Album vs Mix Tape

Album and Mix tape are both used in the music world. Though the two have the same functions, they have many differences. Here let us look at some of the differences between Album and Mix tape.

Album can be called original and are considered to be more official. On the other hand, Mix Tape includes remixes, songs and freestyles over another rapper’s beat.

Unlike the Album that contains all original works, a DJ or a compiler usually makes the Mix Tape. The DJ combines new beats to produce a different music or sound, The Mix tapes is particularly for dance music.

A mix tape usually reflects the musical tastes of the compiler rather than the original artist. The Mix tape contains a mixture of songs that may not be linked by theme or mood but only tailored according the whims of the compiler.

Mix tapes can be bought from the streets whereas albums can be only bought from recognised music stores. In comparing the price, the Album costs more than the Mix tape.

Another difference that can be seen is that the Mix tape is mainly used for promotion of some piece of work whereas Album shoots out from the promotion.

In an album, the works are very much structured whereas it is not like that in Album and Mix tape.

While looking at the history, the mix tapes could be traced from the 1960s. They became very popular in the 1980s. It was after the home made ones that the mix tapes became so popular in the 1980s. The popularity is also linked with the hip hop world, where the DJs mixed songs for some rap. Albums were the first to be produced.
