Different pans are used for different cooking methods. One can come across various pans such as a frying pan, sauté pan, and non-stick pan. Each of the pans has its uniqueness and is used for different cooking methods.

A frying pan is one that has sloping edges and that comes without a lid. A saute pan is one that has straight edges and with a lid over it. The sloppy edges help to prevent the buildup of steam in the pan. As a lid is used in a sauté pan, food is not spilled out when shaken.

When comparing the two pans, sauté pans are deeper and can hold more liquid than the frying pans. This makes the sauté pans better for stirring the food. On the other hand, it is easy to turn the food over inside a frying pan as it has sloppy edges.

Unlike the frying pans, sauté pans are used for cooking on high heat. Moreover, the sauté pan has a wide, flat bottom compared to the frying pan which distributes the heat evenly. In a frying pan, the things could be crowded in the middle as they have a shorter base. But the things are not crowded in a sauté pan as they have a wider bottom.

It is the wide bottom of a saute pan that helps in sautéing chicken and other meat without steaming or burning it. In a frying pan, the meat and other food items could get steamed or browned. When making sauce, a sauté pan is better as the liquid does not spill out from the sides.

Frying pans could be traced back to ancient Greece and Rome. The first copper frying pans can be traced to Ancient Mesopotamia. “Saute” is a word that has been derived from French “sauter” that means “to jump.”
