Difference Between Minecraft and Roblox

The end of the 1970s transitioned into a new era what some call the golden age of video games. Gone are the days of the pixilated screens and weird sounds as video games have become more life-like than ever. Today video games are a global phenomenon. There are some games that keep you so immersed in the gameplay that you even forget the world around you. Two such games which have been around for a decade or so, but still give us sleepless nights are Minecraft and Roblox. These are both old school games, which would be considered mediocre compared to today’s fast-paced,story-driven games. They are incredibly popular games with some serious fanbase around the world. While Roblox sounds a lot like Minecraft, both of them are actually quite different when you get to the nitty-gritty details.

What is Minecraft?

Developed by Mojang Studios, Minecraft is one of the most popular and successful games ever released for not just one, but three major gaming platforms, PC, console and smartphones. Minecraft is a sandbox-style game which lets you build your empire from scratch using all the necessary ingredients, ores, supplies and food necessary to be able to do anything you want. Your immediate goal is to survive and secure your defenses against the creatures that come lurking around at night.

What is Roblox?

Roblox is an online game platform that brings players together through play. Roblox is the ultimate virtual world which lets you design any kind of video game or digital world you want. You can log in and join your friends from around the world in any of thousands of different game worlds. Some games are just user-designed worlds for fun and playing around, while others are about building cities or worlds. In Roblox, your imagination comes to life and there’s countless possibilities of what you can possibly do.

Difference between Minecraft and Roblox

Premise

– Minecraft and Roblox both are incredibly popular sandbox style games which allow you to build and create worlds around you. Minecraft is an open-ended survival and world-building game that lets you create a world from scratch using materials which you can harvest and populated by creatures called mobs, which can be killed. Roblox is the ultimate virtual world which brings players together through play. Roblox is much more than what you’d get from Minecraft; Roblox is a game about doing and being whatever you want, and creating games you can actually play in a multiplayer environment.

Gameplay

– While there is no specific storyline in Minecraft, the immediate mission is to survive. Minecraft is all about building your empire which would require that you explore and find all the necessary ingredients, ores, supplies, and food necessary to be able to create just about anything. The idea is to secure your defenses and survive the monstrous dark nights. Roblox sounds a lot like Minecraft but it’s so much more. Roblox lets you design whatever kind of video game or digital world you want – you can build games using bricks that resemble Legos or play the latest Madden if you wish to become an NFL star. Your imagination comes to life in Robolox.

Price

 – Minecraft costs $26.95 for PC and Mac, while the Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition costs $15, and it costs $20 on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Minecraft: PlayStation 4 Edition will cost $19.99, but players who already have the PS3 version can upgrade through the PlayStation Store for $4.99. Robolox, on the other hand, is a free-to-play game; you just have to download the interface to the specific device that you will be using. It lets you play games and design a few for free, but some of the games and gear costs Robux – the in-game currency of Roblox. It costs real money and can be used to purchase upgrades or accessories for your avatar.

Ease of Use

 – While both the games are pretty challenging, Minecraft has little plot and there’s no instructions about what to do next. It provides four difficulty levels to play with – Peaceful, Easy, Normal, and Hard. All you need to do is explore and build, and you can find the resources to create anything you want. Robolox, on the other hand, is a virtual gaming world for teens and kids alike – anyone can jump in at any moment and start making something that’s fun to play or you can join your friends in any of thousands of different game worlds.

Social Aspect

 – This is probably one of the deciding factors. Both Minecraft and Roblox provide a collaborative gameplay experience with the multiplayer environment where you and your friends from just anywhere can build and explore the world together. However, Minecraft is more like a solo-play survival game, while Roblox is all about the community from the minute you sign in. Roblox is an interactive game which is all about social, multiplayer experiences, providing kids with a fun, safe way to build and explore new world and make friends along the way. Roblox lets you build your own world or visit countless others, make friends or meet with friends you already know and chat with them.

Minecraft vs. Roblox: Comparison Chart

Summary

While both are building-and-creating themed games which allow players to build and create worlds that really stand out, Roblox is much more than what you’d actually get from Minecraft and provides a more interactive and immersive experience with a virtual world where whatever you think can come to life. Roblox is all about bringing ideas to life. With endless possibilities, there’s something for everyone in Roblox. Minecraft is not like other games and it’s still one of the most popular sandbox style games in the world and there’s something about this block-filled world that people like so much.
