Difference Between ChatGPT and Google

Ever since San Francisco-based startup OpenAI launched an advanced AI powered chatbots called ChatGPT, it has been making strides globally. OpenAI has always been ahead of the game with generative AI, but this new text-based tool has all the signs of being a technological gamechanger. It took companies like Netflix and Facebook months to accomplish the same, but ChatGPT made it happen in just five days – 1 million users! ChatGPT has taken the world by storm since its release and has the search giant worried as artificial intelligence takes over the world. Let’s see how this AI-powered language model chatbot stands up to Google.

Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer, or simply called ChatGPT, is a powerful and advanced AI-powered chatbot developed by OpenAI, an American non-profit AI research company based in San Francisco. It was initially launched as a prototype on Nov. 30, 2022 and within a week it had started to gain tremendous response, garnering over a million users. Experts have speculated that ChatGPT has the potential to be a gamechanger and it may pose threat to Google. It is specifically designed for chatbots applications to help answer and respond to users’ queries and solve problems. ChatGPT is trained on a large dataset of human style responses and feedback from the internet. This enables ChatGPT to attain human like chat conversations and use natural language in a way that is very similar to how humans do. It uses a combination of massive amounts of data and machine learning algorithms to generate text that is virtually indistinguishable from human written text.

Like every big thing, it started with an idea. The story begins in 1995 in Stanford University when two college friends Larry Page and Sergey Brin started working on a computer program called BackRub – a search engine based on a link-ranking system to track and record data on the internet. In 1998, Larry and Sergey officially launched Google, which has become the world’s most used web-based search engine. Soon after, BackRub was renamed to Google. Larry and Sergey would have preferred to stay in school, but they created the most valuable new brand of the internet age. Propelled by Google’s extraordinary popularity, the entrepreneurs have made the top five on the Forbes 400 list of wealthy Americans. Today, Google is the world’s most popular internet search engine that offers 50+ internet services and products, from Gmail, Google Cloud, Google Chat, Google Workspace, and more.

Difference between ChatGPT and Google

– One of the main differences between ChatGPT and Google is how they work. So, Google is basically a search engine that scans the internet looking for URLs with the help of automated programs called web crawlers. Google maintains a huge database of billions of page URLs to look at later. Google has a large index of keywords to help determine search results. ChatGPT, on the other hand, is an AI-powered chatbot that uses a process called pre-training to understand the context of a conversation and generate responses. It uses natural language processing to understand and generate human language.

– The entire premise of ChatGPT is based on ease of use. It’s very simple to begin with – you just have to sign up with your email ID. Once you’ve registered with the website, the webpage is very simple to navigate. ChatGPT takes prompts or questions as inputs and generates responses in the most concise manner. You get the answer in the least words possible. Google is a search engine that does not have the same natural language processing capabilities like ChatGPT. Unlike ChatGPT, Google doesn’t give accurate answers; instead it returns different results all the time and leaves it to users to find the most appropriate answer.

ChatGPT vs. Google: Comparison Chart

ChatGPT undoubtedly has the potential to be a technological gamechanger, but it is still in its initial stages now, so its credibility cannot be future-proofed at this point. To say that ChatGPT can replace one of the world’s most used search engines is an overstatement, at least at this stage. Whether it can serve as an alternative to Google Search is still a debatable topic. That being said, the accuracy of ChatGPT has been under scanner since its initial release. And Google is still one of the most valuable brands in the world, a brand it built from the ground up.
