Difference Between PUBG and Fortnite

Both PUBG and Fortnite are two of the most iconic and widely recognized Battle Royale games of all time that still make people go crazy and nostalgic. Fortnite vs. PUBG is definitely the biggest scrap in gaming right now. PUBG was the most-watched battle royale title on Twitch before Fortnite took the high ground. But which one is better – PUBG or Fortnite? Let’s take a look.

All about PUBG

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, commonly known as PUBG, is one of the most popular Battle Royale combat games in the world. Developed and Published by PUBG Corporation, PUBG is wildly successful game with a professional league that’s organized by its publisher and the game owes much of its popularity to its mobile client, PUBG Mobile. PUBG Mobile is a mobile version of its original game for PC and Xbox One, ready to be played on the go. The basic premise of the game is to survive. 100 players are dropped in, but only one will be left standing. It is available in PS4, Xbox One, Windows, MacOS and Android devices.

Famous Fortnite

Epic Games’ Fortnite is undoubtedly one of the most popular free-to-play Battle Royale games of all time, with hundreds of millions of registered users worldwide across a variety of platforms. The Battle Royale multiplayer mode is a freemium game, which means it does not cost you a dime to download and play the game. Very few games have made a global sensation in the way Fortnite did. Originally announced in 2011, the original single player mode of the game didn’t garner enough attention. The Battle Royale mode wasn’t released until 2017, but by the end of the first day itself, it had crossed 1 million users. After a month, 17 million players have already registered, and the numbers have reached a whopping 100 million at the end of the year.

Difference between PUBG and Fortnite

Gameplay

 – PUBG is one of the most popular battle royale combat games in the world which follows the similar ‘survival of the fittest’ mantra just like other battle royale games such as Minecraft, Fortnite. PUBG has a pretty straightforward gameplay with one basic premise; fight your enemies off till you’re the last one standing. It puts more emphasis on gun mechanics with less focus on exploration, looting, etc.

Fortnite is a fast-paced game with no conventional narrative, no plot and no premise. Fortnite is structured much like the battle to the death scene similar to PUBG, but more action-packed. The world’s population is overrun by zombies and your job is to survive by gathering supplies, building a shelter, and devising strategies in order to survive the apocalypse. Its gun battle mechanics and exploration scene is more transparent; in fact, building and exploring is one of the fundamental elements of its gameplay.

Graphics

 – The graphics of PUBG are not as promising as what is demanding about the game, but it’s as good as you can get. The game has a military inspired look layered on top of a classical example of a survivalist shooter game much deeper than it looks. The graphics are more realistic and life-like in the mobile version of PUBG. The characters, weapons, and maps look more alluring than Fortnite’s, providing a more visual appeal to it.

Fortnite, on the other hand, looks more cartoonish than its rival and everything looks so bright and colorful as if the whole scene was inspired from a Dreamworks movie. The weapons, characters look flimsy, but some weapons are based on original weapons and that’s that. The animated characters and the colorful world basically take all the charm away from the whole battle royale scene. Fortnite mobile is closer to the original running on a small screen.

Game Modes

 – There are a variety of game modes available to choose from– from the Solo (TPP or FPP) to Duo, Squad, or 1-Man-Squad gameplay modes. The Solo mode is the classic game mode which pits you against up to 99 other players; Duo mode allows you to team up with one other player; and the Squad mode allows you to team up with up to four players in groupd, fighting off enemies as a team. Then there’s the Training Mode which helps you learn and practice basic combat techniques in PUBG.

Fortnite uses the same map as its PC version, which keeps on changing with every season. There are three game options to choose from – Save the World, Battle Royale, and Creative. Battle Royale is the most popular game option and has a selection of regular game modes – Solos, Duos and Squads – and a selection of limited time modes (LTMs). The three game modes are basically the same as the PUBG, but the limited time sub game mode can be played in many ways, such as 50v50, Solid Gold, Blitz and Playground.

Crossplay

 – PUBG is available in PS4, Xbox One, Windows, MacOS and Android. PUBG Mobile is basically the mobile version of the original PUBG game for PC and Xbox One, ready to be played on the go. You along with 99 others are dropped in, but only one will be left standing. However, PUBG does not support cross-platform play on any of the platforms. PUBG is platform-dependent meaning players must be on the same platform to be able to compete with each other.

Fortnite is available on all major platforms including Macintosh and Nintendo Switch, so you can play Fortnite on just any platform you want. In addition, Fortnite also supports cross-platform play which allows you to play with players on most other platforms. So if a PS4 player is in a party with a friend on Xbox One, they can play together, as long as they have a registered Epic Games account. Fortnite is the game where players across all platforms could gather.

PUBG vs. Fortnite: Comparison Chart

Summary

Both PUBG and Fortnite are two of the biggest battle royale games out there based on the similar ‘survival of the fittest’ mantra. However, the Battle Royale mode of Fortnite is free to play, whereas PUBG is a retail game. This means you can install Fortnite without committing to buy anything. Fortnite has been around for a while now and it continues to innovate with its different seasons. Cross-platform support is probably one of the biggest selling points of Fortnite, something PUBG lacks. However, PUBG in a very less time, has become one of the most popular combat games in the world. PUBG is more realistic and the gameplay is more intense and stressful with matches that last longer than usual.
