Difference Between Acne and Rosacea

Acne vs Rosacea

There is a lot of difference between acne and Rosacea, and they should not be mistaken as the same. Many people wrongly assume that rosacea has a similar characterization due to the similarities between acne and Rosacea symptoms, but actually these are completely different skin disorders.

Acne has many components such as papules, cysts, white and blackheads etc, whereas rosacea has red papules only. Acne can be present almost anywhere on the body, whereas Rosacea is only present on the nose, face and cheek. People who have acne usually have oily skin, but those who have dry facial skin may suffer from Rosacea.

Rosacea gets aggravated when the deceased area is exposed to sun or heat, and if the person eats too much spicy food. Although both of them are different skin diseases, the treatments are almost the same.

Acne patients develop cysts and nodules in severe cases, which may leave scars, whereas in Rosacea patients scarring has been rarely observed. Rosacea normally starts after the age of thirty, whereas acne starts in patients who are as young as eighteen years of age.

Rosacea is associated with flushing and blushing, which is not seen with acne patients, whereas acne is associated with blackheads which are not seen in Rosacea. Both of them have a close affinity to sebhorrheic dermatitis, and people who have Rosacea may also have acne. Rosacea, when compared to acne, is a neurovascular condition, whereas acne is a outbreak of the skin in the form of pimples. Patients who have Rosacea have red patchy skin with less prominent pimples, whereas acne pimples become very noticeable.

Rosacea has four subtypes – Papulopustular, Erythematotelangiectatic, Ocular and Phymatous Rosacea. Papulopustular Rosacea is mistaken for acne because it has almost the same symptoms, and Erythematotelangiectatic Rosacea is associated with the quick flushing of the facial skin. Ocular Rosacea affects the eyes, and Phymatous rosacea occurs on the nose, chin, ears, and forehead. Acne also has many types, and they start with lesion.

Summary:

1. Rosacea occurs typically in grownups, while acne starts from the teen ages.
2. Acne breaks out on the neck, back, arms and facial skin, whereas Rosacea is only seen on the nose, cheeks and face.
3. Rosacea and acne can be present in the same individual.
4. Acne is associated with oily skin, whereas Rosacea occurs in dry facial skins.
5. Acne and Rosacea both have many types, and they are both two different types of skin disorders.
