Jersey cows and Holstein cows are popular and high-yielding breeds that produce more milk. These two breeds are a favorite of the farms.

What is a Holstein cow? These cows have their origin in the Netherlands. Holstein cows are either white or black with black-or-white patches on their bodies. These are large cows and give birth to healthy calves that could weigh 40 to 45 kg.

What is a Jersey cow? Jersey is a breed of cow that has gotten its name from the place of its origin. The name comes after Jersey Island in the British Channel where it was developed. These cows are reddish in color.

When comparing the two cows, a Holstein cow is heavier and larger than a Jersey cow. When a Jersey cow weighs around 350 to 550 kg., a Holstein cow weighs about 580 kg. Moreover, Jersey cows are smaller in size when compared to Holstein cows.

In milk production, Holstein cows produce more milk in their lifetime. While a Holstein cow produces an average of 19,000 pounds of milk in its lifetime, a Jersey cow produces an average of 13,000 pounds of milk in its lifetime. Another difference that can be seen between Jersey cows and Holstein cows is in the butterfat content. In butterfat content, Jersey cows score better than Holstein cows. A Jersey cow has about 4.7 per cent of butterfat content while a Holstein cow has about 3.7 per cent of butterfat.

It can also be seen that Jersey cows are more adaptable to hot climates.
