The Canon FS21 is an upgraded version of Canon’s earlier model, the FS11. There are only a few significant differences between the two models, as well as quite a few similarities.

Firstly, let’s have a look at their similarities. Both the Canon FS21 and Canon FS11 have a built in memory of 16 GB, which is used for storing videos and still images. They also have an SDHC slot for expansion of the memory. Other similarities include image stabilization features, and the same 2.7′ LCD display. When buying either of these two models, there is the availability of a one year limited warranty, and the products come with a battery pack, power adapter, wrist strap and cables.

As for their differences, the Canon FS21 is slightly lighter in weight, and more compact than the Canon FS11. The weight of the FS21 is only 7.9 ounces. The Canon FS21 has a 1.07 mega pixel CMOS sensor, whereas the Canon FS11 has a 1/6′ CCD sensor. The zoom lenses of the two models also differ. The FS11 features a 37x optical zoom along with 200x digital zoom, compared to the FS21 which offers a 48x advanced zoom, as well as the 37x optical zoom and 200x digital zoom.

Since the Canon FS21 is an upgraded version of the Canon FS11, it has a few extra features. It has a DIGIC DV II image processor which is not available in the earlier model of the FS11, as well as a dual flash memory and quick charge features. There are also three recording modes for the Canon FS21, namely, 3 Mbps, 6 Mbps and 9 Mbps. The standard FS11 version also does not include the Pixela Image Mixer video editing software.

From the above comparison, we can see that the FS21 has a better design and some noteworthy additional features, and, as can be expected, Canon’s FS21 is pricier than the FS11, but only by about $100. The Canon FS11 is available for $499, while the FS21 can be purchased for $599. It is up to you as the consumer to decide whether the extra features of the FS21 are worthy of the higher price.
