The world over, militant and terrorist activities are on a rise. A serious concern, al the nations are finding it hard to address the two problems that were shattering order and peace. The two terms are used interchangeably and it is that both the terms are used for any violence uprising the world over. Most of the time a terrorist activity is termed as a militant one and vice versa. However, there are some differences if one looks at the terms very carefully.

When looking at the dictionary, terrorist is described as someone who makes use of terror for achieving his goals. A terrorist is a person who will go to any level of creating violence for achieving what he desires. When looking for the meaning of militant in the dictionary, one can see that a militant is also a strong determined person like a terrorist.  A militant need not use violence to reach his goal. And if situation demands, a militant will not hesitate to violence. A militant usually exercises a lot of pressure on others to achieve his goals.

Both the terrorist and militant are persons who indulge in unlawful activities. A terrorist always creates violent situations to create fear in people or to foil a government. The terrorists have no regard for humans and they unleash terror activities in different regions of the world. The terrorists think themselves as saviors rather than destructors. On the contrary, a militant is a person who believes in armed aggression for a nation’s liberation.

When the terrorist indulges more in real violence, the militant uses more of verbal violence. The militants are considered to be leaders who aid terrorists. Some militants have even become icons.
