Hypothesis is a proposed explanation of an observable phenomenon. It literally means to suppose and it requires testing. It is a trial solution to a problem or an educated guess based on the evidence presented.
It is usually tested through experiments and it can either be scientific or mathematical. Its importance or worth requires evaluation and research in order to confirm or disprove it. Scientific hypothesis usually follow a mathematical model and they can sometimes be existential statements.
Useful hypothesis usually enables predictions through reasoning and can predict the outcome of a natural phenomenon or an experiment. In every hypothesis the outcome must be known to the investigator in order to show the truth of the hypothesis.
A hypothesis is not always true and a proposition or theory cannot be considered scientific if it cannot be shown as false. Everything must be verifiable and coherent and must be able to answer questions and explore observations.
Here are the characteristics of a hypothesis:

ï¿½ It must be simple with no excessive number of entities
ï¿½ It must have a scope wherein it can be applied to different cases
ï¿½ It must be fruitful in that it must be able to explain other phenomena in the future
ï¿½ It must have conservation or the degree of fit with existing knowledge or systems.
In evaluating a hypothesis, others say that it must be falsified. If falsifying it fails then the hypothesis can be considered true until such time that it can be falsified.
Others feel that a lack of falsification does not count as verification. They believe in the importance of having well crafted and controlled experiments on several possibilities so that the theory can be applied and proven.
A hypothesis must have a concept, an abstract unit of meaning that plays a key role in its testing. A concept is a basic component of hypothesis and they are connected by specifying their expected relationships to each other.
Aim on the other hand is the purpose of the undertaking. It is to prove or disprove the hypothesis and is the goal beyond the testing of the hypothesis.
It involves the subject matter and all data and facts associated with it which is essential in the evaluation and verification of a hypothesis. Every hypothesis should have a clear and specific aim to be able to prove its merit better.
