Difference Between Islam and Buddhism

buddhaIslam vs Buddhism

When it comes to some of the major religions in the world, a lot of people are skeptical, or even fearful of something that they do not know a lot about. Here, we will try to do away with some of the most common misconceptions regarding the two most common religions in the world: Islam and Buddhism.

First, let’s take a look at what Islam, as a religion, is all about. It’s based on the religious book Qur’an, and the literal meaning of the name is ‘submission to God’. A Muslim, therefore, is someone who submits himself to God.

Based on the teachings of Islam as a religion, there are five duties which Muslims must practice within the community ‘“ and this is what Islamic Law revolves around. Islam is a dominant religion in the Middle East, some parts of Asia, and North Africa. Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world, with about 13% of the population practicing the Islam religion. Arab countries and those in the Indian sub-continent also have a high percentage of Muslims.

What about Buddhism? Where Islam is based on the words of Allah, Buddhism is based on the words of the Buddha, or Siddharta Gautama. More than being a religion, Buddhism is a philosophy which encompasses a variety of traditions, practices and beliefs. Where Muslims have the Five Pillars of Islam, Buddhists believe in the two major branches of Buddhism, which include the Theravada, or ‘The School of the Elders’, and Mahayana, which is ‘The Great Vehicle’. Buddhism is a widely-practiced religion in Southeast Asia and Sri Lanka.

Next, let’s take a look at the distinct differences between the two religions. Buddhism only introduced the concept of God in the later doctrines, while Muslims believe in a God known as Allah. Buddhists also believe that the actions of a person are dependent on his salvation ‘“ while Islam does not believe in salvation.

Buddhism does not focus too much on good and evil ‘“ while Islam considers Allah to be the creator of the universe, as well as being the source of all that is good and evil. Finally, karma is something that Buddhists believe in when you talk about eternal life ‘“ while Islam’s view on it is that eternal life depends on the works of a person in his or her present life while following the Islamic path.

Summary:

1. Islam is focused on the Five Pillars of Islam, while Buddhism has two major branches which include the Theravada and Mahayana.

2. Islam is a religion which considers Allah to be God, while Buddhism only introduced the concept of God in their later doctrines.

3. Islam is a religion dominant in the Middle East and some parts of Asia, while Buddhism is a dominant religion in Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia.

    • After living few years in Europe, where I studied Buddhism Philosophy. I love to be a Buddhist.
I grew up in an Islamic country, with back ground of Christian family in IRAQ. Where the Iraq accept just religions, where God concept exist.
Through my experience,,, Iraq and all Islamic ( Arabic countries ) refusing the Buddhism concept ( believe).
I suffered from discrimination inside Iraq. In psychological way.
The reason that Iraq cannot accept Buddhism are many.

The “Bible” of Islam, the “glorious Koran,” makes great demands of Muslims:

Sura 4.84 “Fight in Allah’s cause…It may be that Allah will restrain the fury of the unbelievers…”

“Fighting in Allah’s cause” means fighting anyone, anywhere, at home and abroad, who is not a Muslim. Peace between Muslims and the rest of the world is never a genuine peace.

Sura 4.89 “They [all who are not Muslims, and are referred to as "unbelievers"] but wish that ye should reject faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing as they. So take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah from what is forbidden. But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them where ever you find them; and in any case take no friends from their ranks.”

If you think you can do something “nice” for a Muslim, and thereby make a true friend, think again. If a Muslim makes friends with anyone who is not a Muslim, he has broken a law of Islam, and gone against his “god,” Allah. He may appear to be your friend as long as he can use that “friendship” to his own benefit, or the benefit of his kind (the Koran permits that). But never turn your back to him.

Sura 9.16 “Take none for friends and protectors except Allah, His Messenger [Muhammad], and the community of Believers [Muslims].”

THE ROOTS OF ISLAM – THE DEEP ROOTS
The Arabians are descendants of Abraham’s illegitimate son, Ishmael. Abraham’s foolishness was great, not having the patience to wait upon the Lord for a promised son and heir. But because, in general, Abraham was true to God, and though there would be no covenant for Ishmael’s people, still he was his son; God promised to bless the lad. And He did.

“And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation” (Gen. 17:20).

“Now these are the generations of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, whom Hagar the Egyptian, Sarah’s handmaid, bare unto Abraham” (Gen. 25:12):

“And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebajoth; and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam” (Gen. 25:13),

“And Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa” (Gen. 25:14),

“Hadar, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah” (Gen. 25:15):

“These are the sons of Ishmael, and these are their names, by their towns, and by their castles; twelve princes according to their nations” (Gen. 25:16).

“And these are the years of the life of Ishmael, an hundred and thirty and seven years: and he gave up the ghost and died; and was gathered unto his people” (Gen. 25:17).

“And they dwelt from Havilah unto Shur, that is before Egypt, as thou goest toward Assyria: and he died in the presence of all his brethren” (Gen. 25:18).

But God also foretold how it would be with Ishmael and his descendants:

“And the angel of the LORD said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son, and shalt call his name Ishmael; because the LORD hath heard thy affliction” (Gen. 16:11).

“And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren” (Gen. 16:12).

This Bible prophecy is short and to the point. It accurately describes the people of the Middle East. A few thousand years later along came an Arabian camel driver named Muhammad, dreamed up a new religion, molded a number of independent and quarreling Ishmaelite tribes into one body, which would be as much political as religious, and launched a campaign to conquer the world for “Allah” – at the point of a sword – in much of the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and beyond. Before the Mohammedans were driven back into the Arabian deserts, many people converted to Islam, and many died because they wouldn’t.

ONE OF THE THREE GREAT ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS?
The religious elite of this nation, and the educators and liberals, have been duped into believing that Islam is one of “three great religions which have descended from Abraham.” A short time ago, it became public knowledge that the University of North Carolina was going to compel their students to read a book explaining the “truth” about the Koran. This book, however, is strongly biased in favor of the Koran and Islam. Watching TV interviews with various experts on Islam, one gets the feeling that there is an effort in this nation, if not to win converts to Islam, then at least to portray that religion as superior to Christianity. Young people are being targeted. In one school in California, children must wear Islamic clothing, recite the Koran, and pray in the Islamic fashion. This is a dangerous trend. If Abraham knew that he is being credited with fathering Islam, he would be turning over in his grave. Some of the leaders of institutions in this country have no idea what deadly seed they are planting in the minds of the young and the more unwary.

THE EVIDENCE IS CLEAR. ISLAM IS A FALSE RELIGION
You don’t have to be a Christian, or even religious at all, to prove that Muhammad was a gigantic fraud, that “Allah” was a creature of Muhammad’s own imagination, and that the Koran isn’t worth the paper it’s written on. Apparently, this Arabian camel driver, an employee of his wife (she owned a trucking company of that vintage – a fleet of camels), had ambitions to be a prophet, and a great prophet at that. In fact, he wanted to be the greatest prophet that ever lived, or that ever will live. He wanted to be even greater than Jesus Christ.

That presented a serious problem, but it was a problem which he solved in his own way. His solution should have gotten him in hot water, and exposed him as a cheat and a liar but, because followers of the blind are often themselves blind, and seldom pay attention to details, he got what he wanted. Over a billion people think of him as the holiest of all prophets, and Islam as the greatest of all religions.

His problem: he couldn’t deny that Jesus existed; you can’t be greater than someone who never was. So to be greater than Jesus, he was forced to acknowledge that Jesus existed. However, he denied that Jesus was the Son of God who came in the flesh. That means that Muhammad operated in the spirit of you-know-who. “And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world” (1 John 4:3). (That antichrist, by the way, is Satan, not some “scintillating personality,” or “master politician,” or “super general” who is to come into the world, form a confederation of ten European nations, and start the “Great Tribulation,” as is sometimes thought)

By claiming Abraham as the father of his religion, and Jesus as the prophet who preceded him, who announced “glad tidings” of his arrival, Muhammad set himself up as the ultimate Messenger and Prophet of the final and “most complete religion.” He thereby fabricated the worst and most blasphemous cult that ever existed. Far worse than Buddhism, or any of the other Eastern religions which make no such deceitful claims.

According to Muhammad, the Koran comes directly from “Allah” through the angel Gabriel. Muhammad recognized the Bible as the Word of God that came down through the prophet Moses to the “people of the Book.” Muhammad also recognized Jesus as a righteous prophet of God. But watch how this is going to trip him up – not that anyone ever seems to have noticed.

Sura 6.85 “And Zakariya and John, and Jesus and Elias: all in the ranks of the righteous.”

Believe it or not, he acknowledged the Gospel of Jesus as legitimate:

Sura 2:3 It is He who sent down to thee (step by step), in truth, the Book, Confirming what went before it; and He sent down the Torah (of Moses) and the Gospel (of Jesus).

But notice the great contradiction. To Muhammad, Jesus was nothing more than an ordinary prophet or messenger, no greater than any other prophet:

4.171 “Christ Jesus the son of Mary was no more than a Messenger of Allah…”

He condemns to everlasting hell anyone who claims that Jesus is the Son of God, or that He is the only begotten Son of God, or that He died on the cross for the sins of the world:

Sura 4.48 “…to set up partners with Allah [Jesus Christ or the Holy Spirit] is to devise a sin most heinous indeed.”

Sura 5.72 “Certainly they disbelieve who say: ‘Allah is Christ the son of Mary.’ But said Christ: ‘O Children of Israel! worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’ Whoever joins other gods with Allah,- Allah will forbid him the Garden, and the Fire will be his abode. There will for the wrong-doers be no one to help.

9.17 Those who believe in the holy Trinity shall dwell in the fire.

9.30 Christians who call Christ the Son of God have Allah’s curse on them. “The Jews call Uzair a son of Allah, and the Christians call Christ the Son of Allah. That is a saying from their mouth; In this they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. Allah’s curse be on them: how they are deluded away from the truth.”

But in the Gospels – which Muhammad recognizes – there are so many references to Jesus being the Son of God, even by Jesus Himself, that if all these were not in the Gospel there would be no Gospel. But Muhammad chose to believe otherwise.

So Jesus, then, made claims that would condemn Him to eternal fire! How, then, could He also be a righteous Messenger of God? “Allah” was definitely one confused deity!

And we can be sure that the angel Gabriel would have nothing to do with “passing down” the Koran to this self-aggrandizing Arabian malcontent. The Koran didn’t come down from above, rather it may have come up from below. When Muhammad climbed that desert mountain somewhere near Mecca, and crawled into a cave, we can be sure he didn’t see visions of Gabriel. If he saw and heard anything at all, it was demonic, not angelic.

The “Glorious” Koran, a book loaded with super-pious platitudes, endorses warfare, murder, torture, world conquest, rape of women taken captive, and even suicide “for “Allah’s cause.” Most unusual is heaven with beautiful “spouses” for those who “fight and die for “Allah.” This is a carrot-on-a-stick to encourage daring and recklessness in battle. Even suicide bombings are l egitimate in the eyes of “Allah,” the result of desperate and heroic methods of warfare. The ultimate goal of the Koran is to force conversion of the whole world to Islam, peacefully if possible, otherwise by coercion, enslavement, torture, murder, or any other means. Muhammad has managed to dupe many theological intellectuals by claiming that his religion is monotheistic. But if you read the Koran closely enough, you find that, while he supposedly worshiped one Allah, he himself created this “one Allah” and, of course, made himself the nearest thing to Allah.

Whatever this Arabian took in hand to do was authorized and blessed by “Allah” in the Koran (Which is very easy when you write your own Koran). All believers (Muslims) must obey and believe in Muhammad or suffer doom, both here, and in the hereafter. He claims to believe in only one Allah, without Holy Spirit, and no Son. But when Allah speaks in the Koran, he often uses the term “We.” We did this, and We did that. Who is the other member of this “We?” Sometimes it seems to be Muhammad himself.

Muhammad denounces anyone who joins partners with Allah, but notice how he himself works in partnership with Allah on important political issues:

9.3: “Allah and his Messenger dissolves treaty obligations with the Pagans.”

Muhammad positions himself as partner with Allah. He does not say such things as “thus sayeth the Word of Allah.” He rather speaks as an equal of Allah. But Muhammad insists Allah has no partners. What he really says is that Allah has no partners except Muhammad. Believers are always admonished to obey “Allah” and the “Prophet.” To disobey the Prophet could spell eternal damnation:

4.13 Those who obey Allah and His Messenger will be admitted to the Gardens with rivers flowing beneath…

4.14 But those who disobey Allah and His Messenger and transgress His limits will be admitted to a fire, to abide therein…

Allah gives Muslims the authority to chastise anyone who rejects faith – the faith of Islam: “And proclaim grievous chastisement to those who reject faith.” This is characteristic of Islam. They have taken it upon themselves, in accordance with the Koran, to reform the whole world, usually by force.

Christians, on the other hand, are never commanded to visit “grievous chastisement” upon those who sin, or reject faith. If they are members of an assembly, they are, at most, to be expelled, after which they are to be left alone. A good example is (1 Cor 5).

THE ISLAMIC GOSPEL: CONVERT OR DIE!
Sura 9.5: Certain months are set aside when fighting is forbidden. “But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans where ever you find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem of war. But if they repent, and establish regular prayers, and pay Zakat then open the way for them: for Allah is oft-forgiving, most merciful.” If they repent, establish regular prayers, and pay Zakat… This means that they are allowed to live only if they convert to Islam! This is an interesting verse. Acts of terrorism are part of any strategem of war. With Muslims, there is no honor in battle. And forget about fairness, and “rules of engagement.” That’s for all the GI’s, and other heroes. Muslims prefer to abide by the Koran, and sneak, lie, cheat, deceive, lie in wait, and do anything else to gain advantage. That’s the meaning of “stratagem.” Coalition forces are even now finding that out in the aftermath of victory in Iraq. Almost every day Muslims approach U.S. soldiers on one pretense or another, and then open fire with whatever weapon they have available. Are they criminals? In our eyes, yes. But to their own, they are heroes, fighting for “Allah.” Terrorism, even suicide bombings, is justified by the Koran in that Islam is perpetually at war with those of other faiths. They spread their Gospel with AK47′s.

Sura 9.6: “Give asylum to Pagans only for the purpose of converting them to Islam.” Study the Koran carefully. Sometimes it voices words of peace and reconciliation with the unbelieving world (non-Muslims), but by and large, the ultimate goal of Muslims is to convert the whole world to Islam; and not necessarily by peaceful means.

The Koran gives no one a chance to resist conversion to Islam. We read from 9.5 that Muslims are to slay the Pagans wherever they find them. 9:11 “But (even so), if they repent, establish regular prayers, and pay Exact they are your brethren in Faith…”

One can imagine that people have succumbed under threats, and became Muslims, not because they believed in Islam, but to escape possible torture and death. Later, if they made an attempt to break away, they have “violated their oaths,” and Muslims must fight them.

Sura 9.29: “Fight those who believe not in Allah or the last day…until they pay the Jizra with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.”

Sura 9.123 “O ye who believe, Fight the unbelievers who are near to you And let them find harshness in you: and know that Allah is with those who fear Him.”

Christians persecute and make war when they disobey the Bible; Muslims persecute and make war when they obey the Koran. If a Muslim is peaceful, he is so in spite of his religion, not because of it.

Sura 4.95 “Not equal are those believers who sit at home, except those who are disabled. And those who strive and fight in the cause of Allah with their goods and their persons. Allah hath granted a grade higher to those who strive and fight with their persons and goods…”

      SEVENTY-TWO VIRGINS?
I don’t know the actual number Muhammad proposes, but waiting in heaven for Muslims who “do righteousness” such as fight for Allah and His Messenger, are “spouses purified.”

Sura 4.57 “…those who believe and do righteousness, we shall soon admit to the Gardens, with rivers flowing beneath – their eternal home: Therein shall they have spouses purified…”

Sura 52:17 “As to the righteous, They will be in gardens, and in happiness.”

Sura 52:20 “They will recline with ease upon couches arranged in ranks; and We shall wed them to maidens, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes.”

Sura 52.24 “Round about them will serve, devoted to them, youths handsome as pearls well-guarded.”

So when you hear of an Arabian princess donating money for the cause of Muslim terrorists, don’t blame her; she is merely being faithful to her religion. (or maybe she had Sura 52.24 in mind)

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”

At the end,,, it is clear to see that Islam and Buddhism is not working, also will not work in the future.

Me statement based on a logically and realistically observation.

      Regards,,,

  2. excuse me ,, there are no similarity between Islam & Buddhism ..
if you wants to write correctly about Islam ,, you should read about it froooooooom the right source ..
so shall you read this if you wants to know what Islam ? :)

    http://www.rasoulallah.net/index_english.asp

    Hince :
Islam is the religion for the life ,, we learn the pure values ..
    :)

    thanks for your article :)

  3. I would advise the author to do a little research and pose correct concepts as opposites.

5 Pillars in relation to Mahayana and Theravadan Buddhism isn’t a very good juxtapose relation. More like Sunni Islam and Shia Islam might be a little more correct when talking about Mahayana and Theravada.

No disrespect meant, I know that such as article is difficult to write since there is a lot of information to cover.

One other thing, there isn’t really a ‘God’ in Buddhism, meaning an omnipotent being that created or runs the universe.

    Peace

  4. Fundamental difference between islam ,christianity and budhism is that Budhism thier followers preach and follow love mankind and peace.whereas opther two religions do not .they preach only.if you say no then why muslims take Bomb on their hand and kill innocent people and why christians massacred innocent red indians and others..We cannot compare with two barbaric religions with peace loving Budhism.Budha never converted people by force others did

  5. Oh yeah yousif, Muhammad, previous peado and murderer

  6. Buddhism is a religion of peace were as islam teaches its follower to hate non-Muslims. buddhism say that there is no god who control every thing but rather it is your own action which decide your life, it makes sense but islam wants complete submission from its followers, as a human being i believe that i should have the choice to decide what i want to do in my life and there is no need give any proof as to which religion is peaceful..it is there for all to see and decide……….

    • @ nirvana .. who told you that islam teaches us to hate non_muslims ?? you should need to get more information before writing ..

      • That is absolutely wrong. FYI islam is a very peaceful religion n even more than buddhism. In islam’s never revised Quran God tells Islam to believe in both the christianity n jewish religions n that muslims can even marry them for a fact this kind of marriage exists widely in islamic societies. Research before making assumptions

        • Ruby, hahaha

Quote from you, “That is absolutely wrong. FYI islam is a very peaceful religion n even more than buddhism. In islam’s never revised Quran God tells Islam to believe in both the christianity n jewish religions n that muslims can even marry them for a fact this kind of marriage exists widely in islamic societies. Research before making assumptions ”

& this garbage, ” Maybe you can learn some arabic, read the quran, then realize that whoever translated this bull**** is not true n is not a part of the holy quran… It is a holy book sent by a god not some laws n advices made by a person created by god who became a buddhist …”

FYI: Muslims can even marry non-muslims… well, what about non muslim males marrying the so called muslim women? It’s more of a one way street in your belief’s favor eh?!

There’s no GOD except your kind of god, and you are insulting and showing your ignorance on other religion (your animosity toward such “pagan” beliefs). In your mind, buddhist are just savages and must be converted or coerced into conversions. It’s a cultural rape here.

And Islam does discriminate, the muslims may cheat and lie toward non muslims to profit or to conquer them. It’s a fact and I have first hand experiences. Your people are selfish, ignorant and full of craps!!!

    • islam is a very good religone

      • sure :D LOL or are u freaking kidding us ? :D

      • Islam is a religion of peace! I think it is a religion of Piss…
Islam is the Creator, helper & protector of Taliban, Al Kaeda, Al Sahbab and many killer groups. It also strangles the free thinking. Do you know, a secular world is totally unexpected to Muslim people and it gives an unnecessary order(actually permission) to kill Jewish people to be a Jewish…

    • I am a monk and teach the Dharma.

This is completely wrong, Acharya Pragyaratna. If you are a Buddhist and espouse hatred of any other religion, then you are not practicing or don’t know much about the dharma. Buddhism respects all religions and has no quarrel with any of them.

The first step in the Eightfold Path is to have Right Perception. If you take a photo off the internet and believe the caption that accompanies it, the you are a fool and live in a delusional world. Look deeply and try to find the truth before making any assumptions about anything that you see or read.

Islam does not teach hatred of non-muslims. Comparing the two religions is like comparing apples and oranges – the roots of both come out of different times and cultures.

Buddhism has three different schools: Theravada, which is the most orthodox as it stresses only the teachings of Sakyamuni Buddha. The term Hinayana is never used as it is considered by the Theravadans to be a derogatory term. Mahayana, which arose about 200 years after the Buddha’s death, includes the original teachings of the Buddha and the teachings of later teachers. Vajrayana is one of the Mahayana sects, but it is mostly tantric teachings from Tibet. They believe it to be faster, and most of the teachings were meant only for monks as they require many hours a day of practice, which most lay people cannot do.

      • Everyone on here is defending there religion and arguing the peace that they all teach but as a student who is currenently taking a world religion class I am very confused by the violent protests that are currently going on in Burma between these two “very peaceful” religious groups is this just another example of do as I say not as I do?

        • Your answer isn’t accurate. The earliest religions were practiced in the 34th Century BCE by the neanderthal people. They were not Pagans.

Pagan is a Latin word meaning, country dweller. When the Roman church ruled Europe, the people who didn’t go to churches, which were in the cities, were the farmers, and could not leave their fields to travel into the cities for church. Therefore, anybody who didn’t attend church came to be called pagans.

Hinduism didn’t exist until the British colonized India. There were thousands of religions in India, which the British put under one label, Hinduism. The word Hindu is actually the name of the inhabitants of India; not known as a religion until the Brits gave the religion the name.

        • Too many battles are fought, using religion as the reason. It is always about a battle for power.

The Buddhists in ANY country, who harm or kill anybody in the name of Buddhism, are not practicing Buddhists. Buddhists in name only.

Some countries’ political situations are such that even the monks are not taught well, due to restrictions by the regime. The monks in Myanmar and even in Sri Lanka are not practicing the Buddha Dharma.

          • // The monks in Myanmar and even in Sri Lanka are not practicing the Buddha Dharma. //

Well said! With small correction as, SOME OF THE monks in Sri Lanka are not practicing the Buddha Dharma, but involving in violent activities in the name of Buddhism.

Its very unfortunate that they are passing derogatory statements, lies, unparliamentary words etc., on innocent Muslims and creating unhealthy situation in this country. They demolish places of worships, shrines etc and .pelt stones and pork, blood, remains of pigs inside the Masjid.

  7. Why people all over the world converting to Islam? Islam is not racial or regional its not segregating or hateful.its submission to Allah (S.W) the Creator of sky and earth, the Sustainer me and you,the knower of seen and unseen(soul, angels, heavens).if you dontbelive how do you explain this?. we a Allah loving, neighboury n human.something a political and some fighting defensive look at the big picture and not just jump to wrong conclutions.

    • Because it’s either conversion or the sword… bombs nowadays!

      • Then explain how indonesia became the largest muslim nation without any fighting or muslim invasion in their country. Islam is peaceful. Before u talk get ur facts straight and dont blurt out wat ever u want without proof just to justify your point. Explain also why islam today is the fastest growing religion then. Even though there are bad people like terrorists. Alot of followers of other religions are still converting to islam. Get ur facts straight. Then we will talk.

        • Indonesia was a Buddhist, Hindu and animist place first. They were sort of forced to become Muslims, many centuries ago by Arab traders who aggressively spread their religion there. Because at that time Indonesia was many different kingdoms on islands, they weren’t really united, and there were political rivalries. Once the Muslims got a hold of some power, they started really pushing Islam. Only Bali, which is Hindu, survived, and some of the more remote areas which are tribal and animist. Today however, Indonesian Muslims are actively persecuting any of the non-Muslim minorities (except Bali because they need that for the tourism to make money for them!!). Just look at what happened to the people of East Timor, who finally got their freedom in 1999, and what’s happening to the people in Papua New Guinea. The Indonesian govt. does evil things in the name of Islam.
All of South and Southeast Asia used to be Buddhist, Hindu and animist, until the Muslims came from Arabia and forced their religion on the people. Convert or die, or sometimes we’ll let you live, but we’ll make it so difficult for you economically that you’ll be forced to leave or convert.
Islam is spread by the sword primarily. It’s still happening today.

  8. The best way to understand the difference between Islam and Buddhism is to quote and contrast their religious scripture;

Buddhism: ( From the Dhammapada )
    —————
” In this world hate never yet dispelled hate. Only love dispels hate. This is the law, Ancient and inexhaustible. ”
“All things, including you too shall pass away. Knowing this, how can you quarrel?
“It is better to conquer your own mind, than to win a thousand battles.”
“The mind is everything; what you think you become”
“It is a man’s own mind, not his enemy or foe, that lures him to evil ways.”
“Never speak harsh words. For they will rebound upon you.”
“Health is the greatest gift, contentment the greatest wealth”
“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”

Islam: ( From the Koran )
    ——–
“cast terror into the hearts of the infidels. Strike off their heads”
“Men have authority over women because God has made the one superior to the other,”
“When the sacred months are over slay the idolaters wherever you find them”
“Believers, make war on the infidels who dwell around you.”
“Believers, know that the idolaters [non-Muslims] are unclean. ”
“Jews are like pigs and monkeys”
“Reclining in paradise with bashful virgins for companions, they will call for abundant fruit and drink.”
“Women are your fields: go, then, into your fields whence you please.”

And That Ladies and Gentleman is the difference between Islam and Buddhism.

    • Maybe you can learn some arabic, read the quran, then realize that whoever translated this bull**** is not true n is not a part of the holy quran… It is a holy book sent by a god not some laws n advices made by a person created by god who became a buddhist …

      • God is a human creation and human is natures creation. The problem with Christianity and Islam is that they are presented as some messages directly from God. That is the reason their appeal is easily turned into dangerous ideologies by weak and misguided people. Buddhism on the other hand sees no great value in the concept of god (neither accepting nor discarding it), and starts with the assumption that purpose of religion is the human human relation and human nature relationship. And everything works best when there is harmony in these relationships. It further teaches that love, fairness and proper karma (work) is what turns a human civilization to its best. These teachings where the same which Jesus had learnt and preached. And Mohammed taught the same, and at the same time criticized the ‘Christian Churches’ for making Jesus do miracles and rebirth when in fact those things are unnatural. I hope that Muslims and Christians world over realize that it is actually they same thing that these great people have taught. Plus they came at gaps of ~600 years with buddha in 600 BC, Jesus in 0 BC, Mohammed in 600 AD. The additional stuff that Quran has given for muslims is actually not for the entire world but only for the Arab world which was highly uncivilized at that time in contrast with civilization like India and China, Greece and Iran which had been civilized for way too long.
Enlightened Muslims and Christians will hopefully see connection between all three Great men. And one day give away the ideas of superiority of their religion when in fact brotherhood is what is the main aim here, which gets tarnished by the petty fights they are always into.

        • the writer of this article dont know quran was not revealed for muslims or for arabs it is for the whole of the humanity and islam does n,t say anyone to force anyone follow islam it is the duty of each and every muslim to invite whole of humanity towards right path belive in one god peacefully not forcefully, because islam is a religon of peace.if budhism is aphilosphy of living courteous life and they follow buddha so i just want to ask one question to all of budha follower who made buddha who made all of the humans who made creatures who made sky who made sun and moon how it is possible that sperm take shape of a body in a mother belly. so there is a natural power which moves all the things mentioned above & that natural power in islam called almighty ALLAH who make things happen. anybody has powers to do that thing and the answer is definetly no so believe in one god and follow there teachings which he send us through his messengers. so become a muslim and follow the teaching of ISLAM that will teach you how to live your life in a best manner.

          • You ask who made sky, sun, moon then you need to develop interest in Physics not religion. You mention sperms then you need to learn how life develops from self sustaining patterns.
Nothing is revealed my dear friend. The travel to moon, the advances in Medical sciences, the science of telecommunication everything is done by us. The american bombing of Iraq, the russian invasion of Afganistan, the islamic conquest of Persia, the world war 2 and 1, all done by men.
The words of quran, the bible, the thousands of Mahayana sutra and theraveda tipitakas, and all books from yet to arrive religions will also be written by some of us.
When you ask me to become muslim as it teaches the best way to live life, i can only ask you to become buddhist and show the world that muslims are open to other faiths just like they expect understanding and not paronia towards their faith.

          • if god created everything why did nt he created every one as muslims .it would have been mush more easy than sending a prophet and craeting chaos, bombing and killing. And also , his creations are with manufacturing defects like people who are blind, deaf and deceases you can ever imagine of.i would like to thank your god for sending prophet to middle east not to the other parts. where killing beheading, stoning is the way of life.where rest of the world live freely. whereever a muslim goes a terror goes with him.i think his creation of man took some time (few million years from the early creation- from ice age to stone age and so on)how could you belive in a god that promots killing and all sought of terror acts. when we talk about god , it is peace, brotherhood, kindness and love we speak. but in islam its hate, killing, violonce. tell me one islamic country where people live in peace . pakistan and afganisthan where more than 90% are muslims, they kill each other no peace. i think its the only religion where killing their own followers is way to the god.

i want to tell you one story

one man came upto Lord Buddha and asked “Many people came to this villege and said what i am teaching is the right path and other are wrong”
“Every one said he is correct. Who is actually correct”

Lord Buddha said “You questioned the very thing” ” You have the strenth to judge what is wrong and right , analyze from your mind and decide good and bad”"

        • Thank you for your writing. We need more people like you. It is true.

      • @ruby: if you said that the translation is wrong (about kill infidels, men have superiority over women, etc), then how is the correct translation? pelase, provide me one, because I am DYING to know

      • ha haha hatred fills ur mind??? its truth,,, i believe in alha n god n lord brahma,,,its hards to believe that alha makes rules n man can marry so manny wife if he can give same love to all,,i wonder how one can share their heart among women,,,,i reall wonders,,,

      • Shove your arabic culture beliefs into others? No , thanks!!

    • Again Janaka, well said. Wondering if only muslims saw their God? Blindly believed that theirs are the real God…..I don’t think anyone on earth has ever seen God. What, who and where is God? Do not believe in your own eyes if you believe in hearsay. “Do not believe in hearsay, do not believe in things which was passed down from generations”. Some of the advices from Buddha. There are no forces of conversion to Buddhism, not a single drop of blood drop from any kind corresponding to Buddhism. Does not encourage war, but peace to all human beings, love, forgiving, forbids followers from insulting other religion, respect your own religion, do not simply welcome followers of other religions and will instead advice them to respect their religion. Respect the 2 Buddhas at home, your Parents, before you worship me, said the Buddha. Unlike most other religion which hurriedly welcome and said, welcome to my religion and all of your passed sins will be forgiven when you embrace my religion. Is that so?
      Why 4 wives are allowed?
      Why pork forbids?
      Why circumcised?
Why sacrifice with pain and blood?
Do you think God is perfect?
If yes then explain the above.
Why do many babies born without limbs, deaf, mute, blind, retarded etc etc etc??? if God is fair?

      • Why 4 wives are allowed?
        * for your information, this is allow in case if your first wife also agreed for marry with another women, other wise it’s totally not allowed.

        Why pork forbids?
        * guys you just go in techno world google and find out the disadvantages. Because these day all languages are available in techno world.

        Why circumcised?
        * same answer my language you may not believe or understand find your scientist way on google you will know benefit.

Why sacrifice with pain and blood?
        * sorry there’s no sacrifice of pain and blood written anywhere if you talk about bombers, so please kindly remember Muslim is not allow to do this kind of things. It’s like this” suppose you are buddish / christian and I show you a video of Muslim people doing bad and killing your religion people than first of all what will comes in your mind? Even you will not like to know deep reason behind of killing. You will just think of revenge, do me correct?

Do you think God is perfect?
*God is perfect, pure, you ask your self this where you keep your god? In heart, in Temple, In masjid, in church, or somewhere els…. After you find out than ask how god is?

If yes then explain the above.
Why do many babies born without limbs, deaf, mute, blind, retarded etc etc etc??? if God is fair?

        * you ask us this. Answer me about this.
I saw a video man don’t have a legs hands short but he swing more better than you.
I saw a video little 1 year baby don’t have legs don’t have hands but she most tenuous than may be you.

If you want to graduate what do you have to do. Pass through from many many exams, quiz than finally you get damn certificate of graduation. So life is like this man see your eyes ask your self and do your best. God is not in statues, church, masjid, temple or els, it’s around the world close your eyes open your mind. You will see.

  9. Monkeys n pigs?? Seriously lmao I wud love to see where that exists in the quran because I have it memorized by heart!!! Kill n strike their heads … Women r fields hahaahahahaha …looool this is too funny. Effin hillarious get a life or a religion lol

  10. both have different in Buddhism eat vegetable, don’t kill living thing, meditated a lot, and no married for monk.

for Islam don’t drink alcohol, don’t zina (making sex for not married or cheating), hate pig and dog, 5 time prayer each day (good for heath if keep daily), one of benefit being muslin can marry 4 wife.

this is the lifestyle for Buddhism and Islam

    • And jiza (tax on non muslims) for the b/s protection … forced conversion… 72 virgins and young boys in heaven.

The crusades happened because of the muslim forced conquest of the mid east….. it’s a reaction to a cancer.

Afghanistan was once a hindu and buddhist country… the islamic invaders erased that forever

  11. The main difference I see……..HERE and everywhere is that Muslims are SO ANGRY…….. Belligerent and rude. I see ZERO references here from Buddhists calling Muslims liars, or to get a life. No matter WHAT reference a non Muslim uses to reference the Koran, the reply is ALWAYS that the translation is wrong……….or the writer is an idiot………or some other blatant denial of the truth. And what is with the vulgarity? Muslims will drop the F word in a heartbeat. I have seen that on MANY sites discussing Islam and many other religions. Not just Christianity. The fact remains. The other religions ALWAY reply in a logical peaceful manner. And Muslims usually reply………..F#$## You. Your Mother is this or that. I could go on. And this is because you are a religion of Peace? I lived in the Muslim world for 8 years, and saw this daily. Oppression and denial. The two pillars of Islam.
@Ruby………you are a joke. And YOU and your kind are the reason the majority of the world just laughs at you and your reasoning. Islam is NOT a religion of peace. It is a cult of Hate, Hypocrisy and Persecution.

Muslim’s claim that their growth rate is 235 percent and 47 percent for Christianity. This statistic came from the Readers Digest Almanac and Yearbook 1983, and represents 235 percent increase over 50 years. Muslims always leave off the 50 year fact to make it appear they are going 235% every year. A simple review of the readers Digest study shows that the growth rate of Islam vs. Christianity is directly linked to the birth rate in Third World countries where Islam dominates and not actual conversions to each religion. Christianity has always been larger than Islam. These statistics from Readers Digest are over 20 years old. Further, we do not consider readers digest to be an authority on such matters. Why will Muslims not quote real authoritative statistics from certified research groups who show Islam is not the fastest growing religion in 3/4’s of the worlds countries.

  12. Its really funny to read comments of some people here. They act like Islam is such an awful religion, that has a main focus on hate. Sure, then all murderers in the world, are Muslims. Right?

Also very funny: people that shout ‘Islam demands submission to a God, but i wanna do whatever I WANT in MY life, that makes more sense.’ Well, okay then. I mean, lets just not have any boundaries whatsoever. I mean, everyone should have to be able to be in FULL control of what he/she wants to do in her life, right? Well then go murder people! Adultery? Accepted! Pedosexiality? Accepted! Let those cheaters and pedo’s doing their thing, theyre good people right? I mean, why cant we just let them be in full control of their lives? Damn. Yep, there really is something wrong with Muslims. The rest of the world, is just fine and dandy. Pardon the sarcasm. No wait, dont. Im just in full control of my life. Ha-ha.

  13. The gud deeds u do are 4 u,the badder things u do,u’ll get the robound in this life, the next or in any birth to cum,the buddha’s doctrine leads u to the greatest comfort of all, nirvana…this is a religion filled with independence…”if u have a desire to follow the middle path and rid yourself from the worldly sufferings, inquire and find out about this path..and if u feel its right 4 u,cum to my aid”..now thats independence rite out of the buddha’s mouth..

  14. And insulting any religion or god is not the solution,if u feel that a certain religion is best 4 u,go on…but i think that a religion which is not independent or peaceful is nt the best 4 an individual,it shud be more independent like buddhism..cuz every single thing u do..whthr its gud or bad..at last u’ll recieve the rebound..

  15. There is nothing in common between Buddhism and Islam. Islam according to a recent report by French govt shows europe has 40 no go areas where not even the police will go. Buddhism zero. London, madrid, new york bombed buy muslims. Budhism zero. Muslims cutting off head of 9 year old thai boy and father hanged, many monks killed over the last few years in thailand. Buddhism chopping off heads or killings muslim priests-zero. Whether you read arabic or not these things happen again and again. Actions speak louder than words my dear Ruby. Women put in hole and stones thrown at her till she dies, gays hung in Iran, buddhist statues destroyed in afghanistan and nalanda wiped out. Issarah sorry but there are no Hindu, buddhist, jain issues but muslim issues. No hindus bombed london, no jain crashed into buildings, no christian hung a gay. Why ??? Jihad and sharia. It is in your book. The book that tells muslims to conquer and dominate. It is there in black and white.

  16. Fearful, yes! And rightly so. People know enough about Islam these days, watch the news, read the papers. ASK somebody, get educated. And the books I dare not read them cause they say one thing and then mean another. All books about religions has been revised throughout the generations. So anyone can say this is what has been written here and so this is why it is good or whatever have you, on following us. What a bunch of crock! Thats how they convert people by reading THEIR books. And having their preachers come and try to convince you. Many of us were born in to a culture to practice Buddhism, so stop trying to convert everybody its part of our CULTURE!! There is no such thing as being born a Muslim or Buddhist or whatever have you. ITS A CHOICE. Whatever was written about Islam has probably been edited and edited and so forth for hundreds of years by whomever so the good that was supposed to come out of the Quran has probably been tainted by all that rubbish Islamist s have put down. And I’m fine reading whatever it is the hell I want. Its up to the individual to decide whether he wants to join something or not. I’m sure Islam is good in many ways but, I go by facts and the trend, and right now it ain’t looking to good for Islam. You infest southeast Asia and spread through fear. majority of the people that do convert probably are going through some very difficult times or lost their way and need some guidance. Thats true too. SMH. How do I know cause I live it everyday, so unless you live in the country side, you don’t know jack squat! Them city Islamist’s or whatever the heck you want to call them are far greater threat cause all they concoct everyday is how they can kill all the non believers or westerners because of this and that. How about you just live your own life and stop interfering with normal people. Always looking for a damn excuse for everything. I’m not saying Christians are far better but they do send humanitarian aid to whatever country needs it and YOU NEVER EVER see a Muslim, saying were here to help you, majority of aid is coming from the west!!! or china!! TRUTH be told. I myself am southeast Asian and am very educated on whats going on around me and I’m no fool to see what Islam is doing here in the far far east. Karma is a B**ch and you will feel it a million fold when when you stir up Asians, mark my word. Sorry, probably went waaaaay off the main subject here, the difference between Islam and Buddhism, but I just had to speak my thoughts.

    • You are so right. I am not southeast Asian, but I have lived in Southeast Asia for 6 years and have so much respect for the culture. I hope Asians join us westerners in fighting against backwards, fascist Islam! China, we need you too.

  17. To the muslim readers here: What is your answer & solution for the Egyptian Copts? Now that is your caliphate is blooming and winning your theocratic democracy there…. go ahead and explain your logics eh???

  18. Dear everyone :
yeah you all true. there are many muslims who are attacking, bomps, killings. But one thing you should remamber, they know them as muslims but I don’t call them even human, they are even worse than devil, becouse there action is quiete wrong. One quession, doet it mean if some terrorist attack to somewhere that all muslims are terrorrists. Please download quran’s englisg vertion read it. after then you will be able to know how islam is peasfull, aa one thing more yeah Islamics people don’t usually marry to non-muslims, but, they can marry if those girls or men accept Islam.

  19. i think comments about buddhism are good.buddhism really teaches us to be peaceful and happy individually and socially helps achieve better goals. but bit impractical for everyone as it concerning about leaving pleasures that influences the mind in society, which is the key factor that attaches an individual to society through interpersonal relations which again influences the mind like a loop.Islam (quran) is a code set to become a rebel against the arrogance and misuse of the idealism for the sake of profits racism.
it is a set of instructions delivered through a man so that society (at that time those who suffered from injustice and slavery) could stand as one to conquer the injustice..but it has to be modified accordingly to the changes in society as present and past situations are different so misunderstanding the quran made all these possibilities such as attacks and prophet made it difficult to be changed by mentioning that he was tha last and its the code by god to all. however majority of the code is nice but a few which are to be interpreted well rather than changed so that propht words stands forever. but its bit difficult for that religion as creativity and educational standards are suppressed in that religion in major areas. but some are very good following islam and make it really modern belief for the society for productive life..so here comes the actual thing
every religion is good but misusing and misinterpretation of the believes made it threatening to others and chances of misusing and misinterpretation are same in every religion as a random probability, but consequences of them are very bad and threatening in islam as it describes self protection in a violent way.
so in my view it is subjective reference that lead one to decide which raligion is better.

  20. It’s a matter of faith. If someone is a true muslim, he would simply pray five times and meditate upon any of the 99 names mentioned in their holy book. But the problem occurs when muslims think that they must carry on spreading islam by force. If the supreme almighty God would wish to punish some infidel(disbeliever), he would do it by his own inexplicable means. It is not a muslim person’s job to convert others. They can share their beliefs but not enforce them on others. Also political figures in islamic worlds misuse the word “jihad” and motivate/force people to become terrorists.”Jihad” means to control/eliminate your own inner evils, not other people’s evil.It translates into “to strive for”.Meditation is not specific to Buddhism.Anyone can accept the religion that suits.Muslims believe theirs is the only true religion. Now it’s not wrong to believe so but enforcing such a belief upon a hindu/buddhist is wrong. Also it’s a matter of conscience about following all sharia laws or not.”Allah” in islam is not a reigional god’s name.It simply means “The God”, the supreme, omnipotent, all knowing, universal, merciful God.That supreme God sees what is the intent of a person in his deeds. That God can forgive foolish mistakes of judgement but not willful errors or sins.I believe if a muslim does good deeds with full conscience and follows prayers with faith, then he is better than a buddhist.I also believe a buddhist is better than one religion obsessed violent fanatic muslim.I have experienced betrayal from a muslim friend who justified it because I am not a muslim. Now, I certainly know he will be punished by Allah/God/Rabb/ParamIshwar, whatever you call him/?(free of gender). But, not all muslims are terrorists. One can be alert but stereotyping is never correct.Personally, I believe He simply wanted to create something and it was.Now that’s ‘my’ belief. If buddhists don’t like it, devout muslims must care less.May God forgive your trespasses and mine too, essentially.
    [[God is Greater]]

  21. Its very simple to find the difference- we dont have to read any holy book,
just check the way of writting comments in here. Muslims in here they talk about peace in a harsh ,rude and with no respect to others, and we can clearly see their anger. I haven’t read any holy book but just imagine u sitting next to Buddhist Prist and Islamic Prist, where u can feel the peace ??? Who cares what’s in Quran or Buddhist holy book if u kill people and u dont have any humanities????

  22. Buddhism 101:
Life is suffering, even when you think you are happy (from sense pleasure), you will eventually become unhappy when the sensation ends.

So you seek to repeat that ‘happy’ sensation (be it material goods or sensual pleasure) which creates an attachment. Thus, you are on a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows.

Buddhism aims to teach you how to release yourself (no need to believe in any gurus, charms, potions, chants, statues etc) from the attachments you have created in your mind.

Does it mean that Buddhism is all about self-denial, a boring life of meditating and eating yak butter flavoured barley mush?

    Of course not!

It aims to help you attain happiness through selfless compassion to all beings, to lead your life in a meaningful way.

It teaches you to become aware, to train your mind to eliminate negative conditions like jealousy, anger and hatred to see the world in an objective and logical light.

There is nothing to believe in Buddhism. It is about putting the principles into practice, all day, every day.

Going to the temple is not about worship, it is about reminding ourselves what we want to attain – a calm mind, doing good deeds and eventually releasing ourselves from attachment.

  23. Buddhist practice is based on logic and reason and Islam practice is based on punishment and reward. Buddha said his teachings are to be analized and not to accept just because he said so. Mohhamad said his teachings are God’s word so no questions asked. In Buddhism you asked question you learn. In Islam you ask question you go to hell.

    • well said bro

    • When I read what most people have to say about Islam it looks like they get their information from the news, just ponder a bit about the intention and goal of the news (I’m not talking about conspiracy theories here, read Neil Postman’s book “Amusing Ourselves to Death”)

Yes, the Buddha’s teachings were based on thinking about concepts in Buddhism, but it’s the same in Islam, one day one of the companions asked the Prophet (s), “Please make it permissible for me to fornicate!” Based on most people’s understanding of Islam you will think that he was beaten on the spot, but he was asked a question in regard to his request. The Prophet (s), asked the companion if he would like it if someone were to do that to his own daughter/mother or any other female in the family.

So both traditions are based on coming to moral convictions based on your logical thinking, just as the Sutra where the Buddha is asked which is the truth. What some people forget is that in Buddhism you also have to take some concepts as key in order to be a ‘Buddhist’ and essentially that is you must accept that you have a Buddha nature. What does that mean? Where are the concepts to be found, in a book that was written hundreds of years after the Buddha existed. So there are very divergent understandings of what Buddhism is, and people have done very unBuddhist things over this. ‘Everything is made from the mind alone’ Avatamsaka, ‘Faith is the mother of the Way’ Avatamsaka.

In Islam, there is the Quran and Sunna of our Prophet (s), which have been preserved, so when you talk about an orthodox understanding of Islam, yes there is when it comes to the very obvious understandings of what G-d is in Islam. In that it’s dangerous to ask questions in the Mosque, it’s just a sign of the poor state of our community as Muslims is in at this time, questions have been allowed to ask in the mosques I have visited in the States and other countries.

In answering to your Buddhism: logic & reason, Islam: Punishment & reward. Ask yourself this, why is there the concept of birth and death in Buddhism and then there is karma that we have created and if you do bad it will come back to you. Does this not harness some kind of fear of morally corrupt behavior? Ultimately, we should do good deeds for our fear of Allah, but also for our love of Him. Just as in many traditions, fear serves as a catalyst for some, for others nothing will ever work. Please reassess the Buddhism you believe in, if it’s just books, then get in touch with the tradition that you espouse to believe in. If you’re in the tradition, then they are leaving out some vital parts of the religion.

Last in point, Buddhism never had an external threat so powerful that it would have been wiped away, and on top of that it’s a tradition that sees to leave the social world in some way. There are no real political implications in Buddhism, except that in the Sangha, Shakyamuni did give advice in some Sutras to the rulers, but he never really advocated any kind of political system. Islam on the other hand was dealing with real threats from tribes that were bent on destroying them, so it had to deal with these things in a real dynamic way. Read the biography of the Prophet (s), Islam is not a one tonal religion, we are called to peace whenever possible, even at our own expense at times, but we are also told to fight. It’s not black and white, so read, understand the tradition in its holistic being and read into any tradition that humans will make decisions not the tradition.

      • Buddhism and Islam have nothing in common. Your analogies are false. “Islam had to defend itself from people who wanted to destroy it”? My dear, it is quite the opposite. Islam from the beginning set out to destroy others, to steal and rob from them, to drive them out, all so your dear leader and his followers could make money. Islam is not just religion: it is political. It continues today: Muslims must do the hajj, which of course, generates tremendous revenue for the Saudi Arabs. No other religion does that. Christians are not required to go to Rome or other religious places, neither are Buddhists, to be considered “complete.”
When you Muslims say things like “Islam is a complete guide to the way of life” that is the exact problem: a way of life based on Arabic culture in the 7th century, full of war, misogyny, and hatred of others.

        • Peace

Please where is it that the two religions don’t match in concepts concerning reward and punishment? We may not use the same words, but the concern that our human experiences may lead us to do wrong things, therefore creating states and/or set up conditions for us to pay for wrong doings…?

Islam from it’s conception was calling to a god different from the ones worshiped at Mecca, the One Who doesn’t need intermediaries, the One Who has no beginning nor end. Our Prophet (s) was calling to a religion hailing back to Abraham’s time, basically the residents of Mecca fought against that message going to extremes like killing Muslims and blocking off any trade going to them for years. Now when you talk about Muslims stealing and robbing, when did this start? In Mecca within the first ___ years? Is that how Islam started? ‘Go steal… oh yeah, believe in the One God of the Universes.’

If you’re reading Pamela Geller and all the other Islamophobes, then that is the reality you are building for yourself. Just don’t be narrow-minded and invest all your time in reading the literature that backs up your already made up opinion of Islam.

BTW, China has lots of native Muslims, so there will be no cold war against Muslim states any time soon… sorry.

  24. Anybody that includes muslim can visit Buddist temple anywhere in the world. No buddhist can visit any mosque without endengering their life. Muslims have won the fight of ignorant agianst Buddhism but they can never win the fight of wisdom. This world could turn into Islamic world but muslims will ruin themselve at the end. Logical reasons: Muslims are growing every year because of their mission of conversion and being highest rate of giving birth in the world. They are not allowed to do any kind of birth control because it is against thier religion so world population will grow like crazy. Even everybody in the world are muslim they will fight against each other for resources and that will be the end of world. Their God will not be able safe them at that time.

  25. Islam is busy in increasing quantity whras, buddhist in quality. Budhism dsnt believe in god.

  26. I don’t understand how this is even an argument, but in any case why don’t proponents of Islam put their money where their mouth is. I could write an entire book badmouthing Buddhism and have it published and I could bet anything that nothing would happen to me or anyone else doing it. On the other hand if you want to test the “religion of peace” Islam, go ahead and draw a picture of Mohammad, or really just draw a picture of anything and call it Mohammad (like the bear suit in South Park) and see what happens. Everyone knows what will happen to you in both cases, so why do people blatantly lie claiming Islam is a religion of peace. There is nothing peaceful about its doctrine, the people practicing it or how that cancer was originally spread. News companies will not publish criticisms of Islam, and it’s not because they’re worried about people’s feelings; it’s because they don’t want to die.

    • In the first place why write a book badmouthing a religion? I know your reply is rhetorical, but the basis of your argument is ludicrous, write a book just to badmouth Islam or any other tradition? In the west there are plenty of books that bad mouth Islam and our Prophet (s), on top of that news media does report the things that happen in Islamic countries. How did you get your ideas? By going to the said countries to witness it yourself?

My brothers and sisters do overreact to some things, but that is because we love this deen (religion) which is the Path to G-d. If I slander your mother, father, brother or sister, are you not going to have any reaction? That’s how dear we hold to our deen or religion.

I’m not sure if you were referring to what I wrote as the ‘argument’ in question… I’ve written very little on the internet, but when I write a response to something slandering Islam there is always someone whose reply is just to write off the comment and not speak to the point. In reference to our reactions at people defaming our religion, I realize that we (Muslims) haven’t really embodied the prophetic principle of patience… we never claimed perfection=)

Read books, not just news clippings, read the history of Islamic countries, read the biography (not some piece that is trying to paint a distorted picture) of our Prophet (s) and literature that talks about the deeply spiritual people that called this religion their own. If you want to just look at the ugly and political, then yes this tradition doesn’t look like the religion of peace. On the other hand, if you look at the tradition as a whole, there is a lot that it can give humanity and that peace becomes apparent when a person wants to give themselves to their Creator.

Once more, the Islamic tradition is dynamic, it had to deal with people who were bent on destroying it. Buddhism was supported by the government during Shakyamuni Buddha’s time, these are different circumstantial basis for which both religions had grown in. Do you get it? Does that sound like an argument?

      Peace

      • First of all, why badmouth Islam or religion? This is the most insane question someone could possibly ask. First of all freedom of speech and questioning/criticizing bad ideas is the driving force of progress in society and hence why most oppressive middle eastern countries are hundreds of years behind or almost completely leech all of their technology from the free world. Second of all, all I am doing is criticizing and wishing to give everyone the right to do the same for any idea, unlike the muslim world which resorts to violence and oppression to any ideas against their religion. The right to criticize a completely retarded idea like most religions is not asking much as far as freedoms go.

Telling people to go to a middle eastern country doesn’t help your cause either and won’t help to inform anyone as to just how civilized they are over there. I have only lived in the more moderate islamic countries (Bahrain for 2 years total, been to UAE and Kuwait), but even so you still have to deal with Islamic theocratic law (especially during stupid ramadan). What’s funny is how you people argue how civilized muslims are to the rest of the world when they can’t even get along with themselves between the different sects of Islam, yet alone the rest of the world.

What is your point with listing all those books by the way? Yes books criticizing Islam exist. Are any of those books allowed to be sold or owned in fundamental parts of the middle east? No. If you search for most of those authors they all have had legitimate death threats as well, so you have only furthered my point. You say your brothers overreact like I would if someone slandered my parents, or siblings. What a disgusting, vile human being you must be to reduce these to normal or slight over reactions.

No matter what someone has to say about my family I, nor any other normal person would shoot someone eight times then go on to mutilate their body by attempting to decapitate them and stabbing them repeatedly like the Muslim who killed filmmaker Theo Van Gogh who criticized Islam. Or the slight overreaction by thousands of muslims around the world to the Danish cartoon depicting Mohammed where riots ensued, rewards were posted for the killing of the cartoonist by religious leaders (Haji Yaqoob Qureishi, a minster in India offered a $11 million reward for the decapitation of the cartoonist), and various acts of terrorism were planned in Denmark. Every day you open the paper there is another story of someone being murdered for stupid minor offenses like adultery, apostasy or even being raped. Furthermore, there are entire websites devoted to cataloging these incidents so my headline news examples aren’t isolated incidents.

Are people scared about this death cult? Of course they are! Why would Viacom censor the episode of South Park with Mohammed in a bear suit? Not because they care about people’s feelings, especially when they have gotten away with insulting every other religion out there. The only reason was because they didn’t want to die, and same applies for all the news networks that refused to show the Danish cartoon on air. If you are truly peaceful as you claim, then why would you possibly defend this stuff. Why do most muslims write it off as “just extremists” when entire governments condone many barbaric acts mentioned in the Quran.

I think the whole peace thing is just a mask though since Buddhists and Jains don’t seem to have any problems regarding violence around the world. It sucks that you are kind of stuck with Islam though since your own beliefs call for the death of apostates. Then again you people just make up whatever you want and only follow your crappy doctrines as much as you want since it’s all a figment of your imagination which you make your holy texts conform to. That’s why all religious people have a different view/interpretation and can never get along with each other because your imaginary friend is better than theirs.

        • I guess I could reply to your arguments one by one, but all in all you’re antagonism is blaring and unsettling. I just suggest that you stop looking at the negativity of any religion and try to look at it’s positive side, along with keeping a critically open perspective on what you are reading along with it’s source. As with all things that are in creation, man has ways to put their own will (whether it be humanitarian or otherwise) into whatever comes their way. Science and modern society is of no acceptation, with corporate funding taking over science projects and using those findings to make profit, there is plenty of greed and corruption that takes place.

I do give on your first argument, but I would suggest that the wording be changed, yes in an open society it’s beneficial to look at certain ideologies and take a stark critical look at the roots and branches of that phenomenon and extract the sweet fruits and discuss the bitterness that may come of it too. Bad mouthing brings too much of a harsh unwavering sense of indignity and hate, and in question to how you refer to religious ideas as ‘retarded’ is not a healthy kind of questioning, why throw out the baby with the bath water?

Open your heart and mind to the fact that there is a Creator, a Divine will that runs this whole thing, no matter the name. In the end we will all be accounted for our actions, no matter faith, creed or political leanings =). Take some quiet time to contemplate on creation.

I wish you the best of luck on this journey.

      • Islam hasn’t changed much because the Arabs are some of the most uncreative people in the world. While if muslims from other parts of the world make creative reforms then these Arabs quickly declare them as unislamic. So now basically the entire muslim world is a place where lateral thinking and reforms are barred. its also impossible to syncretize islamic faith with other faiths so that new cultures and societies are formed, because the Arabs have no intention of letting Islam slip out of their hand. This way the Arabs are ensured a free supply of fanatic zealots, suicide bombers and basically plain Jihadi nuts which they can use whichever way they want. They have zombie’fied these people to an extent that they have been distructing their own history and past (Afganistan/Pakistan/Maldives) just to live the Arab history.

i got this from http://comparative-religion-points.blogspot.com so if u want more refer that blog

  28. Before writing such an article the Author should be aware on the accountability of the content. This comparison is a defective one.

Where Islam is based on…, Buddhism is based on the Doctrine of the Buddha. But according to the doctrine of Buddha, every individual is encouraged to use their own intellect and wisdom to figure out what the teachings mean for them.

” Don’t blindly believe what I say. Don’t believe me because others convince you of my words. Don’t believe anything you see, read, or hear from others, whether of authority, religious teachers or texts. Don’t rely on logic alone, nor speculation. Don’t infer or be deceived by appearances.
Do not give up your authority and follow blindly the will of others. This way will lead to only delusion.

Find out for yourself what is truth, what is real.

Discover that there are virtuous things and there are non-virtuous things. Once you have discovered for yourself give up the bad and embrace the good.”

“My teaching is not a philosophy. It is the result of direct experience…
My teaching is a means of practice, not something to hold onto or worship.

My teaching is like a raft used to cross the river.
Only a fool would carry the raft around after he had already reached the other shore of liberation.”

    - The Buddha

Five Pillars of Islam can not be compared with the two major branches of Buddhism. When talking about Mahayana and Theravada, Sunni Islam and Shia Islam might be taken in to account. The five precepts of Buddhism known as panchsheel might be modest when talking about the five Pillars of Islam BUT the precepts are not formulated as imperatives, but as training rules that laypeople undertake voluntarily to facilitate practice.

There isn’t a ‘God’ in Buddhism who creates and runs the universe (omnipotent)

In Buddhism, karma specifically refers to those actions of body, speech, and mind that spring from mental intent (“chethana”), and brings about a consequence or fruit, (phala) or result (vipāka).

    • @Kartoos – Thankyou! Finally, someone that understands Buddhism better than the author, and so many others too. The two branches of Buddhism quoted are not branches at all, they have been mislabelled for a long time. Therevada is a cultural derivative that has adapted to certain cultures (Thai, Sri Lankan, etc.). It could be compared to Zen, which grew to adapt to the Japanese culture.

“Mahayana” means “great vehicle”, a faster way to reach enlightenment than “Hinayana” or “lesser vehicle”. There is a third way – “Vadrayana” – “diamond vehicle”, considered the fastest of all, but generally only taught and practised in Tibetan Buddhism.

It is written in Buddhist texts (too) that Islam will conquer the world before a great (probably internal, meaning in one’s mind/heart) battle between Islam and Buddhism. Apparently, Buddhism wins.

  29. After reading all the news of ‘Buddhist Terrorism’ in Myanmar against the Rohangiya, I am ashamed to call myself a Buddhist now.

It is better to support the victims than to support the murderer Monks in saffron robes.

And no one should blame Islam from now for the terrorist acts for those who are honest are those who didn’t got an opportunity to be dishonest.

So sorry but now I regard Muhammad was great as Buddha and even more than him.

    • if you are talking about the pictures of tibetan monks with the bodies of china earthquake victims, which some online jihadist has posted as burmese monks slaughtering bangladeshi muslims then you are for a rude shock.
There is no buddhist islamic battle in burma. The problem is entirely different. The same Bangladeshi/origin people involved in burma clashes are involved in violent clashes in India’s Assam, West Bengal and North eastern states. Basically all the neighbouring countries of bangladesh are fighting with the tremendous infiltration of Bangladeshis in their land.
Now the reason for infiltration from bangladesh is because their our population has exploded way beyond their means. The goverment when it tried to barr child marriages, the Mullahs of Bangladesh went crazy as they felt banning child marriage will make the conduct of their Prophet Muhammed of marrying a nine year old girl as unlawful !! So now this unchallenged population growth is forcing people to migrate out of Bangladesh and enter bordering countries. India has done everything in past decades to check its own population browth and now people are having only 1 or maximum 2 children. But these new immigrants have entered with trains and trains of babies. Every nook and crook and drain and hill has been occupied by them. Ofcourse its a stealing of resources which are allready scarce and its also sending the wheel of development in the wrong direction. Clashes and racial tensions are bound to happen as people have not shared the responsibility of checking the human population growth.
In short what my post reads is that the clashes that happen in burma or in india are not religious but are because of increased pressure on local resources because of large scale immigration from Bangladesh. Secondly that large scale immigration is happening because their goverment has been made incapable of controlling their population because of interference from Islamic Mullahs.

      • You are absolutely right. It is much more about different people, culture, nationality than religion. The “rohingya” could be Christian, and the Burmese reaction would be the same. The problem also goes back to British colonial times. The British brought a lot of South Asians into Burma to work for them, but they were over the Burmese, so the Burmese people were very resentful of them. The Burmese said that the South Asians were the slaves of the British, but that they-the Burmese-were the slaves of the slaves. At the end of WW2, the Burmese drove out 100,000 South Asians, and murdered some of them. Most went back to India, some went to Thailand, but a few stayed in Burma, and were later joined by people from Bangladesh who are trying to justify their illegal presence in Burma by saying they have been there since the British times.

  30. The information in this article on Buddhism is incorrect, also. God was never introduced into Buddhism at it’s later stages. Nor is there the belief in salvation in Buddhism – that seems to be a Christian term. Karma has nothing to do with eternal life.

It appears that whoever wrote this article didn’t know anything about Buddhism or Islam.

  31. I’m glad to see the comments of such an intellectual and open minded personalities who have pleasant view on Buddhism. At the same time feels sorry about the extremist Islamists. Seems like their mind will not be independent and open till the end of their lives. But I hope all may be well and happy…!
    Thank you.

  32. Buddhism is not based on the creator god…Even Buddha did not create things.. He taught people to live in a good and peace way.. And each and every persons are responsible for their faults..If there is a creation from god, why create bad guys, starvation, disasters, raids and things like that.. This is nonsense..So i believe Buddhism is the peace and good way to choose…

  33. One question why Muslims can’t live without killing animals? can’t they see the pain that animal suffer when they are being killed??

  34. Religion is the mother of devil mind.

GOD never speaks! Can you prove, God is speaking to certain people or communities? No, Never. It is an illusion of human mind. Most of the religion books in this earth written in primitive age and there is no authenticated prove of God had given any holly massages to human being. Instead certain holly man (Profet or Messenger of God) realized of existence of God and received holly massages. Those massages are nothing but all myth. Prophet or Messenger of God had realized the nature of mankind and all holy massages are masterminded by talented Prophet to save human race. Most of the holy massages are about rules and regulation of our society, ethic, living and rest are edited by their disciples to follow those massages or else severe punishment will be verdict after death. Talented Prophet had discovered artificial parallel world namely Haven and Hell. ‘Haven’ for follower of rules and regulation and ‘Hell’ for those who does not obeying those rules and regulation. This is practically not possible. Prophet knew that all human will be not going to follow his massages. So, to restrict those atheists, not to get influenced to his followers, he introduced ‘Jehad’ or ‘Holly war’ or sociological myth etc etc, with iron hand.

It is unfortunate, after thousands years of updating knowledge by human race, still we human civilization following all those old, mythical, fantasies, unnatural ‘holly massages’ and in the name of holly religion – formation of hatred, war, communal violence, gender discrimination, genocide, animal sacrifice, corruption etc in our daily life.

About my introduction, I am an atheist… not Muslim nor Buddhist …

  35. Muslim is only based on beliefs and there is no scientific and social value at there. there are very narrow minded and always living with fear to allah.
They justify everthing by saying thats allah’s wish. even father can rape her daughter and say thts destiny and its allah’s wish. They are very extreme and don’t respect others. 90% of muslims are terrorists and 10% of them are good. when it comes to budhists and christians 90% of them are good but 10% bad people are there. Thats the major difference between those three

    • How old are you?

Your arguments are half baked and based on numbers that magically appear from nowhere. Christians and Buddhists have beliefs that are steeped in their religious experience and some of them aren’t scientific. So far as the social value of Islam, there are plenty, please read a book.

If a Muslim man rapes his daughter, then he is far from Islam and that act would be a major sin, can’t happen if a person truly fears Allah! So your argument is faulty at best, a person with belief in Allah and His Messenger would understand our dealings in this world and Allah’s judgments.

I hope the best for you.

      • “Belief in Allah”and talking about science :-) . Muslims destroyed ancient Buddhist cultural site of Bamiyan. what wrong did Buddhism do you guys? or is it that Quran teaches you to be really bad pigs every once in a while.

        • I get it, you don’t like Islam or Muslims, can you write something without using name calling?

Ok, I didn’t put ‘Belief in Allah and science’… so I don’t know where you are going with that. I’m just pointing out the logic in a person’s argument, that’s all.

The locals of Bamiyan didn’t want to destroy those statues, some of them were forced to do so by people who had it in their mind to destroy the Bamiyan statues. Those people are Muslim. So, are they also bad Muslims too?

If my country flies drones around different countries and bombs suspected terrorists along with totally innocent people, does that make all American people bad? Western Europeans too?

In respect to the Bamiyan situation, it’s too bad, in the rules of religion that grew out of Islam expanding it’s territories, my understanding is that we are to respect other’s religions. The verses talking about destroying those idols of Mecca were specific to the time of our Prophet (s), this is what I was taught and my understanding.

  36. It is better for everyone wants to compare between Islam and Buddhism , to read and read more not to judge without knowledge. what is reputed about Islam nowadays is that it is a religion based on violence. But when shedding light on Islam,s instructions, anyone will discover the opposite. Non- Muslim people focus on some Qur’an verses which are discussing specific situations and specific time might include specific interpretation. In order to judge about something whatever it is, It is required to look at it from the whole aspects (that’s to be fare). Everything in life and every system includes an aspect that might be severe, and on the other hand an aspect that is nice and not strict(that’s to be neutral). many people might look at Islam with a look that isn’t fare at all. I recommend them to read Islam honestly with scientific judgment style. I promise them to understand that Islam is the religion of peace.

  37. If you are an atheist, why are you busy with these people who follow myth??? The reaility is that you feel a sense of guilt that is hiddin in you heart. do you think that you are on the surface by an accident?? Do you think that your hand that is writating is something designed by an accident?? If you have the minimum logic you wouildn’t believe that this whole universe with all this sophistication is a kind of coinscedence. how comes?? I wonder!!!!! don’t discuss anything until you discuss the most important thing at the first place>>> How is this universe created?? How is your body wtith its organs and its systems designed?? how is this world designed for these 6 billion people to live in whith this precise system?? If you answer these questions. then, go fot profets and primitive ages and anything else to try to convince your self that you are right. I am religios and I believe in god. I believe that after dying, I will go for hereafter(another life). Logically I believe in that not because I am stupid or because I believe in myth, but because I use my mind and I understand that I am not here for no reason but there is a god who created me to test me. But you don’t understand why you are here!! you don’t have goals!! you are lost as simple as that!!

  39. Why Muslim people died in Makkah?, is it a wish of Allah? if he is the creator, he would have saved those people, sorry if this is an insult, just wanted to let you know there is a logic between death and the birth rather than believing of a creator :) , Muslim brothers ,come out from your box, and think about a possible way how man kind was created( in a scientific way) ,

  40. Nice to know about your thought, we born in this earth because in the surface of earth have sufficient water, Air, solar light etc climate for birth of living being. No human can live in Moon, Venous, or any other planets in the solar system because the condition does not fulfill. But one day human belief might allow living in those planets in scientific way, not in by magic or myth. About our physical anatomy, not came in one day. It took million years to evolve and still it is changing.

  41. Dear “read and discover”

I will defiantly read all those books but let me tell you, it is my request please read Buddhist book also. the above comparison is not correct except Islam philosophy.

    Thank you…

  42. “If you are an atheist, why are you busy with these people who follow myth??? The reaility is that you feel a sense of guilt that is hiddin in you heart. do you think that you are on the surface by an accident?? ”

Ans: Interestingly, I have no guilty and my mind is pure. I love peace and all living being.

“Do you think that your hand that is writating is something designed by an accident?? ”

Ans: Our hand is not written by any one, it is line create at the time of we borne and it form because we fold our hand just like a pc of paper we fold.

“If you have the minimum logic you wouildn’t believe that this whole universe with all this sophistication is a kind of coinscedence. how comes??”

Ans: Our Scientist are trying to prove and many thing to still to discover. Let us make world peaceful and you will see the reason for origin of universe authentically accept by you and all human being.

” How is your body with its organs and its systems designed?? ”

Ans: Interesting question! Do you know, the Darwin’s Theory…. you will get ans in “Evolution” …

how is this world designed for these 6 billion people to live in whith this precise system??

Ans: Our mother earth has given all the suitable condition for survival of 6 billion people and other living being.

    Thank you Sir… I have ans… all your question … Please don’t mind …

  43. Why religious people are fighting?

  44. buddhist dont believe in God and certainly not Mahayanist

  45. All religions were created by man as the first laws to set common boundaries for people to work with and understand. I.e. Shall not kill, etc.

Religion came in the following order: Pagans, Hindu, Buddhist, Judaism, Christianity then Islam. All following the basic “laws”.

Its man/woman that interprets these “laws” to their own will…

If God created the universe and people with their own minds, do you think he/she would want to hear your prays and see your fitting all the time. Get off your asses and doing sometime good to a fellow human being, even if its something small.

All this hate for nothing… :(

  46. Allah must be a cum drifting piece of life to create so much life eh :D the sillies

  47. Josie,
Islam is no exception. Christianity had done the same with the minorities everywhere in the past. Even the Jews had done the same with the Christians while they were in power. Jesus would have chosen another way to die and not a shameful and horrific worldly termination, if Christians consider his death, a part of his divine mission! It was just the might of Jew persecution that he lost his life so early.
In Spain before the Muslim conquest, the Jews were subjected to the harshest treatment at the hands of the people of Christ. Even today in the Christian majority nations, the Gays and non Christians are a subject of open as well as clandestine ill-treatment.
The west had never produced a single theocracy that benefited the humanity at large.

  48. Josie, only fools can subscribe to your notion of ‘spreading the religion with a sword’. It is not possible to change someone’s heart at the gunpoint, only the names and way of worshiping could be pretended to be of the gun-pointers, if in the case, may be!
Religion is basically a tradition that comes from the family up-bringing and gets inculcated in the senses. The South-Asian Muslims are the result of Uppercast Hindu persecution of the ‘proletariat’ of their times who realized their liberation in the great teachings of Islam, of whom, the equality of fellow beings (read Brotherhood) and the respect for womanhood being the most charming ones.
The today’s Islam may be a victim of the ambitiousness mighty elements, but it indeed had set a revolution in the past.
Better to read history without prejudicial sense.

  49. Islam does not teach mualims to hate non-muslims.the ayah which you quote fron qur’an was correct but you are quoting this ayah out of context.if you read it’s description, you’ll come to know that it was for those non muslims who are against muslims and for whom who killed muslims in battle field.it is just like,in a battle field ,commander orders their soldiers to kill enemies.Quran also says to their believers that if they want peace than not even leave them but take them to the safe place so that no one can harm them.if you really don’t know anything about islam than stop publishing such rubbish things.qur’an also says that deaf, dumb and blind will never understand and you are one of them.
    Thanks

  50. My question is!!!
If you don’t believe in God than how this world came into being and for what reason we are here.we believe in bible but bible has been changed and it is not word of God anymore.according to science 80% of the qur’an is 100% correct and 20% is ambiguous either correct or not correct.science is not reached upto that level to prove that either heaven or hell exist, angels and jinn(ghosts) exist .I believe if 80% of the qur’an is 100% accurate than 20% would alao

  51. Would also be correct.

  52. Then when the Sacred Months (the Ist, 7th, 11th, and 12th months of the Islâmic calendar) have passed, then kill the Mushrikûn (see V.2:105) wherever you find them, and capture them and besiege them, and prepare for them each and every ambush. But if they repent and perform As-Salât (Iqâmat-as-Salât), and give Zakât, then leave their way free. Verily, Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.[]
    6.
And if anyone of the Mushrikûn (polytheists, idolaters, pagans, disbelievers in the Oneness of Allâh) seeks your protection then grant him protection, so that he may hear the Word of Allâh (the Qur’ân), and then escort him to where he can be secure, that is because they are men who know not.

  53. SEE SURAH TAUBAH,CHAPTER 9 VERSE NO. 5 AND 6 FROM HOLY QUR’AN.IN VERSE NO. 6 , ALLAH SAYS THAT IF THEY (NON MUSLIMS) SEEK PROTECTION FROM YOU (MUSLIMS),TAKE THEM TO SAFE PLACE.IT IS EXPLAINATION OF THIS VERSE.

  54. Churchill on Islam in 1899. What he said is as true now as then:

“How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property – either as a child, a wife, or a concubine – must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the faith: all know how to die but the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome.”

  55. in my opinion as a muslim i think buddhist is absolutely an amazing philosophy i mean both are good besides every other religion
