Difference Between Tummy Tuck and Liposuction

Tummy Tuck vs Liposuction

Sad as it may seem, voluptuous beauty is rarely appreciated in today’s generation. Women who are of the sizes 10 and 12 or larger are oftentimes called, often in a mean way, “chubby”, “fat” or worse, “obese”. In this day and age, skinny is what’s accepted, so most of the time, women who can afford surgery resort to either having a tummy tuck or a liposuction job.

The difference between these two jobs is that a tummy tuck, medically known as abdominoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that is done to make one’s abdomen more firm without removing necessary fat, while a liposuction is a cosmetic surgery operation that involves removing fat from different parts of one’s body: abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and even the neck. Ultimately, these two body jobs exist to sculpt one’s body into either a skinnier one or a firmer one.

Pros and Cons

Once you go through either of these procedures, you may be called “slim”, “fit” or even, “skinny”. With proper care and discipline, you will be able to keep your figure, but if you don’t take care of yourself, you will probably just go back to your old state. So before going through such a procedure, you should consider all your options. Weigh the pros and cons of the situation.

Tummy tucks are usually considered safe procedures but it actually depends on the person’s discipline: whether or not he or she will take good care of his or her body. Complications like blood clots, thrombosis, cardiac and pulmonary complications usually arise when proper care of the body is neglected. Moreover, the risks of tummy tucks include bleeding, skin loss, asymmetry, persisting pain, keloids, and even death.

On the other hand, liposuction has a lot of side effects. After the operation, you will experience bruising, swelling, scars, pain, numbness, post-operative weight gain, and very limited mobility. The possible complications include infections, damages to the skin, puncture of internal organs, contour irregularities, burns, and fluid imbalance. The list of cons for liposuction go on and on; but these are the worst case scenarios.

Safety Precautions

Everybody knows that “health is wealth” – that is universally known and accepted. Before putting yourself in deep water, make sure that you know how to swim – before you risk yourself in something you aren’t sure about, make sure you know what to do when something unexpected happens. Tummy tucks and liposuctions are big deals mainly because of the amount of money they will cost you. But ultimately, they will have bigger side effects in the long run.

If you aren’t sure about doing it, it’s okay. A lot of advocates cater to people’s issues about loving their bodies as it is. After all, in order for people to appreciate yourself, you must start by appreciating yourself. But if you believe it is right for you to go through these procedures, then go – but make sure that you are well-versed in the possibilities that are likely to happen and when the complications arise, secure a back-up plan.
