Difference Between HTC Desire and HTC Wildfire

HTC Desire vs HTC Wildfire

The HTC Desire and Wildfire are two more smartphones that run the Google Android operating system. The former was released last February of 2010 while the latter was released just three months later. The most noticeable difference between the two is probably the size, with the Wildfire being the smaller one and gained the moniker of mini-Desire. A lot of their features are pretty similar but there are still some that separate one from the other.

Since the Wildfire is smaller overall, it is also expected that the screen on the Wildfire is also smaller. It only measures 3.2 inches compared to the 3.7 inch screen of the Desire. Another key difference between the two is the type of screen that each one has. The Wildfire uses an LCD display that is common to many mobile phones. The Desire on the other hand, uses an AMOLED display. The AMOLED displays are said to be better at reproducing sharp colors compared to LCD screens because it produces its own light and does not rely on a backlight that would often washout the colors. LED does have its drawbacks though as it is not as resilient as LCD displays and there is the tendency of burn-ins.

Aside from the size and the screen, there Desire is also more superior when it comes to processing power. The Desire is equipped with a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm while the Wildfire is equipped with a 528Mhz processor from the same manufacturer. Aside from the processor, the Desire also has more RAM than the Wildfire. The Desire has 576MB of RAM while the Wildfire only has 384MB. The better processor and more memory make the Desire a better computing platform in its entirety than the Wildfire. This is a point for the Desire if you intend to purchase a lot of games and turn it into a portable gaming platform. The added accelerometer of the Desire is also another plus for gaming. A lot of games and even ordinary applications take advantage of the accelerometer to provide a totally different control by moving the entire device around.

Summary:

1. The Wildfire is slightly smaller than the Desire

2. The Wildfire LCD screen is smaller than the Desire’s LED screen

3. The Desire has a more powerful processor than the Wildfire

4. The Desire has more RAM than the Wildfire

5. The Desire is equipped with an accelerometer while the Wildfire is not
