Difference Between Amazon Kindle Fire and Sony Tablet S

Amazon Kindle Fire vs Sony Tablet S

The Amazon’s Kindle and Sony’s Tablet S are two tablets released roughly at the same time with their respective manufacturers having very little experience in tablets. The two went with very different approaches, with Amazon going for the stripped down hardware while Sony opting to go for a more full-featured one. The main difference between the Kindle Fire and the Tablet S is the size. The Kindle Fire only has a 7 inch screen compared to the bigger 9.4 inch screen of the Tablet S. But the Kindle Fire has size and weight on its side. It is more portable as you can put it just about anywhere and less tiring if you hold it even with just one hand.

Amazon also decided that cameras are not important. Thus, there are no cameras in the Kindle fire. The Sony Tablet S, just like most other smarpthones, has two cameras; a 5 megapixel rear-facing camera, which is capable of recording 720p HD video, and a 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera for video calling. Most people don’t really use the cameras in tablets much, but if it’s one feature you can’t live without, then the Kindle Fire is probably not for you.

When it comes to connectivity, they both have the basic WiFi connection and no cellular connectivity. But the difference between the Kindle Fire and the Tablet S is the lack of Bluetooth in the Kindle Fire. Bluetooth connectivity is good for quickly transferring files from one device to another and for connecting with accessories like wireless keyboards, headsets, mice, and many others.

Lastly, there is the issue of memory. The Tablet S has ample amounts with models that feature 16GB and 32GB of internal memory. And if you find it lacking, then you can stick an SD card for up to an additional 32GB. The Kindle Fire has a very conservative 8GB of memory. And it does not have a memory card slot, so you are stuck with that 8GB of storage.

Summary:

  1. The Tablet S is much heavier and larger than the Kindle Fire
  2. The Tablet S has a larger screen than the Kindle Fire
  3. The Tablet S has two cameras while the Kindle Fire doesn’t have any
  4. The Tablet S has Bluetooth while the Kindle Fire doesnt
  5. The Tablet S has way more memory than the Kindle Fire
