When talking of rabbits, dwarf lops and mini lops are well known varieties. Though dwarf lops and mini lops are new rabbit breeds, they are widely preferred.

Both the dwarf lops and mini lops have been developed from the breed Lop, which is considered an old rabbit breed. Lop is a term that refers to the characteristic of having long, wide and hanging ears.

Though dwarf lops and mini lops are almost similar in many aspects, the main difference between the two rabbit breeds is in their size. The dwarf lop breeds come in a size larger than that of the mini lop rabbit breeds. When comparing the weight between the dwarf lops and the mini lops, the former rabbit breeds are heavier. The dwarf lops weigh about 2.5 kg, while the mini lops weigh about 1.6 kg.
The dwarf lops are adorable but they do not go with children. On the other hand, the mini lops go with children. Unlike the Dwarf lop rabbits, the mini lop breeds love attention. They also love to be cuddled and handled. When comparing the temperament between the two breeds, the mini lops come with excellent temperaments. In contrary to the dwarf lops, the mini lops make good house rabbits and are good companions.
When comparing the two breeds, the Dwarf Lop breeds were the first of the two to be developed. The dwarf lops were developed by bringing in the dwarf gene to the French Lop rabbit.
Both the mini lops and the dwarf lops come in different colours. The Mini lops comes in Chinchilla, black, Lynx, Chestnut, Opal, BEW, White, REW, Chocolate, blue, Orange and lilac. The Dwarf Lops come in many colors from lilac to black to orange.

  1. Obviously written by a mini Lop breeder. The Dwarf Lop have a far more better temperament for children than the mini Lop. They are like the even, kindly temperament of a Labrador. Being bigger they are built more robust to cope with an accidental mishap eg being dropped than a smaller rabbit. I was told the Dwarf Lop was bred to be a child’s pet.
