“The two units are also used in scientific experiments when there is a need for exact and minute measurements. As units of measurements, they are often used to cite measurements in scientific literature.”: WRONG: The scientific community uses the SI (international system of units). The mg is not an abbreviation, it is a symbol attained by international agreement, a sub multiple of the gram, with m = milli a valid prefix for 1/1000. “mcg” simply does not exist in the SI (the international system of units), makes no sense, and leads to big confusion that could kill someone: c would mean centi = 1/100, but cannot appear together with another prefix. The correct would be micrograms writting in for or symbolically µg, µ = greek letter micro = micro = 1/1000 000 = mili / 1000. The symbol in the picture mcg/hr is completely wrong from the SI point of view: The symbol of the hour is simply “h”, not “hr”: One should read µg/h simply for hourly doses if writing in proper scientific manner.

Thanks. You have answered a question I have had for some time. When I see the results of my blood work it is often measured in ug. I didn’t know what that was. Also some of my meds are in mg’s And some in mcg’s. I can now convert my supplements to compare.

In the second paragraph you write, “A microgram is a millionth of a gram . . .” I believe you meant, “A microgram is thousandth of a gram.”

I have been on Norco for years 7.5/325mg. Now my doctor has prescribed me something called Belbuca 450mcg to help get me off of the Norco but still control my pain. Any idea which one of these would be stronger than the other one?

I take potassium. The bottle reads 20 mcq. I ran out and had to get over the counter potassium. They had 99 mg capsules. What do I need to take to get my 20 mcq tablets from the 99 mg?

    Thank you!

If the math thier giving us is .correct, 1200 MG = 1.2 grams, so 600 mcg would = .06 grams.if my math is right.
