Rewards on the other hand are also recognition but it is a kind of acknowledgment to an individuals contributions. Rewards can also be said to be an encouragement to an individual.

Awards can also be called as a prize that is given away to individuals for their noteworthy activities. By getting an award, people approve that you have done something great. Awards can come in form of commemorative plaques, medals, trophies, certificates, titles, badges, pins and cash. Most of the time rewards is associated with money or a promotion.

Well, the award can be called as a reward for an individual’s effort.

While award is always associated with some positive things, reward is associated with good and bad things. It has also been noted that certain people may get reward for their evil activities.

Awards are publicly presented. Rewards, on the other hand, are only private or personal affairs. While awards get publicized, rewards are not. When awards are formal or public affairs, rewards are just the opposite.

Rewards are ‘given’ and awards are ‘awarded’. An award is a recognition that one gets after a decision in that regard has been taken by certain persons or judges or a committee of judges. But rewards are not taken as such and most of the time it is an individual who takes the decision.

A reward is something that is given for a person’s merit, service or hardship. But an award is a token given for merit.
