Difference Between Depression and Clinical Depression

Depression vs Clinical Depression

Every one of us may undergo feelings of being down and sad. This is just normal. There is no one out there that is immune to such feelings, and it is usually different from person to person how they are able to cope up from such emotions. Even those people who have claimed to attain inner peace are not exempted from this feeling. But what matters most is that these people know how to handle such feelings and in the end, able to lift up their head and say that they are now alright.

You might have lost someone dear to you. You might have failed to attain what you most sought after. Or you might have caused grief to another person that you cannot bear to stomach in. These are only some of the many reasons why people become sad and depressed. Still, even though they may feel this way, it does not entirely mean that it is end of their world. It is even likened to a revolving wheel, at times you may be down, but you know that there will be a time that you will be on top and become happy.

But after all this have been said and done, there are still many people who have no idea what depression really is and how it affects their lives. Furthermore, some people may also not know that too much depression may cause something else, especially if they have no or inadequate coping measures. And thus, this topic will discuss the difference between plain depression and clinical depression.

Plain depression or simple depression is considered as a normal occurrence in everyone’s life. This means that everyone undergoes such an event. This kind of depression usually is rated accordingly, with mild depression as something that does not cause a great deal of damage to a person. Furthermore, mild depression also does not cause any alterations in daily living. Moderate to severe depression though may cause some inconveniences to a person, depending on the severity of the cause. But still, this kind of depression does not last long and individuals are able to cope up with the reason for their depression.

But on the other hand, when depression already lasts more than 6 months, severely affects the livelihood of the individual, and there is a significant effect to the health, then it can now be considered as a clinical depression. Psychiatrists or professionals assess such individuals in order to prevent complications later on. Clinical depression is usually reached when individuals do not have the right coping mechanisms to handle the cause of their depression.

  1. It’s a lot more complicated than that, but this is a really tough one to tackle. It could be out of the scope of the purpose of this website, but I understand the idea is to be as comprehensive as possible. It may be that nothing short of serious philosophical essay can really deal with these concepts appropriately, but I respect the attempt. The same would go for sadness vs depression article, and a lot of other heavy ones.
