Difference Between Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) and Motorola Atrix 4G

Samsung Galaxy S II (GT-I9100) vs Motorola Atrix 4G

The Galaxy S II and the Atrix 4G belong to the next generation of smartphones; characterized by huge screens, dual core processors, huge amounts of memory, and HD capability. There are a lot of differences between the two, and let’s start with the screen. The Galaxy S II has a bigger and better display than the Atrix 4G with 4.3 inches compared to the 4 inches of the latter. The Galaxy S II also uses AMOLED technology which has proven to be superior in many aspects to traditional TFT used in the Atrix 4G.

The camera is also superior on the Galaxy S II. It has an 8 megapixel camera that takes excellent pictures and HD quality video up to 1080p resolution. The Atrix 4G camera also takes excellent pictures and is beaten by the Galaxy S II with regards to stills only by resolution. With video, the Atrix 4G can only record at 720p although it is expected to have 1080p recording via a patch. This brings us to the next thing–software.

Both of these phones run the Android operating system and it’s just a matter of which version. The Galaxy S II ships with Gingerbread, which is the latest version for smartphones, while the Atrix 4G ships with Froyo. There is no reason why the Atrix 4G can’t run Gingerbread, and it’s probably just a matter of timing why Motorola went with Froyo. A patch to upgrade the Atrix 4G to Gingerbread is expected soon, and it would probably bring along 1080p recording.

The majority of the buzz on the Atrix 4G is not about the unit itself but on the accessories that Motorola has made for it. Top on the list is the laptop dock. It is basically a mini notebook where you can dock your Atrix 4G on, and it would function like a notebook running a custom Linux OS. The dock is actually just a keyboard, battery, and screen so it would not work on its own. It does have the advantage, though, of charging your Atrix 4G while docked. But at $300-$500 for the dock alone, it proves be quite a hefty investment.

Summary:

1.The Galaxy S II has a bigger screen than the Atrix 4G.
2.The Galaxy S II has a better camera than the Atrix 4G.
3.The Galaxy S II can record in HD while the Atrix 4G cannot.
4.The Galaxy S II ships with Gingerbread while the Atrix 4G ships with Froyo.
5.The Atrix 4G has a handful of accessories not available on the Galaxy S II.
