Difference Between Tuxedo and Blazer

Tuxedo vs Blazer

Tuxedos and blazers are jackets that are worn for casual and formal functions.

A blazer is just a jacket that is more worn as a casual dress. A blazer is sometimes used as a synonym for sports jacket or boating jacket. A blazer usually resembles a suit with metal buttons and patch pockets.

Tuxedos come in different types and are worn as per the situation. A single-breasted
tuxedo is the less formal type of tuxedo. The double-breasted tuxedo is worn during more formal functions. Then there are daytime tuxedos that are more dark grey in color than black. Anyway, the most important characteristic of a tuxedo is the black color.

Blazers are generally worn with other clothes like open-necked polo shirts or a shirt and tie. Among the blazers, the double breasted, classically-cut navy blue jacket having navy-style buttons is the most popular. These blazers, which are very popular in the United Kingdom and North America, are generally worn during business meetings. Some schools in the Commonwealth countries also have blazers as school uniforms.

A tuxedo generally comes with one button, but now this convention has been broken and the suits come with more buttons. Tuxedos also come with pointed lapels. Some say that the tuxedo was first designed for British King Edward VII. Some others say that American Pierre Lorillard IV (New York City) had designed this dress. Blazers have their origins in the “red blazers” of the Lady Margaret Boat Club which was the rowing club of St. John’s College, Cambridge. It is also said that the blazers got the name from HMS Blazer, the dress worn by the crew of the HMS Blazer.
