Difference Between IVF and Tube Reversal

pregnantIVF vs. Tubal Reversal

IVF or In vitro fertilization refers to one of the most popular and acclaimed methods of artificial fertilization used to deal with infertility problems in the contemporary age. In this process the haploid ovum or egg cells are allowed to fertilize with haploid sperm cells in strict laboratory conditions outside the womb. The fertilization takes place in vitro, in a fluid medium. In vitro fertilization is one of the last resorts that doctors opt to when most of the other assisted reproductive tools are rendered useless.

On the other hand, tubal reversal (also known as tubal ligation reversal or tubal sterilization reversal) is a surgical process that determines the restoration of fertility in women even after a tubal ligation. The process concerns the reinstating of the estranged sections of the fallopian tube. This is a unique process that enables women to get pregnant once again in a natural way. This is a fragile surgery that needs to be carried out in caution by trained medical professionals.

The basic difference between In vitro fertilization and tubal reversal is that, the former is a refined medical process that aims at bypassing the natural environment which assists normal conception. It avoids the passage of the ovum cells through the fallopian tubes. On the other hand, ligation reversal or tubal reversal refers to the act of undoing the knots in the fallopian tubes to allow the ovum cells pass unhindered through them. Tubal reversal allows women to conceive naturally.

Moreover, tubal reversal is a less expensive medical treatment when compared to in vitro fertilization. An entire process of Tubal reversal generally costs $4900 to $6900, whereas a single round of in vitro fertilization costs as much as $9000 to $12000. And the costs may even rise if it’s necessary to use intra-cytoplasmic sperm injections or donor ovum cells. Moreover, with tubal reversal couples bag on the chance of pregnancy for more than once, this is not possible in IVF. Hence, tubal reversal is no wonder a more advantageous process.

Summary:

1)IVF is also termed as in vitro fertilization. Tubal reversal is the short form for tubal sterilization reversal or tubal ligation.
2)IVF bypasses the use of fallopian tubes for conception, whereas tubal reversal reinstates the fallopian tubes for natural conception.
3)IVF is a more expensive process costing $9000 to $12000 in one round, while a single round of tubal reversal costs just $4900 to $6900.
