Difference Between Nikon D40 and D60

nikonNikon D40 vs D60

The D60 is a Nikon SLR that improves on the earlier models like the D40. The biggest improvement of the D60 over the D40 is the higher quality sensor. The D60 is equipped with a 10 megapixel sensor while the D40 only has a 6 megapixel sensor, and you can deduce from that the D60 is capable of taking better pictures with more detail.

Aside from the sensor, there were also minor additions to the hardware that enhances the usability of the camera itself. The dust reduction system in the D60 reduces the possibility that dust particles reach the sensor by controlling the air flow. It also shakes dust off during start-up, shutdown, and even manually through the menu. An eye sensor is also equipped on the D60 that detects when the photographer is holding the camera close to his face. It would then automatically turn the LCD off, thereby reducing the amount of power that is consumed. The button added on top of the camera for D-lighting might be very minor but it adds t the convenience of using the camera. These hardware additions are not present in the D40.

The software of the D60 also had some upgrades. It is now capable of taking the pictures and automatically making a stop-motion movie out of them. You also have access to more retouching features in the camera itself like digital cross filters and color intensifying filter. You can activate its quick retouch feature if you don’t feel like taking the time to fiddle with the image. You are also given a little bit more freedom with the user interface as you can customize it to your liking. You can change the colors of the interface to a different one in case you grow tired of the default.
