It describes the differences between Act and Rule Utilitarianism well enough, but it sets up a false dichotomy that assumes that those are the only two forms of utilitarianism, and that they are mutually incompatible.

The school of Two-Level Utilitarianism attempts to unite the Act and Rule Utilitarianism schools, and other forms of Utilitarianism, such as Preference Utilitarianism exist.

(some discussion of which, is linked underneath).

I think this article could use some slight cleanup, to reflect the fact that there are more schools of utilitarianism than just “rule and act”, which I think would fix the major problems I see with this article.

If a country want people to live in harmony, they have to torture a child everyday. 1. Apply the Act and the Rule utilitarian in this case. 2. Which one do u choose?
