Difference Between Teaspoon and Tablespoon.

Teaspoon vs Tablespoon.

The differences between a teaspoon and a tablespoon are not very hard to understand and remember. A tablespoon is a bigger spoon than a teaspoon. In every cutlery set or flatware, there are forks and knives, bigger spoons and smaller spoons. The bigger ones are called tablespoons while the smaller ones are called teaspoons.

This is the description of a standard cutlery set. We are not describing a set where there are fish knives or dessert spoons because dessert spoons are smaller than the tablespoons and larger than teaspoons.
Teaspoons
Teaspoons are part of a cutlery set used in stirring or in sipping or adding sugar to tea or coffee. It is always denoted as “tsp.”
Teaspoons are used in measuring volume while cooking, and they are also used as a measure of volume for medicine prescriptions. The volume of a teaspoon varies according to countries. For example, 1 teaspoon is equal to 1/6 ounces, 1 teaspoon is equal to 1/48 of a cup, and 1 teaspoon is equal to 1/768 of a gallon in the US. In the US, the teaspoon is supposed to hold 5 milliliters by federal rules.

Special spoons should be used to measure medicines because common types of teaspoons can hold 2.5 to 6 milliliters of liquid. For dry measurements, two different measurements are used; heaped or leveled teaspoonfuls.
Teaspoons are of many types:

Dessert spoons (slightly larger than a teaspoon).
Bar spoons (same as a teaspoon).
Coffee spoons (they are smaller than the teaspoon).
Orange spoon or grapefruit spoon.
Iced tea spoons (they have long handles and are used in eating ice cream).

Tablespoons
They are a part of a cutlery set used in serving food. Sometimes they are used in the preparation of food too. It is denoted as “Tbsp.”
Tablespoons are also used for measuring volume for cooking recipes. 1 tablespoon is equal to 1/2 ounces. In Australia, 1 tablespoon is equal to 4 teaspoons or 20 milliliters. In the United Kingdom, the tablespoons of the Victorian as well as the Edwardian era were 25 milliliters, sometimes they were even larger.
Dry measurements used in cooking are heaped or leveled tablespoons.

Summary:

1.A teaspoon is smaller in size than a tablespoon.
2.Tablespoons are used in the preparation of food and serving food. They are not involved in setting the table; whereas teaspoons are used in stirring or in sipping or adding sugar to tea or coffee and set on the table.
3.Teaspoon is always denoted as “tsp.” whereas tablespoon is denoted as “Tbsp.”
4.Measurement-wise the difference can be explained in many ways. The measurement of a liquid accommodated in the spoon can be differentiated as:

1 tablespoon is equal to 3 teaspoons. If we put it more accurately, 2.9 teaspoons equals 1 tablespoon in the US.
Another way of showing the exact difference is 0.5 ounces is equal to 1 tablespoon in the US is 0.166666667 ounces is equal to 1 teaspoon in the US. Thus the difference between tablespoon and teaspoon is 0.333333333 ounces in the US.
In the US, 1 teaspoon is equal to 1/3 tablespoon.
