Difference Between Shopify and Wix

Until a few years ago, if you wanted to build a website of your own, you’d have to learn web design. Creating a website is no easy task; you need to be knowledgeable and skilled enough to build a site from scratch, not to mention, build something that not only looks good but appeals to the users. Your website is the face of your business, or in the case of a personal website, an identity. Fortunately, there are many tools out there that allow you to create websites from pre-built templates. Shopify and Wix are two such great website builders that are on every ecommerce seller’s checklist. But which one’s better?

What is Shopify?

Shopify is a popular ecommerce platform that allows individuals and established businesses to build, manage and control their own online store where they can sell whatever they like to sell. Shopify is known for its unmatched ecommerce features that cover almost every aspect of the sales process, including inventory management, payment gateways, shopping carts, point of sale systems, third-party integrations, and so on. It hosts your online marketplace, allowing you to easily sell anything, from books to clothes, furniture, phone accessories, home décor, batteries, headphones, hardware, and much more. Shopify is an all-in-one ecommerce solution for businesses looking to sell online.

What is Wix?

Wix is yet another big name in the ecommerce space that allows you to create professional websites. Wix is an Israel-based web development service and one of the best all-around ecommerce platforms that gives you total creative freedom online. Like Shopify, Wix helps you create your own online store with hundreds of designer-made templates, providing you with all the necessary tools and services you need to sell online and in-store. With unparalleled design capabilities and an easy-to-use drag-and-drop interface, Wix makes building a website completely hassle free, without getting into any complex coding or design. Although, initially designed for creating websites, Wix had added ecommerce platform features recently to expand its portfolio of offerings.

Difference between Shopify and Wix

Platform of Shopify and Wix

 – Both are great platforms that check all the boxes on an ecommerce seller’s checklist as both are all-in-one solutions. However, Shopify is a full-fledged ecommerce platform that’s specially designed for ecommerce and covers almost every aspect of the sales process. The basic idea of Shopify is the ability to list and sell products online. Wix, on the other hand, is originally positioned as a website building platform rather than an online marketplace platform.

Ecommerce Features

– Although, Wix was originally designed for creating professional looking websites, several ecommerce features has been added recently into the platform for added functionalities, such as inventory management, secure checkout, and advanced marketing tools. Shopify has always been the most trusted tool designed to build online stores. Dropshipping is possible with both the platforms, but Shopify gives you more options. Plus Shopify has multiple payment gateways, shopping carts and third party integrations, and AI features to make your online experience better.

Pricing

 – Basically, all the Wix ecommerce plans will get you unlimited staff accounts, bandwidth, and full features. Wix can be used for free but you won’t be able to use a professional domain name. Wix’s pricing structure is divided into a total of eight plans, starting from as low as $14 a month (for the annual subscription). You can create your own online store with as low as $23 per month. The closest equivalent to the entry Wix ecommerce plan from Shopify is Shopify Basic, which, at $29 per month, is the most affordable option to sell unlimited digital or physical products.

Themes & Templates

– Since Shopify is strictly geared towards ecommerce solutions, the themes are all built to cater to your ecommerce needs and they are fully customized themes, which gives you total control over how you want to design your online store to your liking. You can also tweak the themes, only if you know your way around HTML and CSS. Wix also provides a plethora or free and paid ecommerce templates, all of which look modern and stylish, but you can’t customize them with HTML or CSS. Compared to hundreds of pre-designed templates on Shopify, you only have around 60 in Wix.

Shopify vs. Wix: Comparison Chart

Summary

So, Shopify clearly packs a lot of punches when it comes to its ecommerce offerings as it offers a ton of options to help you build, maintain and grow your online store. This is because all the features are specially designed to improve your experience and help you become a successful online seller. Wix, on the other hand, may not have the looks and skills of Shopify, but it does hold its own when it comes to ecommerce. For one, Wix is more affordable, easy to use, so it’s highly recommended for smaller online stores looking to make their mark.

Is Shopify better than Wix?

Shopify definitely packs a lot of features and capabilities when it comes to ecommerce, such as full customized themes, professionally designed templates, third party integrations and add-ons, diverse product catalogue, and more. Wix does have some pretty decent features under its sleeves, such as multilingual capabilities, ease of use, affordability, and so on. So, it comes down to your needs.

Can WIX use Shopify?

There is no integration between the two services as both are very different platforms. Wix is an easy to use drag and drop website that helps you create professional websites, like Shopify.

Is Wix a competitor to Shopify?

Shopify is clearly the leader in the website building business, especially when it comes to building online stores. But, Wix is not far behind in the competition and it surely checks all the things in an ecommerce seller’s checklist. Although, not all Wix users sell stuffs online, the platform does provide some decent ecommerce features and tools to compete with Shopify.

Is there anything better than Shopify?

Shopify is not the only player in the website building business. Other popular names include BigCommerce, WooCommerce, LemonStand, Volusion, Squarespace, Bluehost, Opencart, etc.

Is Shopify really worth?

Shopify is an all-in-one ecommerce solution that provides users with many ecommerce features and tools to cover every little aspect of the online selling business, from inventory management and shopping cart to payment services and point of sale systems. Plus, Shopify has everything you need to successfully create and grow your online store. So, it’s definitely worth it.
