Difference Between Canon T1i and Canon T2i

Canon T1i vs Canon T2i

The Canon T1i and T2i, as they are known in the US, is also labeled as the 500D and 550D respectively in most areas of the world. As you may have expected, the T2i is an upgrade to the T1i and the upgrades are quite significant. The first difference you would probably notice is the jump in sensor resolution from 15 megapixels in the T1i to 18 megapixels for the T2i. Sensor resolution dictates the maximum level of detail that you can capture with your camera.

Aside from the resolution, we also have two more improvements in imaging. The first is the ISO range, which is a major factor when you want to take photos that utilize natural lighting or the lack thereof. The T1i has a range of 100 to 3200 while the T2i has a range of 100 to 6400. The second improvement in the T2i is exposure compensation. The range for the T2i is at ±5.0EV while that of the T1i is only at ±2.0EV. Exposure compensation allows the user to adjust how long the image is exposed in order to achieve the correct look.

Although both cameras can take HD quality video, the T2i is better at this task because it can take video at a higher FPS count. At 1080p, the T2i is able to take 30fps while the T1i has a maximum of 20fps. It also translates to lower resolutions as the T2i can have the full 60fps at 720p and lower while the T1i has a maximum fps of 30.

Lastly, only the T2i is able to accept SDXC cards. SDXC is just another variant of the popular SD memory card, but has a capacity range of 32GB up to 2TB (2048GB). The T1i can only accept SD and SDHC cards which should be sufficient for most users nowadays. The T2i can also read those two card types, so there is no worry about not being able to use the older cards that you currently have. It just provides you with the ability to move to SDCX cards when you want to.

Summary:

1. The T2i has an 18 megapixel sensor while the T1i has a 15 megapixel sensor

2. The T2i has a wider ISO range than the T1i

3. The T2i has a wider exposure compensation range than the T1i

4. The T2i is better than the T1i at taking videos

5. The T2i can accept SDXC cards while the T1i cannot
