BDO vs PDC
The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) and the British Darts Organisation (BDO) are two darts organizations.
Here are some of the differences between the BDO and the PDC. First of all, let us discuss their formation. The British Darts Organisation was the first darts organization to be formed. It was formed by Olly Croft in 1973.
The Professional Darts Corporation was formed many years later after a split in the BDO. There is a short history to the formation of the BDO. In the 1980′s, professional darts lost most of its television coverage. Some of the players felt that the BDO was not doing anything for reviving the television coverage and, therefore, they formed their own darts organization, the World Darts Council, in 1992. Later the council was renamed as the Professional Darts Corporation, or PDC. The BDO sets the rules and regulations that govern the game of darts, and the PDC has also recognized the BDO.
In regards to the tournaments and players, the Professional Darts Corporation is considered to be more glamorous than the British Darts Organisation. One can also see that the PDC has better players than the BDO. Moreover, the players of the PDC are better paid than the players of the BDO. It is also said that the competitions and tournaments of the PDC are far better than the BDO.
The PDC and the BDO have different tournaments. Ladbrokes.com is part of the World Championship, Blue Square, U.K. Open, Las Vegas Desert Classic, Stan James World Matchplay, Sky Poker, World Grand Prix, Premier League Darts, U.S. Open, and the Grand Slam of Darts are some of the premier tournaments held by the Professional Darts Corporation. The BDO also conducts world premiers which include: Lakeside World Darts Professional Championship, Winmau World Masters, Topic International Darts League, and the Bullit World Darts Trophy.
Unlike the BDO, the PDC has more coverage. While the PDC is covered through the general entertainment BBC Two channel, the Sky channel covers the PDC. While the BBC only shows selected BDO matches, the Sky shows the entire range of PDC matches.

I really liked the B.D.O when it first started.
Since the P.D.C started then they do get some fantastic players.

I began playing darts in 1961 and finished in 2000 through ill-health. When the PDC was formed, talk among many of the county and super league players was that the ‘top’ stars were concerned about the brilliant youngsters coming through. Their cash was reducing anyway, so to earn top dollar for a few more years, many of the top BDO 32 went of to form their own organisation.
Then, of course, the PDC became THE place to be and the BDO became a simple stepping stone.

I’m pleased – at last – to understand the main differences between the BDO and PDC Organisations. I’m a relatively “newcomer” to Televised Darts but enjoy it very much. Thank Yoi.
