Caviar Blue and Black are high performing hardware drivers that come from Western Digital. Though both WD Caviar Blue and Black are high performing hardware, they come with many differences.

When comparing Caviar Blue and Black, the latter has a higher performance. However, the WD Caviar Black comes with more noise and consumes more power. The WD Blue has a perfect balance of noise, performance, and power consumption.

The WD Caviar Black comes with SATA 6Gb/s or comes with SATA 3Gb/s interface. On the other hand, the WD Caviar Blue comes with SATA 6Gb/s, SATA 3Gb/s and PATA 100 MB/s.

Another difference that can be seen is that the WD Black has a 500 GB/2TB capacity whereas Blue has an 80 GB/1 TB capacity.

When talking of the performance, the Black is said to come with the maximum performance of 7200 RPM. While the WD Black has a cache size of 64 MB, the Blue has a 32 MB cache. As the Black comes with 64 cache, it means better performance than the Blue.
The WD Black comes with a dual actuator technology. It consists of a head positioning system which comes with two actuators. This helps in improving positional accuracy. The black also consists of a motor shaft which is held at both ends to reduce vibration and also for precise tracking. The WD Black hardware is mainly suitable for video editing, photo editing, maxed-out gaming computers, and multimedia.
When compared to WD Caviar Black, the WD Blue is quiet and ultra cool. As the hard drive is kept cool, the reliability is increased. The WD Blue is mainly used in business and family computing.
