Amazing Spiderman vs. Ultimate Spiderman

For non-comic book readers the difference between the Amazing Spiderman and Ultimate Spiderman may merely be in the name, however for avid fans there are indeed differences between the names of the comic book legends. The character of Spiderman was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1963 and based the comic on the life of Peter Parker, a geek by day and a superhero with the abilities of a spider by night. The storyline is based around Peter Parker whose uncle is murdered for no reason and he seeks to find the killer by fighting all crime, all while trying to win the heart of Mary Jane Watson. There are many evil characters that Spiderman encounters along the way such as the Green Goblin, the Sandman, and Doctor Octopus. Spiderman utilizes his powers of agility, web creating and intelligence to outwit the villains in his comics.

The Amazing Spiderman is the title of the comics from 1963, and there are some still in production today. Writer Dan Slott was behind bimonthly issues of the comic till 2003, since then comics have periodically been released. The Amazing Spiderman began after 15 comics were released based on Spider-man and Marvel comic books realized that the 15 grossed more than almost any other comic book they published. The comic series saw character changes and decade changes consistently as though the comic were moving in time. The story begins in the 1940s and continues on while including new character and new villains along the way.

The Ultimate Spiderman was a new series from Spider-man which ran from 2000- 2009. This comic was different in that it was intended to be the modernized version of the classic character and the classic comic book. The Ultimate Spiderman comics also introduced some new characters to the original storyline Spider-woman, Richard Parker, and Carnage. Since the series was done later there is a new writer for the Ultimate Spiderman, Brian Michael Bendis. The artists also changed for the newer series, as some avid fans noted that the artistry was different.

While the storyline of the original creators is closely followed, there are only minor differences between the Amazing Spiderman and the Ultimate Spiderman. For avid fans there may seem to be large discrepancies with the changes, however the favorite character Spiderman and all the villains are still available in each series that is released.
Summary

1. Amazing Spiderman was the first in the series and ran for nearly 40 years. The Ultimate Spiderman is the modernized version of the comic and has run from 2000 to 2009.
2. The both forms of the superhero fought against classic villains such as Doctor Octopus, however there were new character additions to the Ultimate Spiderman series that were not in the first.
3. Both the Amazing Spiderman and the Ultimate Spiderman were based around the main character Peter Parker and his personal life, and the original storyline created by the first comic books from Marvel.
