      Not true

      Summary
      1. Sport involves individual skills. In game, it is the collective responsibility of a team

Solo activities can be games. Solitaire or Mah Jong. These involve skill (individual) AND online games can be played by a team.

      2. Sport is based on physical energy and game based on mental strength.

Twister is a game that involves physical energy. Darts however…… Boxing is a sport and demands mental strength.

      3. Game relies on strategy, sport is based on individual performances and luck.

Some Gambling games dont involve any strategy and arguable luck. As a game KER PLUNK involves individual performance and luck.

      4. Sport is an activity or activities where the material capabilities of the sportsperson are looked upon. It is the entire performance of the players that determines the winner in a game.

Er……….. like boxing. And the entire performance of the team in a game does not apply to this. The team help (Corner etc) but its down to one guy…. and thats a sport.

The difference is more simple than stated in this piece; a game (of skill) is performed to attain a ‘win’ with as many participants as desired. A sport distinguishes itself by requiring an element of defense…in sports you can STOP your opponent…

That’s the dumbest….In most games you can stop your opponent too. In a game of soccer I can tackle you. In a game of dota I kill you.

What about a marathon. Is that a game? no? Then why can’t you stop me? Can you stop me from cliffdiving? Isn’t that a sport? Can you stop me from cycling up a hill in tour de france? Or is cycling 300km a day a game?

What about tennis? Sport or game? both? can you stop me? nope.

In many board games you can stop your opponent. This defensive element does not indicate sport.

The main difference between sport and game is that sport is institutionalized it has its own official rules. That means sport is considered a workplace and game is not.

Soccer is a game. It is played, and sports are not played; games are. If you play it, then it is a game.

And of course politicians are going to make money off of energy, no matter what party. Republican or Democrats, it makes no difference. McCain=Oil or Al Gore=Alternative Energy.

Both sport and game are used in context to a physical activity. However the main difference between sport and game is in its grammatical usage.

Sport is used as a noun. So we say “X is a sport”.
Game is used as verb clause. So we say “To play a game of X”

As per the above rule, the correct usage is –

    1) Cricket is a sport.
    2) Football is a sport.
    3) Tennis is a sport.

    1) Let’s play a game of cricket.
    2) Let’s play a game of football.
    3) Let’s play a game of tennis.

    Incorrect usage –

    1) Let’s play a sport of cricket.
    2) Let’s play a sport of tennis.
    3) Football is a game.
    4) Cricket is a game.

      “Incorrect usage –

      […]

Football is actually a ball game, so no cigar.

But interesting observations. The original post, however, is horrendous, illogical, muddled, wrong on virtually everything. How could anybody not give that one star. It is complete disinformation.

there is no clear difference among the two. A game is just a more general term than sport. A particular sport has strategies just like in games

Bullshit. Game is based on luck and not sport. Like soccer. It is a game and it based on luck. Swimming is a sport and there is no luck in swimming. But you don’t have be graduated to get it, am I right? 😉

    I am Confused,

    as per you:
A person participating in a sport is called as athlete or a sports person. A person who participates in a game is known as player.

Football is a sport but why we call Football player instead of Football athlete or sports person.

While Game and Sport are used to describe the same context, one is mostly a subset of the other but they are, for the most part, synonymous.

Sport can be considered as an activity performed by an individual requiring a certain level of skill or effort. Even team sports are the combination of individual effort.

Games are in general a competition either against other participants or against the likelihood of a given outcome.

Bowling is widely considered a sport but is often played by a single person. When multiple people compete to get the highest score, that is considered a game. Same with golf except they compete for the lowest score. Rules and mechanics don’t really play a part in defining one or the other.

So someone bowling alone can be considered as engaging in the sport of bowling, multiple people completing in the sport of bowling would be considered to be playing a game.

All things considered sports are defined by the proficiency of the person engaging in the activity. The outcome of that engagement will always be looked at as a competition to others. Competitions are mostly referred to as games.

So while technically you can have a sport without a game it is rare to have a game without a sport.

Now this will inevitably bring us to the conclusion that all endeavors that require skill can be considered a sport.

Is Poker a sport? I would conclude that Poker is a game and Cards is the Sport.

Is playing Video Games a sport? The Sport of video games could be considered ‘AI’ because while the player is trying to win the game by beating the programmed logic of the game, the programmer is trying to make it as difficult/enjoyable as possible.

As with everything there are exceptions. The ‘game’ Candyland, for instance, is seemingly pure luck. If I remember correctly there are no actual decisions to be made but rather just roll dice and see where fate takes you. I wonder if Candyland should even be called a game. So ‘games’ that consist of only luck (the random determination of some device like dice) might not actually be a Game.

Nearly every aspect of the human condition has been made into a competition and hence a sport.

Jeopardy game show … Trivia/Knowledge Sport … Schooling/Careers could be considered the same type of sport. Tests in school can be considered the games.

Hide and Seek … seemingly only a simple game but could be considered to be part of the sport of Avoidance/Detection or Stealth or War.

War … as distasteful as it may be to compare people killing each other to the sport of something like bowling, the premise is basically the same. The Sport of War consists or one or more Games of Battle. Neither strategy nor force individually will dictate the outcome but rather only both applied appropriately will result in the desired outcome. The similarities to all sports cannot be dismissed.

So in conclusion to this entirely too long-winded point of view, I will say that Game is the application of Sport in a competitive framework. Sport is encompassing activity with it given rules. The mechanics of the activity performed have nothing to do with whether it is a Sport or a Game but rather the context in which the Sport is engaged.
