LS vs the GSR

The Acura Integra is a sporty automobile from the Honda Motors car manufacturing company. It is a front-wheel drive car which is sold as a sedan and a hatchback. Honda introduced the Acura line of cars to initiate a diverse brand so it can appeal to up-market consumers. It was launched in 1986 to compete against the Volkswagen Golf GTI, a very popular car at that time.

The LS and GSR are two very different Integras. Both are actually trims of the Integra product line, along with the RS, GS and SE. The LS is very similar to the latter three in terms of performance, as they all come with the same B18B1 non-VTEC engine. It generates 142 hp at 7000 rpm.

The LS trim of the Integra is considered to be the most preferred of all the trims. The abbreviation stands for ‘Luxury Sport’, and was available in coupe and sedan. It was a step above the base model RS (Regular Sport). From the previous model, it added features like a cassette player, alloy wheels, and cruise control. It was followed up by the SE, short for ‘Special Edition’, and is sometimes referred to as the LS-S, as in ‘Luxury Series Special’. A few more features were added, but only in the coupe type. The GS is just the same as the SE.

The GSR (GS-R), which means ‘Grand Sport Racing, is very different from all of the ones mentioned above. This type has all the features and more. Most significantly, it has a B18C1 DOHC VTEC engine, which generates 170 hp at 8000 rpm. It is a truly more powerful beast compared to the other Integras.

Obviously, the LS is a couple of notches lower than the GSR. However, for obvious reasons, the LS is more affordable, and with enough features to satisfy the average consumer. There are LS special editions that almost completely mimic the GSR, feature-wise. Primarily, it was the engine that set them apart.
