Electric Water Heater vs. Gas Water Heater

The two types of water heaters that are commonly used are gas or electric ones. The choice depends on the price and also the availability of natural gas. The choice also depends upon the usage of hot water in a household. It could be used for cooking, bathing or and room heating. Though electric water heaters are prominently used, a gas water heater is cost’“effective than the other one. Gas heaters heat a tank full of water much faster then electric water heaters. Solar water heaters are also preferred by a section of people.

Let’s look at the features of both these heaters. The electric water heater uses household electricity whereas the gas water heater uses natural gas that is pumped into the household. Apart from the initial installation cost, the maintenance cost is fairly low for both electric and gas water heaters.

Care should be taken to ensure that only authorized and experienced technicians or plumbers perform the installation. Before the installation, the technicians must check the connection in the building. The T&PR valve and relief tubes should be connected properly to ensure safety of the heater in times of temperature control functions going wrong.

The gas water heater has a pilot light while the electric one doesn’t have the same. A gas water heater turns the water hot by burning the gas in a covered burner which is provided at the base of the heater. The heater exhausts the produced heat into the dwelling space.
In spite of all these features, the choice of the heater still depends on individual preferences. There are people who don’t like open flame in their heater. Another point to be noted is that any problems with the power supply may directly impact the supply of hot water. There are electric heaters that turn off when the load is high.

The temperature of the place where the heater is positioned is also a key factor to be considered. If the surrounding atmosphere is colder, then the heater will take more time to match up to it, thus resulting in extra cost.
However, there are certain other factors that the aspiring buyers need to consider, such as the availability of the energy type, family size, and of course the cost. Also, the instructions provided by the makers would also help in deciding on the type of heater.
