Difference Between Akita and Akita Inu

‘Akita’ and ‘Akita Inu’

Dogs were the first animals to be domesticated, and they were used in hunting and as human companions. They originally came from the gray wolf that existed 15,000 years ago. They have been very useful to man especially in herding, pulling loads, assisting the police and the military, and in assisting handicapped people.
There are several breeds of dogs today as the result of selective breeding. Their behaviors and anatomies are shaped by different environmental factors. Their playfulness and signs of social cognition and communication are the result of their interactions with humans.

Different subspecies of dogs have different characteristics; in fact, even dogs that are bred from a certain breed of dog can manifest traits that are different from the dog from which they are bred. Take the case of the Akita and the Akita Inu, for example.
The Akita Inu is a large Japanese breed of dog. It is a breed that is considered different from the Akita or American Akita by most countries except the United States and Canada which consider them as of the same breed. Even if this is so, the two types of dogs have several differences.

One significant difference between the two is the shape of their heads. The Akita has a large, triangular head that resembles that of a bear and small eyes. The Akita Inu has a head that is shaped like a fox’s, has almond eyes, and ears that are set lower and more forward.

The colors of their coats also differ. While the Akita Inu comes in five different colors, the Akita comes in several colors. Akita Inu dogs only come in white, fawn, red, sesame, and brindle colors while Akita dogs come in all other colors.

The Akita Inu is bred to be a companion dog because these dogs are extremely loyal and intelligent. Although they get bored easily, they can be perfectly happy in homes that provide them with toys and if they are taken out for walks.

The Akita is bred to be a guard dog because Akita dogs are very alert and fearless. They usually live and work alone or in pairs rather than in groups. They also differ in size and height with the Akita as the heavier and larger of the two.

Summary:
1. The Akita Inu is a large Japanese breed of dog while the Akita is also of Japanese origin but is considered by some to be of a different breed.
2. The Akita is larger and heavier than the Akita Inu.
3. The Akita has a head that resembles a bear’s while the Akita Inu has a head that resembles a fox’s.
4. The Akita has small eyes while the Akita Inu has almond eyes.
5. The ears of the Akita Inu are set more forward and lower than the ears of the Akita.
6. While the Akita Inu only has five different colors of coat, the Akita has more with most of the colors deemed unacceptable in the Akita Inu.
