Hip hop and Electro are two music genres. Both the music has now greatly influenced the modern society. Though people may find certain similarities and may even do not come up with a distinction between the two, they have many distinct features.

First of all talking about Electro, it is basically electronic music. The electro music has been directly influenced by the funk records. From the time of its beginning, it has been defined as a music of the drum machines. Well, with the advent of technology, the drum music has given way to computers, which are now more used.

Hip hop was actually a cultural movement. The music developed as on the influence of this cultural movement can be termed as hip hop music. The origins of Hip hop can be traced to Bronx, New York city, during the 1970s. Hip hop music has its traces to African Americans, which had a slight influence of the Latin Americans. From just being underground music, Hip hop has now turned into a very big movement. With hip hop music getting popularized, it has incorporated many iconic elements like DJing, break dancing, rapping, and graffiti art.

Hip hop is older than electro. While the electro music has its origins in the 1980s, the hip hop was born in the 1970s.

In the use of instruments, both the music genre uses almost the same kind of instruments. Some of the typical instruments used in electro include synthesizer, vocoder, drum machine and sampler. In hip hop, the instruments include turntable, vocals, synthesizer, drum machine, guitar, sampler and piano.

Electros became popular with the decline of disco music, which was so popular at that time. ‘Planet rock’ is considered a turning point in history of electro music. Hip hop music began to get popularized once the block parties became popular in New York.
