    Your report states, “The Social Security Administration uses data from the CPI-U to decide its annual rate of increase.”

    This is true but confessing since SSA uses CPI-W which is a subset of CPI-U.

    I think you should state that the Social Security COLA is based on the CPI-W.

    Barry is right, the SSA site still (Nov. 2015) confirms they are using CPI-W. This needs to be changed particularly in light of calls for SS reform.
