Modern vs Contemporary Dance

Dancing is indeed one of the most famous recreations that people like. There are different types of dancing that certain people enjoy. Dance is not only a sort of exercise but also a great releasing of stress to some people. Truly, dancing has been in this world for many years now; it is a form of calling out to gods in the ancient times, on which right now are still parts of the different rituals by some cultures. Dancing is a natural call to us humans, because we have this urge to move our body and dance with the beat even though we are not performing.

Thus, many people already know the different types of formal dances from informal ones. They basically know that when you are in your uniform and some sort of tippy toes, you will be dancing with a slow beat, but if you are in your cramped jeans and shirt, you will dance hardcore with a serious fast beat. Although this might be a difference that can tell both apart, on the informal category, many people still do not get the difference between contemporary and modern dance. Both seems to be just alike and the same.

What really is Modern Dance?

Modern dance is basically one of the hardest genres in dancing. This is simply because you get to move with the beat. It is not necessarily a dance that goes with a hard beat nor a slow beat per se; it basically does not have to do with anything, yet it can be everything. In modern dancing, you get to play with the beat. Sing the beat through your body. Therefore, it means that you can dance however you want to dance to the beat. There are no necessary techniques to look out for, you just primarily, DANCE.

Modern encourages the choreographer’s possible interpretation of the song. It is an art made through the body. Indeed, many people find modern dance sort of their freedom to let go of everything that is burdening them. It is a great way to release and be you.

What is Contemporary then?
