Difference Between Samsung Galaxy S II and LG Optimus 2X

Samsung Galaxy S II vs LG Optimus 2X

Just as computers progressed to multiple core processors, smartphones are also doing the same thing in the push to have greater processing power without increasing the heat generated and the power consumed. Two of the newest smartphones to feature dual cores processors are the improved Galaxy S II from Samsung and the aptly named Optimus 2X. The first thing difference between the two that you are likely to notice is the size of the screen. The Galaxy S II screen measures 4.3 inches while that of the Optimus 2X is still quite large at 4 inches. With screens, bigger simply better as it lets you see more without zooming in or squinting.

Another major difference between the two is the amount of memory, both RAM and storage memory. The Galaxy S II has a gigabyte of RAM and either 16 or 32 gigabytes for storage. In comparison storage space on the Optimus 2X is just up to 8GB, though that’s not really much of a problem as both devices have a microSD expansion slot. The bigger problem with the Optimus 2X is the 512MB of RAM. Although it is good enough for most functions, there are areas where more would be needed as illustrated below.

Both the Galaxy S II and the Optimus 2X have 8 megapixel snappers that are pretty close to each other in terms of still quality. But when you go into video recording at 1080p, the Optimus 2X can only manage 24fps while the Galaxy S II can maintain 30fps. This is down to the lack of memory of the Optimus 2X. With the front facing cameras, the Galaxy S II maintains the advantage with a slightly better 2MP camera compared to the 1.3MP on the Optimus 2X.

Lastly, both phones are equipped with dual-core Cortex A9 processors. But the one on the Galaxy S II is clocked higher at 1.2GHz compared to the 1GHz speed on the Optimus 2X. This results in a performance difference that can be clearly seen in benchmarks and felt during heavy use. Overall, the Galaxy S II seems to be the better phone; not that the Optimus 2X is a bad one.

Summary:

1.The Galaxy S II has a bigger screen than the Optimus 2X
2.The Galaxy S II comes with more memory than the Optimus 2X
3.The Galaxy S II has better cameras than the Optimus 2X
4.The Galaxy S II processor is better than the Optimus 2X
