Ahi vs Mahi

Ahi and Mahi are delicious fishes that are widely marketed the world over. They have many differences between the two species.

First of all, let us look at Mahi. Mahi, generally called dolphin fish, is found in tropical, temperate and subtropical waters. Also called ray-finned fish, Mahi means very strong in Hawaiian. Mahi is called so as it has the fighting spirit. Though Mahi is called as dolphin fish, it is not at all related to dolphins. When compared to Ahi, it is less tasty. But the best feature of Mahi is that this fish comes with more meat. An average Mahi weighs about ten kg but some Mahi are found to be about 20 kg in weight.

Mahi has a life expectancy of three to four years. It can also be seen that Mahi grows fast and reaches full size bin the first year itself. A carnivores fish, Mahi like a diet of small fishes crustaceans and squids. Mahi comes in a rainbow mix of colors, gold, green and blue colours. Mahi can be distinguished from other fishes by its flat and square off head.
Now let us look at Ahi. This fsh is a type of tuna, which is frequently seen in the Hawaii, southern california and pacific coast of Mexico. Ahi cmes in two types — yellowfin and bigeye tuna. Yellowfin ahi is popular in sport fishing as they are relatively large. Also known as cow tuna, Yellowfin ahi are heavier than Bigeye tuna ahi.
When comparing Ahi with Mahi, it can be seen that the former one is fleshier and has more meat. Though Ahi is known to have an average weight of about 10 kg, it is said that some Ahi comes with more than 90 kg of weight. Ahi has colours ranging from pink to deep red. Larger Ahi have deeper colour when compared to the smaller Ahi.
