Difference Between EliteBook and ProBook

The HP EliteBook and ProBook are a family of high-quality, elegantly crafted business notebooks made by tech giant Hewlett Packard. Specially crafted for corporate clients and SMB customers, the EliteBook and ProBook series are some of the finest business class notebooks and great examples of successful innovations. The company placed its EliteBook series a little on the higher side compared to the ProBook series of laptops. The EliteBook is designed to perform while keeping up with the US MIL-STD 810F military-standard test specifications, which means they are remarkably tough and sturdy enough to take on some heavy beatings.

The ProBook also comes with some pretty impressive configurations at a more budget-friendly price. The ProBook are affordable business notebooks aimed at mainstream business users and are priced reasonably lower than the EliteBook. With all new metal designs, the ProBook is packed with some pretty tough hardware to impress the ones in suits. Both ProBook and EliteBook are packed with Intel’s latest processors and come in a range of sizes – meaning there is one to fit just about any need. However, the EliteBook is the top-tier business notebook that’s built to last and the ProBook is one tier below the EliteBook but packs almost the same arsenal. Let’s take a look at some key distinguishing points to see which one is the better deal.

What is HP EliteBook?

The EliteBook is the lineup of premium business-class notebooks made by HP. The company introduced the EliteBook series of laptops in Aug. 2008 along with EliteBook mobile workstations which were later rebranded and introduced as HP ZBook in Sept. 2013. The EliteBook set new standards for design, performance, and usability. The EliteBook is elegantly crafted and engineered to meet the MIL-STD 810G military-standard specifications for superior performance. HP redefined the commercial PC experience with the EliteBook which packs some serious hardware under the hood. The EliteBook is in its fifth generation now with the EliteBook 830 G5, 840 G5, and 850 G5 latest in the series featuring 13.3, 14, and 15.6-inch Full HD display respectively. The 800 series is powered up to the 8th generation of Intel Core i7 processors and up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM.

What is HP ProBook?

The ProBook is an inexpensive alternative to the top tier EliteBook series of notebooks, built for the mainstream business users. The ProBook series was first introduced in April 2009 starting with the S-series, which was followed by the B-series and M-series. The ProBook notebook lineup was one of the first to offer a choice of the latest processor technologies, including both Intel and AMD solutions. The ProBook offers a new standard for performance in a lightweight form factor so that you can carry the ProBook to office, coffee shop, or anywhere in between. HP announced its sixth-generation ProBook 400-series notebooks in 2018, primarily targeted at small and medium businesses. The ProBook 440 G6 and 450 G6 are the latest in the series that come with 14-inch and 15.6-inch display.

  1. Article full of meaningless, empty sentences like “HP redefined the commercial PC experience with the EliteBook which packs some serious hardware under the hood”. Yeah well.

In every paragraph you insist on the “top of the line” yet do not give any single reason for that, only a vague reference to MIL certification (marketing trick) just like in HP leaflets. Digging a little you could mention that Elitebook are NOT MIL-certified, only “designed with it in mind”.

    • But they didnt say its the Elitebook which packs some serious hardware under the hood, it is the Probook.

But i agree, what is all this “MIL-STD 810G military-standard test specifications” mean to a layman, just tell us what they do and cost!

  2. Thank you, great description and I loved the VS, I work in an intelligence company and we use the elitebook.

Once my coffee touch the keyboard but it didn’t happen anything.

  5. And why are the processoors in the Probook never mentioned? Perhaps because HP pays you to avoid mentioning the i5 processors in the Probook.
    Shameful omission of key info.
