believe.

  6. Hi you say that mediums have psychic ability so there for does that not mean they can do everything a psychic can as well as converse with spirit directly

    • Piers,
We all have some degree of psychic ability , but not all psychics have the same type of ability.
Not only are there different types of psychics, Psi presents in various levels of ability, and sometimes in various combinations.
Anyone professing to have high levels of all the capabilities, or predict the future is most likely a fraud.
Please refer to my comment above ( from February 2015) for the different Psi manifestations.
