Difference Between Dumper and Dozer

Dumper vs Dozer

Dumpers and dozers both are heavy, earth-moving equipment used mostly in mining or an infrastructure industry. A dumper’s job is to transport the loose material while the job of a dozer is to push the loose material.

Dumper
A dumper is a truck used for transporting the loose material such as fragmented rocks or sand for mining or infrastructure purposes. In the mining industry, dumpers can further be classified into two categories, “rear dumper” and “bottom dumper.”

A rear dumper is equipped with a hydraulically or pneumatically actuated open-box bed hinged at the rear, the front of which can be lifted up to allow the material to be dumped onto the ground behind the truck. A bottom dumper body is divided in two halves, and when its bottom portion is opened through the hydraulic or pneumatic cylinders, it discharges the material from that area of the vehicle. So this is the basic design difference between a rear dumper and a bottom dumper.

The mining industry generally uses rear dumpers in combination with excavators or shovels, and bottom dumpers are used in combination with loaders. Caterpillar, Komatsu, Man, Liebherr are the big companies who make this equipment for the mining or construction industries.

Dozer
A dozer is a track chain-mounted piece of equipment with a large metal blade in front of the body which is used to push large quantities of material in the mining and construction sectors. These days, wheel-mounted dozers are also available in the market.

In the mining industry, a variety of jobs are performed through these types of equipment like road building, face cleaning, boulder removal, and dump yard management . A dozer is a versatile piece of equipment, and it can also be used to loosen compact material through the use of a ripper arrangement at the rear. Caterpillar and Komatsu are the big companies who make this type of equipment for the mining or construction industries.

Summary:

1.A dumper is used to transport loose material while a dozer is used to push the loose material.
2.A dumper is a tire-mounted piece of equipment while a dozer can be tire or track mounted.
3.Dumpers are categorized as either a rear dumper or a bottom dumper having a dumping body for handling the material. Dozers have a metal blade in front of their bodies.
4.Dumpers work in combination with excavators or loaders while dozers work independently.
