Difference Between Alcoholics and Addicts

Alcoholics vs Addicts

More and more people are becoming alcoholics and addicts each and every day. Most of the time it can be seen that drinking is dangerous when it crosses the limit of moderate or social drinking. Alcoholics, alcoholism and addicts are different terms related to alcohol.

Both alcoholics and addicts almost show the same signs. Both the alcoholics and addicts have more similar characteristics. They are both crazy for the drinks. The only difference is that the addict wants the drinks on a regular basis and the alcoholic wants more drinks.

Alcoholic is a condition when the body craves for more drinks. An alcoholic person will go on drinking once he starts it. An alcoholic will not be able to control his drinking. On the other hand, addiction can be termed as an emotional and physical dependency on alcohol. An addict is a person whose body has lost the ability to tolerate alcohol. An addict feels that he or she needs alcohol on a regular basis.

Some of the signs that are noticed with addicts include; non-stop alcohol use even if one comes across repeated psychological, physical or interpersonal problems, inability to limit the drinks and physical illness once drinking is stopped.

In case of alcoholics, they crave for more alcohol. They want more and more pegs to get the feeling that they have drunk. If an alcoholic stops drinking suddenly, he may come across nausea, sweating, shivering and anxiety. A progressive debilitating condition, alcoholics lose their control over the drinks; it is the alcohol that controls them rather than they control the drinks.
