Difference Between CBD Oil and CBD Tincture

With the rising popularity in cannabis due to its many health benefits, a lot of products have been developed to suit different needs. Cannabis plants produce thousands of components. However, the most recognized are called cannabinoids. Vape pens, capsules, patches, and tincture drops are some of the different ranges derived from the cannabis sativa plant. With the many choices available, it is sometimes difficult for consumers to decide on the best product for them. CBD is basically a non-psychoactive component of the cannabis sativa plant which helps trigger receptors that aid in the body’s healing mechanism, which is available in different forms such as oils, creams,  isolates, wax, capsules, and tinctures, just to name a few.

What is CBD Oil?

This is pure CBD, which is extracted from cannabis plants and suspended in an inert oil solution such as coconut oil or hemp seed oil. The chemicals in cannabis oils vary, depending on how the extract is made. CBD oil is also more preferred because it does not cause psychoactive effects and is hence attractive for people who want to avoid the high but also want to rip the health benefits.

It is generally used for the purpose of oral ingestion or through application in food. Most manufacturers sell it in a small bottle with a dropper for ease of administration.

CBD oil has some advantages:

  • It is easy to incorporate in some foods such as fat-soluble recipes
  • It can be vaporized
  • The fact that it is suspended in inert oil does not affect the oil itself

It, however, has the following disadvantages

  • It has an unpleasant taste
  • It may not be ideal for mixing in some types of dishes

What is CBD Tincture?

A CBD tincture is a concentration of CBD that is suspended in a small amount of alcohol. It is suspended in alcohol for easy administration into food or for direct consumption while also avoiding the unwanted taste. It is, however, most effective when taken sub-bilingually, by placing drops under the tongue and along the cheeks.

CBD tinctures can however not be vaporized, as it contains alcohol, which is highly combustible.

CBD tincture may be preferred because:

  • It easily mixes with any type of food
  • It is better when taken orally as it does not have any unpleasant taste

It, however, has some limitations:

  • The presence of alcohol discourages consumers who are opposed to the alcohol content in the tincture
  • Due to the alcohol composition, it cannot be vaped.

Similarities between CBD Oil and CBD Tincture

  • Both are products of the Cannabis Sativa plant
  • Both are easy to administer

Differences between CBD Oil and CBD Tincture

  1. Alcohol content in CBD oil and CBD tincture

While CBD oil is not mixed with any alcohol, CBD tincture is a concentration of CBD and small amounts of distilled alcohol.

  1. Method of consumption of CBD oil and CBD tincture

CBD oil can be vaped. CBD tincture, on the other hand, due to the presence of alcohol, cannot be vaped due to the fact that alcohol is combustible.

  1. Incorporation into food

Whereas CBD oil cannot be incorporated in all types of dishes, CBD tincture can be incorporated into any type of dish, because the alcohol disguises the strong flavor of the CBD.

  1. Alcohol sensitivity

While CBD oil can be taken by any person, CBD tincture is not ideal for someone who is alcohol sensitive.

The importance of both CBD oil and CBD tincture cannot be ignored. The problem, however, remains the dilemma in choosing which one is ideal for each person. A person should always consider the best method based on whether one intends to incorporate with meals, ability to withstand any unpleasant taste, alcohol sensitivity and the mode in which a person tends to administer the CBD.
