Western Digital has come out with many types of hard disks, and the more widely used ones are the Caviar Green and Black. Well, almost everyone is so confused when it comes to choosing WD Caviar Green and Black hard disks, as they have many differences.

Let us discuss some of the differences between WD Caviar Green and Black hard drives. When talking about their performance, the WD Caviar Black’s performance is better than the Green’s. The WD Caviar Black is noisy, and also consumes more power. On the other hand, the WD Green is considered to be a hard drive for general use. The WD Green makes less noise, and has a more efficient power consumption rate.

Well, the WD Caviar Green hard drive starts at 86 mb/s, and comes to an end at 65 mb/s. Moreover, the WD Green has heavy NCQ optimisation, and is known to work well under many disk loads. On the other hand, the WD Black starts at 110 mb/s, and ends at 85 mb/s.

While the WD Caviar Green hard drive has a 5400-rpm speed, the Black hard drive has a 7200-rpm speed. In the case of energy saving, the Green drives use only 35 percent less energy when writing or reading, when compared to the 64 percent of the Black drives.

Unlike the WD Caviar Black, the WD Green drives are not fast, as they have a reduced spindle rotation.

When comparing the price of the two drives, the WD caviar green drives are cheaper than the WD Caviar blacks drives.
