Oral vs Genital Herpes

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are fast becoming a problem in different countries throughout the world. Yes, herpes can basically cause you troubles in different parts of your body. The main causative agent for this infection is the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV). This nasty virus causes blistering and irritation in the affected area of your body. Furthermore, this virus comes in two types, which will be discussed later on in the article.

But before individuals may feel the symptoms of infection, he or she may already have the virus. This is because the virus can remain dormant and inactive for a time until it causes fever, ulcerations, and itchiness. This form of herpes is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus- type 1 (HSV type 1). It is a different strain of the virus that specializes and can infect the cells of the mouth and face. As what I have pointed out, oral herpes is transmitted when an infected person comes in oral contact with another person. Blistering and ulcerations in the mouth area are the usual signs and symptoms.

On the other hand, genital herpes is caused by the Herpes Simplex Virus- type 2 (HSV type 2). This type of virus affects the cells in the genital area, and even the anal area in some causes. Although it exhibits similar symptoms as that of oral herpes, this can be a little bit serious since constant irritation can cause a burning sensation in the affected area. Furthermore, because it can lie dormant, an infected person may not know it is present, making a higher chance to infect others through sexual or anal contact.
