The difference between a moisturizer and a cream is that the moisturizer is a particular kind of matter that is used for restoring moistness into the skin or surface whereas cream is made from oil and used as a lubricant to avoid friction. Creams block the moisture content of the skin whereas moisturizers are much lighter as compared to creams and are absorbed in the skin of the body.

Many moisturizers available the in market are usually used for cosmetic and therapeutic purposes. They produce desirable effects on the skin in case of water loss and are suitable for scaly or dry skin. Moisturizers also fall into the category of cosmetic product ranges designed and marketed for skin hygiene, dehydration and skin care. Dermatologists prescribe moisturizing products according to the ingredients required by the certain skin types which benefit the skin.
