Difference Between Samsung Galaxy S 4G and Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung Galaxy S 4G vs Samsung Galaxy S

Despite being non-4G compliant, T-mobile went ahead and dubbed their HSPA+ network as 4G. The Galaxy S 4G is just another version of the Galaxy S phone that is meant to work on T-mobile’s network. The main difference between the Galaxy S 4G and the original Galaxy S is the network technology. The Galaxy S 4G is HSPA+ compatible while the Galaxy S isn’t; it is only HSPA capable.

Being HSPA+ capable means that the Galaxy S 4G is also faster than the HSPA capable Galaxy S. The former is able to reach speeds of up to 21Mbps for downloads and 5.7Mbps for uploads while the latter is only able to reach speeds of up to 7.2Mbps and 5.7Mbps respectively. As always, the speeds can only be achieved when under the appropriate network. If you are outside the HSPA+ coverage, you would be restricted to lower speeds.

Another difference between the two phones is the amount of memory that each has. While the Galaxy S had up to 16GB of storage memory, the Galaxy S 4G only has 1GB of ROM for applications and relies on the microSD memory card for additional storage. The decrease in memory was probably done to keep the cost of the handset down.

Lastly, the older Galaxy S ships with Éclair, an older version of Android. On the other hand, the Galaxy S 4G ships with Froyo. Both are upgradeable to Gingerbread, though. So once updated to the latest version of Android, the two phones are virtually identical.

Aside from those mentioned above, the two phones are virtually identical. Both have the same touch capable 4-inch screen, which is protected by Gorilla glass. Both phones are also powered by the same 1Ghz Hummingbird processor with 512MB of RAM for identical performance. Both devices also have the same 5 megapixel primary camera which can record 720p video and a VGA secondary camera.

Summary:

1.The Galaxy S 4G is HSPA+ capable while the Galaxy S isn’t.
2.The Galaxy S 4G can be faster than the Galaxy S.
3.The Galaxy S has more memory than the Galaxy S 4G.
4.The Galaxy S ships with Gingerbread while the Galaxy S 4G ships with Froyo.
