Difference Between Shampoo and Conditioner

shampooShampoo vs Conditioner

Your hair is your crowning glory. But having great hair goes beyond having a great, complementing hair cut. Taking good care of your hair is just as essential. Making sure that your hair is clean and healthy is the first step. For this reason, people would often invest a lot in shampoos and conditioners. Quite often, these two go hand in hand that one may tend to wonder if there is even a difference between the two.

Actually, there are a lot of difference between shampoos and conditioners. For starters, they differ in their purpose. Shampoos are hair care products that are used to remove oil, dust, dirt, pollutants, and dead skin cells that build up on the strands of your hair throughout the day without stripping too much oil that it damages the hair strands. On the other hand, conditioners are hair care products that are used to soften the texture of the hair strands, making them softer and a lot easier to comb and style after washing.

Because of the difference in their purpose, the components that are used to manufacture shampoos and conditioners are also different. Shampoos contain components that are very much similar to those that are found in soaps. The difference between the two is that the components in shampoos are a lot gentler so that the sebum protecting the hair strands are not completely washed off, which may cause the hair to become brittle. Conditioners are comprised of moisturizers to help make the hair more manageable. It also contains proteins to help strengthen the hair strands and glossers to give that natural shine to your hair.

Another difference between shampoos and conditioners is their pH balance. While both shampoos and conditioners are both acidic, conditioners are more acidic when compared to shampoos. That is because the high acidic pH balance found in conditioners help promote the development of amino acids and to help keratin to bond onto the hair strands, making them appear a lot healthier, shinier and full of body.

Shampoos and conditioners are now manufactured to contain vitamins and other nutrients. However, even the vitamins that are contained in shampoos and conditioners are different. The vitamins and nutrients that are found in shampoos are often formulated to target the roots of the hair and the scalp. On the other hand, the vitamins that are incorporated into conditioners target the hair strands to strengthen it and prevent it from becoming brittle and prone to split ends and breakage.

Finally, there is the difference on the way that shampoos and conditioners are used. All shampoos are used to be rinsed after being applied onto the hair. Conditioners can be used in two ways. The first is that it is applied on the hair and allowed to stay for a few minutes before it is rinsed off. The other way is to leave it on the hair strands right after it is applied.

Summary:
1.Shampoos are used to clean the hair strands and scalp. Conditioners are used to make the hair strands softer and more manageable.
2.Shampoos contain components that are found in soaps, and are slightly acidic. Conditioners contain moisturizers and glossers, and are more acidic than shampoos.
3.All shampoos are rinsed after being applied. Conditioners are manufactured to be rinsed or left on.

Sharing is caring!
